Sometimes when I see the search results I double take back to the phrase I put in wondering how the two are tenuously linked! It should have been apparent I was not shopping nor wanting to put the string into another search engine nor want an Amazon book that is not related either! The search 'algorithm' certainly doesn't know what was in my mind as it has one of its own.

I usually pay substantially more on my UK flights, flying Biz Class. I have also paid somewhat more on a shorter flight to go from Swampy rather than DMG for reasons you suggest above. As to Pattaya Airport (UTP), Air Asia also fly there directly from mainland China, so there is a chance of getting behind a few hundred of them there too. Have to look what arrives about the same time as Qatar do.

I had been paying 1200 from Swampy and I believe the other way was 1000, but I was more inclined to drive myself that direction. That was before the extended motorway tolls came in. I thought that was pretty standard although years ago I used the mafia and they were always yellow/green cabs trying to get a fare back to Bangkok and were cheap but came with arguments many times.

The taxi companies may have put their prices up to and from Swampy as the motorway stretch from Chonburi to Pattaya is now also toll road. UTP isn't bad for me as I can get onto Hwy 36, then switch to 331 which pops out on Sukhumvit close to UTP. Although I am also not far from Hwy 7 either. I agree using Sukhumvit from Sattahip to Pattaya is a pretty horrible drive!

Some journey times come in at 14.30 from LHR, longest coming up was 15.30, so I guess you are booking through an agent not direct with the airline.Cheaper tickets will likely give you a longer wait. The flight Doha to UTP does not stop in Bangkok, so I can only believe some search engines are coming up with a bus option. There aren't any flights from BKK to UTP. (Although some of the minibus drivers come pretty close.)

I plan my trips around 'safe' times to try and get to Manchester Airport. The M60 is a permanent disaster but rush hours are walking speed and I find it just all too frustrating. So mid-afternoon flights are my favourite (The 2pm Emirates A380). . It also means the sun is far enough over the yardarm somewhere for a beer before take-off. It also usually means a good time to arrive in Bangkok and get out of the city again avoiding a rush hour.
