Struggled to get back out of town myself yesterday in the afternoon, a lot of traffic seemed to be coming into town. I can see the difference in 'driving styles' when all these guys come into town from Bangkok, they seem to go out of their way to block the usual channels to the front for the bikes. I need to go into the Naklua area today and hope some aren't using that as an alternate route. We missed all this last year I think.........another reason not to go into town...... I worry about these drunked up kids who seem to feel a need to be armed.

One walked past me in Tesco yesterday and I swear the vegetables were wilting as he passed.

I am not MM of course but we have certainly rejected 'voice only' before. Well I mean they were never 'in' were they?

I have Sophon and it ain't great. Not having Thipmanee as well it is hard to compare..... it is a bit of 'the devil you know....' The English Film channels are forever deteriorating, into a long run of adverts mainly for condo buildings. The local news reports seem to be deteriorating too, with out of date fuel/exchange rates and repeated news reports that are the same as the previous night. Whoever manages these channel must be out to the pub as sometimes the films being played are bad copies, jump around and now and again you get the director's commentary rather than the correct audio track, plus a film might suddenly stop in the middle and be replaced by adverts. But that is to do with the channels available not the carrier. Sophon has a moderate picture quality and generally they are quick to come out and fix problems, plus I got 2 free months last year. The only thing that would make me switch would be if I could get regular (live) UK Premiership football, but that isn't going to happen for 3000 baht/year. True satellite costs too much for the amount of TV I watch... mainly news programmes. It is tuned to the Thai main channels (3, 5 , 7) more , they all carry those. As to the number of channels (65 I think), who cares, when am I going to need Russian TV or want to watch guys going round and round the holy Kasbah or a group of Sikhs playing strange instruments making an infernal racket.

Most certainly unattractive. Looks like someone with leprosy sneezed on you.

28,000 per month isn't so bad.....but you have to pony up 56k including the deposit. Deposits make me nervous in Thailand.

If it stops some-place it ain't direct, it is via..... so it is up to me if I accept the lie presented to me. I only hope it is apparent.

Yeah something odd...I made a post and it came back with all this gobbledygook at the bottom, but when refreshed looks okay. Really, well you learn something every day. I am guessing it is only 1 stop otherwise the bus from Chiangmai could be deemed direct as you sit wondering why you are sat in Phetchaburi bus station. It is a slightly devious use of Engish as I never felt the Singapore flight from Manchester was 'direct' with a stop in Delhi or now Germany.

As I arrived at The Mercure for The Expats Club meeting (10am), the sound of a pile driver from the back area greeted me. Damned heathens, it was a Sunday. -
No they aren't, I couldn't even get my head into mine, and no it isn't especially big!

I must admit I have retained a negative image of PMH due to the fact it was often on TV where young Thai men had been 'rushed to' after being shot, boozed up in some Thai pub...mostly they seemed to die and I could see a lack of hygienic procedures there... nurses without face-masks and friends of the injured all milling around wailing. They came to the Expats Club (Dad's Army as you call it) and did a presentation which changed my mind... a bit. BPH could do with some competition to get their pricing practices in order.

I found this comment from July 2011 but the situation may have changed. At Suvarnabhumi airport, Thai Airways operates no less than seven lounges and a separate spa, none of them in the international arrivals area. With the exception of one lounge, in the domestic concourse, all the other lounges and the spa are in the international departures area, which is inaccessible unless you are connecting to another international flight from Bangkok on the same day. Consequently, premium passengers arriving in Bangkok on Thai are denied this small bit of relaxation and comfort. A rude and unhelpful Airports of Thailand staff, only further degrades an arriving passenger's euphoria after a flight with good on-board service. I have no idea what facilities there are at the re-opened Don Muang, other than there was a hotel opposite, Amari offering overpriced, short duration rooms for travellers. Most guys arriving in Bangkok are rushing into town... and it is perhaps why the toilets in arrivals contain people stripped to the waist cleaning themselves up.

I agree... but now realise what we are discussing and that I have seen them many times, often facial.Although I am having to keep my imagination in-check regarding the posted pic!

Dare we say it, the old cliche, if Thai are losing money, they will be putting up the prices.
-
Generally the boxes require 2 keys, their master and one you retain. If you lose yours there is a hefty charge as they claim they have to drill the lock out. if you are fortunate and the lock boxes have a second box within, where a padlock can be applied then even better. Personally I only feel good with a safe in the room these days and even then I am checking how securely it is fixed.

Well I meant if they could make it rain it would put the fires out.... no fire would have survived here in Pattaya with the downpour we just had. -
