  1. You mean the Tropical New Honorary Consul Berts
  2. Mystic River
  3. Is that the Pie Shop place that used to be owned by a Scotsman and an Italian? Although it sounds further off Nerm Plab Wan than I recall.
  4. Rosy's is not too great I am sorry to say. Okay for your bog standard pub grub, pie and chips, etc, but very disappointed last time I had roast dinner there.
  5. I don't suppose they are... as to the Multinationals uprooting and moving, it will all take time, and the minimum wage in Thailand is still a lot less than many other countries. Try getting someone in France to work 10 hours in a day, never mind for the Thai money. I think it is about 350 baht/hour in France, relative to 300 baht per day in Thailand.
  6. Well the fact is, their currency seems to be holding one-for-one to the baht pretty well.It has managed to appreciate against the US$ which I believe is what most of them have in their pockets when they come here...feel good factor there for them.
  7. Unforgiven
  8. It wouldn't appear to be what is happening though. Most of the tourists appear to be Russian and not the big spending sector.
  9. Yes, if I have a hankering for an overpriced, under performing bike, with a defective muffler I shall consider one!
  10. Hmm.... one has to consider the possibility of further weakening of some currencies, or the baht strengthening further.I think the £ might fall a bit more, and the USA looks to be applying further 'quantitative easing'. I have been looking at a Biz Class flight with Emirates and it would be £800 cheaper if I was buying it in the UK!
  11. Toad in the hole........or a head cheese sandwich.
  12. Wow,, the end of a 'legend'.... I have had quite a few of those greasy breakfasts watching 'Only Fools and Horses'...a hangover clouding my judgement, served up by the most sour faced waitress in town. Did one of them kill the other at last!
  13. It just appears to be a name used for a specific recipe for pickled cucumbers, I must say I had not heard of it before and was feeling queasy thinking of pickles in bread and butter pudding. More sugar and sliced so that they fit well on a sandwich......
  14. If you are travelling Biz Class, you should get one. I don't believe it is relevant whether it is an award ticket or not, similarly you get access to the lounges.
  15. No, Walking St is the main, famous tourist area. Soi 6, I would say infamous.
  16. Like this...
  17. Every Which Way But Loose.........
  18. I don't recall that I have..... I usually stayed central or South Pattaya, and not so far away from the beach. Back then there wasn't much going on at the North End.
  19. It is one of those words that will be with me forever. On a mat up here.......no, on a rug down there! Was told that some-place and it stuck!
  20. Yes of course I could..... for me it wasn't expensive, a good deal. But for you it is overpriced, as you admitted, and for some reason Ib put you in the poor-boy rooms.
  21. National Lampoons Vacation
  22. Well they have school holidays at about the same time.I believe the UK taxes are mainly on departure and do depend on your final destination. Problem is the risk, the budget carriers won't give a shit if they make you miss an onward connection. (Lyin Air and FlymayBe) You will likely have to go through immigration and collect your luggage too.
  23. Caddyshack 2 (24hr)
  24. You need a place like the Residence Garden or Nova Park. Pity about it being November (high season already). If you pay for the full month the Nova Park says 33,000 baht but check if that includes electricity and cleaning.
  25. Well as I said there was a double mattress on there and I personally didn't have that issue... perhaps they fastened the legs together with cable ties.I do recall the vile mustard coloured blankets they used before investing in nice bedspreads, and double beds were normal for me, as a regular guest who could afford the place. Good hotel, 2 rooms, 2 ACs, 2 TVs, 2 pools, all for the price a little more than those one-room places.
