Really, well you learn something every day. I am guessing it is only 1 stop otherwise the bus from Chiangmai could be deemed direct as you sit wondering why you are sat in Phetchaburi bus station. It is a slightly devious use of Engish as I never felt the Singapore flight from Manchester was 'direct' with a stop in Delhi or now Germany.

I must admit I have retained a negative image of PMH due to the fact it was often on TV where young Thai men had been 'rushed to' after being shot, boozed up in some Thai pub...mostly they seemed to die and I could see a lack of hygienic procedures there... nurses without face-masks and friends of the injured all milling around wailing. They came to the Expats Club (Dad's Army as you call it) and did a presentation which changed my mind... a bit. BPH could do with some competition to get their pricing practices in order.

I found this comment from July 2011 but the situation may have changed. At Suvarnabhumi airport, Thai Airways operates no less than seven lounges and a separate spa, none of them in the international arrivals area. With the exception of one lounge, in the domestic concourse, all the other lounges and the spa are in the international departures area, which is inaccessible unless you are connecting to another international flight from Bangkok on the same day. Consequently, premium passengers arriving in Bangkok on Thai are denied this small bit of relaxation and comfort. A rude and unhelpful Airports of Thailand staff, only further degrades an arriving passenger's euphoria after a flight with good on-board service. I have no idea what facilities there are at the re-opened Don Muang, other than there was a hotel opposite, Amari offering overpriced, short duration rooms for travellers. Most guys arriving in Bangkok are rushing into town... and it is perhaps why the toilets in arrivals contain people stripped to the waist cleaning themselves up.

Dare we say it, the old cliche, if Thai are losing money, they will be putting up the prices.

Generally the boxes require 2 keys, their master and one you retain. If you lose yours there is a hefty charge as they claim they have to drill the lock out. if you are fortunate and the lock boxes have a second box within, where a padlock can be applied then even better. Personally I only feel good with a safe in the room these days and even then I am checking how securely it is fixed.

Are you looking for a condo or serviced apt? For that length of time I wouldn't be interested in a studio condo (bedsit), and would like a 1 bedroom place. Nor would I want to be surrounded by beer bars and GGBs. There are 3 or 4 places around Jamesons that might fit the bill. Nova Park or Leelawadee on the corner. That is if they haven't been taken over by Russians.

It was some months ago and I was talking to an British guy who claimed he had got a visa, while already here, that allowed him a long stay. He had arrived with a 30 day stamp. I did a bit of enquiry and was told he could have obtained a medical visa, allowing a renewable 90 day stay. He used an agency and they handled it. Here it is discussed on Thai Visa...
