Typical monies paid, upon signing a lease in Pattaya
jacko replied to Wannabe's topic in Expat Issues
it might depend how much notice you were required to give according to the lease/contract.Apparently there is a nefarious British guy who rents out and won't return all your deposit. -
Perhaps had I took employment at a primary school?

Then you need to supply some information. There are many on this forum who used to prop up a bar in Pattaya 20 or more years ago. My hand goes up.13/3 is pattayaland 1. Lewinskis is up there and does golf. On the Beach Rd I recall a popular Oz bar just after 13/3, now Baywatch restaurant I think.

I understand that one might have a good bit of fun prior... but the ultimate function of a room is a place to sleep it off. Now Imagine when you drop off, mouth agape, snoring gently, a cockroach starts to crawl over the pillow towards you, attracted by the minty sugary aroma of toothpaste, or the kebab you didn't quite brush out, or som-tam breath. Sleep well.

I have always had a slight aversion to using 'wild' animals to entertain people. I can live with performing dogs and useful things like sheep herding. There is a sense of satisfaction when something like this happens, or the aligator clamps down on the guys head. Perhaps why we watch in the first place.

I was also asked for a security deposit.......on top of 2 months rent up front. Likely because I wanted a short lease of 6 months. I got the impression this was a slight afterthought and negotiated it down, otherwise a substantial amount was involved on signing the lease. Negotiation is always possible, had I realised I would actually stay longer than I thought, or had my wits about me I would have negotiated the rent down rather than the deposit, as this would have reduced initial payment too and benefited in the longer term. Whether the owner has insurance or you need to take it out is important... I never did get all my deposit back. -
You might just be right there. But now I have house guests! Not the type to come maul with me though.

Sorry, I don't read minds so well. Thanks for helping out.USD and Euro TC's are available in the UK. Lovedog seems to suggest to the OP to encash a $100 TC on arrival. I recommend a £100 one. Better not to confuse the issue with mention of $US.

Don't talk daft....... why on earth would he want to get $100 TCs.He would have to pay commission to change currency....twice. Yes they are available but normally for people going to the USA.

You have been a member for a few months reading and yet still changed £500 into baht in the UK?Sorry but you would have done better changing that on arrival. There is also a 150 baht surcharge here for using a foreign ATM card on top of what your UK bank charges... so travellers cheques isn't a bad idea, in £. Cash is a worry, your Bangkok hotel may not have an in room safe.

Are you actually being serious? Do a Google search and take a look, you will get a lot of hits!

Let me think about this.....Two restaurants with equally appalling food at similar prices. One has a TV blaring out a Thai soap where melodramatic poor acting and squawking females hurts the ears. The other is playing a timeless classic comedy that I can still enjoy. No I went there to eat because I was hungry, and fancied a greasy breakfast to settle my head and stomach... I didn't say to myself 'I am not hungry but fancy watching an episode of 'Fools and Horses''

You see that laissez faire attitude is costing you dearly in life! -
It is a crazy bustling centre comprising of restaurants, gogo bars, beer bars and discos. Very much a nightime place.Soi 6 is more popular in the afternoons and early evenings and comprises of mostly short time places and some good bars and pubs. Visit both....
