Death of a Shopping Mall: A Rant
jacko replied to MeGoDanceNow's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
So high season is officially over? The Expats can emerge, don a baggy shirt and flip flops and start bargain hunting again? -
That's this thread well fucked! I thought it was about foods not feuds.

Death of a Shopping Mall: A Rant
jacko replied to MeGoDanceNow's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Walking around in Pattaya is getting hard with the ever increasing traffic. The over utilisation of places with passing trade as display area for sellers forces you into the paths of coaches the size of battleships. I also feel nervous walking down say Soi 7 or 8 as I know motorcycles are whizzing up behind me and I feel they derive great pleasure from buzzing me. One of the great plusses for me was when they finished the beach side of beach rd, and suddenly there was this really pleasant, shaded by coconut trees, 'avenue' to walk down, no motorcycles or hawkers, unlike the slow progress likely across the street. You could get one foot infront of the other, move along with the Beer Garden and TV screen your target ahead, the sea lapping to your right. You can't sit on Soi LK Metro without hawkers bugging you either, like the old days of the beer bars. Market stalls with 3 ft between them and NO way of bypass is hopelss, like the odd number side of Sukhumvit in Bangkok, or the Patpong market. Is this really what the tourists from Russia and India fly 1000s of miles for? -
Not sure about that... the dongles often have other stuff in there that loads software and memory etc etc and might well not work with a different networks SIM. Get one here.... or you can just plug your mobile into the laptop and get onto the internet that way. Prepaid air4time is the cheapest way otherwise it costs 1 baht/minute.

Yeah, that is how it worked for me. My attempts to send out MMS from Thailand have always failed, despite having supposedly downloaded the correct settings. I gave up. -
Death of a Shopping Mall: A Rant

Good rant LDK an spot on. I have been decrying this 'let's please the tourists with another market' policy for a while. As I walked about getting nowhere fast on NYE trying to get to a GGB, being impeded by gawping shoppers, I pondered that Pattaya is heading from Monger Central to Market hall. You can't enjoy a walk down the beach rd, you have to step into the gutter in front of TOPS, more of Carrefour carpark vanishes, the aisles get narrower in the mall. They all sell the same crap and are not worthy of looking. Pattaya City planning really is choking the place down. -
You can do all that and buy prepaid GPRS/Edge on say 1-2-Call... no need for 2 phones/SIMS as you just use the regular SIM.I just checked 30 hours 99 baht, 60 hrs 199 baht, 100 hrs 350. Going via their phone prompting is onerous though. Easy to set up both with my Samsung and Sony/Eric suites.

What a crock......Firstly pulling out infront of motorcycles is purely the fault of the bus/ truck driver. If trucks/ busses have so many blind spots they are an unsafe vehicles and should not be on the road. Motorcycles do not like to hide at all.... in fact it is likely they would prefer to be seen, by these blind truck drivers. We are talking Thailand here and I reiterate, these bus/coach truck drivers give motorcycles little regard as they drive down little sois barely larger than their vehicle, and cross junctions without slowing or stopping. They drive on roads which are unsuitable and block junctions by occupying all lanes. I ride a motorcycle and am not under any misconception. I am the one who will be killed by the truck, the only injury a truck driver in LOS might sustain could be a twisted ankle as he runs away!

Bali Hai was absolutely murder....... too many people. The stupidity of it all was to pemit the erection of stalls and allow vendors to park anyplace thereby creating dangerous bottlenecks... you know like the ones where people can get panicky and crushed. It took 45 minutes to get from Soi 15 to the pier, and 30 to come back after the display.. not so good this year. I saw tempers frayed ... note to rude Russians, shouting in Russian at Thais serves little purpose...... Similar attitudes like those you see in Songkran whereby some celebration is supposedly a permission to assault, a big fight started when some Brit brat sprayed string-foam 3 inches from the face of a big Indian guy... who gave him a superb right hook. Then mates all got involved... Happy New Year! I wish I had gone the other way, but the stalls on beach rd also made progress difficult when I came that way earlier. I heard that Wong Amat/ Naklua were easier and the view good. Next year, if crowd control is not considered more, someone could die. I also wondered if the pier was built to be loaded like that!

The Cafe New Orleans and Tequila Reef may suit you better. The Great American Rib Co.... Lunchtime, can't beat a Subway 1 footer. Not much of a McMuck/BK/ or KFC fan but variety is the spice of life.....

I fancied a good breakfast on NY Day, so rode over to the Canterbury Tales, it was after 10.30am . There were a couple of girls behind the counter but they weren't interested in doing breakfast for me. Went nearby to Crazy Daves, he still does the 75 baht cheap breakfast (bacon, a sausage, a few beans, 2 near raw eggs and a slice of fried bread, toast, jam tea/coffee/OJ). While I can't complain about the price, the snotty eggs, sour-faced staff, greasy plate, smokers nearby and people wandering about shirtless made it 'tacky'. As I left Canterbury Tales were operational.

I wonder why bother going to Bangkok, if you plan on getting up so early. Or perhaps you never went to bed!

Old Cherry Bar Girl Offering Airport Taxi Service
jacko replied to MC_Ldop's topic in Transport in Thailand
That is hardly comparable to offering a taxi service is it now? There has been numerous discussions regarding legal/illegal insured or not taxi services and that is likely the point.
