  1. There was a presentationn at the Expats Club a few weeks ago. Mainly they were hyping MRI scans, but CAT was also mentioned as available. The hospital is the Phyathai in Sri Racha, about 20km North of Pattaya. I feel they will compete on price with the Bangkok Pattaya. Memory not much use here, but there is a web site...
  2. No, it meant I was after security and was entering passport/ immigration checks. As other passengers are coming through security checks, you need to pick up your belongings and sort of move out of the way instead of standing there at the end of the belt dressing. More intelligent behaviour is expected of one in Fast Track. The immigration check is nearby and one's hands are occupied. I only have the two. Thankfully, now at Bangkok, you only have to go through a single security check. The moving walkway you are confusing is likely the belt you are supposed to put your bag and belt on. No wonder the security for economy class is slow.
  3. Who is the guy in the pic..... it appears we have a football team in common!
  4. There won't be any room left for a bed at this rate....
  5. Go and read the post again. I commented sardonically that it was awkward getting my passport out while holding my belt and pants up!No, a passenger will use only 1 of the three security check areas. The same way as one would only use 1 of the 27 immigration officials. Prior to the change, I always had to wait for more than 2 travelers in the security line, the checks at the entrance to the gate wings was always backed up, but late night (my regular departure time is 8pm-0100am), it is busy with long haul Western departures. Accepted that the lower level was often less crowded.... but it took a few trips for me to figure that out too. It depended on which airline lounge I came out of. That is another reason for centralising security, having to have dual operations (for both levels), is inefficient.
  6. There has been quite a switch of styles between these 3 locations. I would say now it is more open/ Thai/ coach party style now. But they have maintained a high standard of food.
  7. If you fly BA, that would only suit Villayouth!
  8. Yes, thank you, I know what date I flew out of Bangkok.I took my belt off just for the fun of it. How would I know the process if I had not experienced it... are you are just being pedantic? If you did not read my posts, or refresh your memory of them, prior to commenting on them to Joe, saying that they are not entirely correct, well I think there is little point discussing anything with you. The security check(s) was much improved for me, a quick one prior to immigration. The usual passport/ boarding card one at the gate, but no further strip and search. Also security has improved as per the posts for laffniv, 2 slices short and stinky, those posts were Oct 13th in case you need to refresh your memory.
  9. I said in this thread that fast track security was now located prior to immigration...here...I elected not to mention my class of travel then. I posted that from the lounge........after having experienced it. I would not have posted if I had not experienced it for myself. I am sorry that was not clear enough for you. The process at Bangkok has changed from 'a couple times in the past'....that is the point of the whole thread. For Fast Track and regular, it has changed.
  10. Be aware you will have a 7 hour time difference from Sunday....
  11. Pay attention Emil, I flew Business Class and said I went through Fast Track!Mentioned in this very thread. I was checked prior to passport control.
  12. Straight forward job.... where are you staying?Central Pattaya,. Art of Smile, 2nd Rd, opposite Bangkok bank, handy for Soi 6!
  13. Yes over 13 hours, not 12... a little longer than flying times via Mumbai. That was my point, you didn't really dispute or contradict that. I thought Gulf normally went via Bahrain, but wouldn't Muscat be more of a negative? Last time I went there it was a horrible little airport. Some years ago though. We often made jokes about Gulf Air (again ages back) as they seemed to stop off at various Middle Eastern places picking up and dropping off like a bus service.
  14. I thought the old one was on second rd, where the Avenue is now. They may well have had a second operation where you say though.
  15. Slight misrepresentation. Going via the ME is out of the way. Flight time London to Bahrain is normally 7-7.5 hours. Bahrain onward to Bangkok about 7 hours. Sometimes you might do better with a tail wind.
  16. I normally only do 2 UK trips out per year, but sometimes do a 3 month visa run to somewhere nearby, like Singapore or Bali.
  17. I can't even remember when the new airport opened, nor have I counted how many times I have been through it.
  18. I can only imagine it is a similar problem as per XP in IP allocation. Wireless networks normally the router should be responsible for assigning IP address. Vista doesn't make things easy but perhaps the following route will help.Right-Click on your wireless icon in notoification area and select Network and Sharing Centre In that window on the left select the Manage Wireless Networks At the top of that window, take the Adaptor Properties (also accessed via Control-Panel, Network and Internet, Network and Sharing Centre, Manage Wireless Networks, Adaptor Properties) Under the Networking Tab... normally everything is ticked in here... You can select the 'Internet Protocol Version 4' and 'Properties' Normally Obtain IP address and DNS address are automatic. Similar options are available under IPV 6. I get a bit confused here but all my settings are automatic and it seems to work most places. If you have a home wireless network whereby your computer normally controls IP addresses it will conflict. You likely know more than me or perhaps can figure it out from here!
  19. Remember to take your shoes off!
  20. Actually, at Bangkok I went through security before immigration. I posted it was a bit of a nuisance trying to get my belt back in and passport out at the same time. Others (Eneukman) have posted completely contradicting your statement above, so someone is wrong. I am getting tired of this..... I just repeat the statements.Non passengers should not be allowed to go to the gates. A centralised security doing a thorough job is far more efficient than 25 or more security checks at the gates. American carriers, or carriers to America, may well have a secondary security check at the gate area. My last flight via Qatar in September, I did not go through any further security checks after the one PRIOR to immigration. And very efficient that was too. Things may be different now as it is some weeks later...... so I will have to take my closer look at Bangkok next time I fly, which may well not be until Spring. I have flown through Singapore Airport more than twice, and used Singapore Airlines many times. You apparently are stuck on United. One carrier from one country. I think that airports have single security checks for all passengers because it makes a lot more sense than having multiple ones at each gate with the multiple repetition of equipment and personnel. You have to check passports and boarding cards centrally anyhow. Bangkok used to have security prior to check in and at the entrance to each gate wing. Apparently that has been changed, I noticed it, Eneukman did, 2 slices short and Stinky too. Stinky thought it vastly improved. You prefer security checks at each gate with crowds of relatives waving off the passengers there. As you like. I think we can conclude some carriers will still do gate security checks as a vote of no-confidence (thanks Joe), but passengers will still go through a prior check irrespective of you thinking individual gate checks being better. I seem to recall that many US airports have security centralised, well after 9-11. Prior to that it was low level... allowing non-passengers through too.
  21. King Sized bed.... Extra pillows. In-room safe.... No joiner fee, but some level of security. No smoking rooms (you can never get that vile stink out). Large in room fridge (not the shoe box size), give guests the option of filling it themselves or you stock it as a mini-bar. Good booking staff, westerners are used to using the internet and emails to get things done, Thai staff are often lazy about replying and disorganised. High level of English proficiency at the reception desk. Television with cable/satellite, a remote control and a lounging sofa. Room service for meals/ drinks. Good hot water system that can be controlled... nice to get hot water at the sink for shaving, but sometimes this makes the shower uncontrollable. Wireless Internet maybe. A neighbourhood wild dog extermination policy...
  22. If you are running XP, above post should cure it. If you have Vista, let us know and I will see if I can detail that.
  23. You will have to pay the 99 baht bill with 1 baht coins.... and a 10 minute wait between each!
  24. Isn't that like shwarma? Chicken or lamb on a pita bread rolled with all sorts of gook? Corner of Marine Plaza...
  25. If they mix it up like you mix up your letters it won't taste so good!
