  1. I think they advertised it for the Manhattan on TV last night.
  2. He takes it to the recycling places and gets more for it of course. There are many down Soi Khao Noi area and toward Khao Talo. You are either getting a good deal or collect a good pile of prime rubbish.... I rarely got over 100 baht for mine when it started getting in the way. More recently I save it for one collector who seems to have a bad lot in life and give it away, and deter those annoying guys who go through my bin tearing up the bags in there.
  3. Well it would seem that airports do not agree as, for example, Bangkok has centralised to a single main security just after immigration. I have always found it most annoying to be called out of the lounge on a 'boarding call' to be subjected to further security at the gate, long lines, and then packed into a gate holding area at the top of the jetway, which is not yet open. Do security once and do it well. Your consideration of the airport retailing staff (I don't see why they should not go through a security check of their own) is minor. Your way we now have to put all the passenger purchases through security checks at the gate, particularly the liquids. How about the staff who do the checks at the aircraft, where did they go through security? Also the boarding staff, caterers, luggage security, pilot and stewardesses. Are you planning that they drag all the X-ray equipment between gates or, rather inefficiently, have a set at every single gate and the multiple skilled operators. No, this is dumb..... as security checks become more sophisticated, the equipment changes, it s looks for other than metal (liquids and plastic weapons), fast moving but fewer devices is more practical. Moving it to the gates where space is limited, and repeating it x number of operating gates..... ??? Then again, there might be a new trend of suicide bombers at the crowds going through security at the gate! Yes let us give them an opportunity to sneak a tank in pieces and assemble it in the toilet or Power Duty Free.
  4. Really...I must be confusing Singapore with Siberia! (PS It might be faster to use the railway network than drive)Let me try the other question.... What is more efficient, a single central security for all the airport or 25+ little independent ones at each gate.....? Toughie this one........... Are you winding me up?
  5. Are you in China......? Those censors are a bit slow!
  6. There is an alternative treatment called 'Zoom'.... it is expected to reduce sensitivity. It is a light activated gel applied... About 10,000 baht and I know Phyathai (Sri Racha) has it.
  7. You don't pull kwh, you consume kw and multiply it by the time it was consumed. Just taking the 36W (and not all the consumption around the bulb), run it for 1 hour, that is 36(the power)x1(time in hours)/1000(convert watts to kilo-watts)....0.036kwh. Another way would be to accurately measure the power by simply measuring current, multiply by the voltage..IxV=Watts. Sadly it can be more complicated than that but I hope you get the gist! Hey, I ain't all that fat... these early mornings keep my weight down.
  8. What's wrong with my link????
  9. As you took my snide remark so well I think I will give you a thumbs up. Made it to Pattaya and back without getting killed or rained on yesterday on the motorcycle..... but was waiting at the junction of 36/Sukumvit. The way these trucks come hurtling off 36 and swing left infront of coaches and trucks and bikes doing quite a speed, I wonder if the ditches at the road edge are for rainwater or blood!
  10. I think I would go along with that, having stayed in Mexico for a few years you do have to be careful where you eat. California might well come in second....after Texas!
  11. Yes, the exception to prove the rule.I don't live in Pattaya so getting out of it is pretty easy. If anything, I expect the taste for cheese to be more acquired in Pattaya.... (Think about this now.... take your time!) So how did these rural Thai people acquire their taste for cheese? Last time I checked in Nakhon Nowhere, the rural fat Thai lady store didn't carry it. Even the 7-11 down the street only carries that disgusting processed stuff plastic wrapped in slices.... not cheese really! It may have caught on with a few richer Thais who dine at the Bangkok hotels and European restaurants, those that have taken vacations in Italy etc. But if there was the market, it would be made locally, in quantities.
  12. Dear me Emil... things do fly over your head somewhat! So they didn't check your passport and boarding card before the gate then and allowed you into the international area? Is this the Budget carrier terminal?
  13. More replies likely this time around. Although I bet most of them are commenting regarding repeating topics. Here is a man who needs to get out more.
  14. I would say that comment can be applied to a few other foreign restaurants here too. Lazy falangs who set up a business and then apply Thai management. Quite a few Pattaya venues who insult Italy with poor food and most un-Italian like ways of serving it. It's a damned good place for Thai food though..... Not sure about KFC or McDonalds here, mostly shite worldwide!
  15. Well walking down the dairy section in Carrefour you might not believe that. But try offering a piece of cheese to a Thai, and if you can get them to try it, the look of disgust at the taste might explain the lack of a market. If I fly back here via Amsterdam, my fridge is as well stocked as Carrefour.... at it is all MINE!!
  16. It is kwh (killo-watt-hour) units. The amount charged per unit varies according to the consumption..see link. I'll get my bill and get back to you!My consumption puts me at 1.8 baht for first 150kwh... Plus 2.78 baht/kwh 151-400 kwh. How about this....? Then they add on this..... My bill was 525kwh...that cost.......1378 baht. The FT charge 0.9255 per kwh.....+485.9 baht Tax at 7%.....................................+130.5 baht Grand total....................................1994 baht! And that is her electric vibrator in the trash!
  17. Without a boarding card and passport at Singapore I doubt you can get to the gate.... or perhaps you were on a domestic flight there.... Get real, allowing passengers to the gates is crazy. Those are secondary security checks made by the airline, non passengers should not be going through the primary airport security, letting your aunty and uncle come to the gate is just stretching the security and also putting it at risk. You should see the number of 'friends' seeing off a passenger or two when PIA leave Manchester, UK.
  18. Yes, that is just what security needs, extra non-passengers going through the exhaustive checks. Why not let them on the plane then they can kiss their friends goodbye in the seats!
  19. Don't you just have to take a look behind your door. I thought these scrounging charity shops posted leaflets and bags for your old clothes every other day.
  20. Nope, I get that too.
  21. But sadly we just lost Keith Floyd, who was much more entertaining than that camp fool Ainsley.
  22. Dig up? It's a pier out over the sea isn't it? A cold-box works better, plenty of ice and some water and a few beers can be down to drinking temp in an hour. Takes all day in a fridge and that is if you can leave the door closed. Too many places struggle to serve a cold one.
  23. Just hit any bar on the darkside. Staying busy.... not obligatory....... Cost of living, cheaper than most farang countries.... Budgeting would depend on your financial status, and there are lots of threads on how much you need to live here. Health care, serious subject, again many past threads have hit this one. I don't know if you got any PMs but a lot of what you want to know can be hammered out here. Your post might pick up a one sided view from some piss head who is looking for free beer!
  24. Warning appreciated, but I expect this will die out.
  25. I have, you either stick your neck out or bury your head in the sand. There are some bargains about right now. If you don't like risk, a condo can be 100% in your name...... Lawyers are a mixed bunch, some will do you a good job, others will not, many are not even lawyers. Look for a recommendation, then confirm it with a second. The police should not be involved in property purchase....
