  1. You coming to LOS then Rick?
  2. You said 'visit or live', then it was 'choose to visit'....whatever Joe, bend it, twist it, shake it, only James Bond would know the difference in the Martini. I took a stab at your Nationality, but do not know for certain, just snippets from previous posts pointed me. Where I chose would get you bad mouthed someplaces, you seem to think you might too, so point stands. Some Thais express dislike I said, hostility you said...bend it shake it! The Scots visit England a bit too........and vice versa.......
  3. Are you asking about small binoculars, or some exotic creature? Sounds sarcastic but I really am confused.
  4. Silly idea, for me, there aren't that many though. You have a decided advantage in that match due to nationality. Ah, now a different question, keep asking different questions until we get the answer we want eh? To this one NONE. Yes better once wrote than once wise!
  5. Perhaps a certain radicalism within a particular religion. As far as visiting tourists are concerned, Thailand doesn't care where they come from. How they are received was lumped in with the original point of discussion. Although particularly in Pattaya. Yes, I worked in one or two.....but please show me where...despised you in the manner you insist Thais show towards Muslims? I said this?..... go back and reread without putting your slant on it. No, I know they are not, I am quite aware of the expanding borders....but I will tell YOU some thing, those guys are not regarded as real Muslims by many of their brethren. Nationality was not mentioned,..... a religion was. A lot of lumping there I suppose!
  6. Let me put it a little more clearly. Many Thais I know, who are Buddhists or agnostics, speak ill of Muslims, and expressed a dislike of them. In a couple of instances, I would have said hate was a valid word. They mentioned some attrocities in the South, and reacted to TV reports. Plus I bet there is one Thai lady (at least), who has yet to recover her husband's head from a Saudi Arabian fridge, who developed a dislike too.
  7. Quite a well presented speech, with a very valid content. Rightly I am extremely worried what Gordon Brown is doing to my country, starting with a currency that has rendered 30% of my working life wasted! He sees himself as the worlds financial expert, but there are no prior lessons for fixing these problems, but there were plenty of common sense rules twisted and ignored that caused them. I ask you, what idiot would buy some sub-prime debt wrapped up and presented to you as grade A stock? (With other people's money) Greenspan he ain't. Bigus... yes our politicians are quite eloquent, and can be well educated, but few can be trusted. And few might be optimistic!
  8. Translation.... Joe thinks BD is a bullshitter, but he wants to appear smarter than the others who post such comments frequently and less cryptically..
  9. Perhaps where you live Joe, I have most certainly heard many Thais speak ill of Muslims My circles may not be as well educaded or erudite as yours, but Thais they are. As to knowing that there are some mosques in Pattaya, yes, they set the dogs off in proximity of my bedroom daily. Mosques are strategically positioned to the expressways and major roads and even obvious to one landing at Bangkok's major airport. Nice of someone to donate the money for these.
  10. I just returned from Singapore and found it pretty expensive. As a tourist, I will convert to another currency....for Thai baht, multiply by about 25. For £ divide by 2. It looked worse in baht as you compare to Thai prices..... £ didn't make me feel good either. They are having problems there with falling tourist numbers and manufacturing laying people off. It has always been overpriced and devaluation makes sense.
  11. Or a few bucks less the aisle seats and then stick your legs out there!
  12. Same same.....
  13. So it's waiting to happen at the Sandy Spring....
  14. It's down in the south, it is quite a big city and even has an airport. Quite convenient for a visa run to Malaysia via Sadao. Perhaps my point has been lost in the 5 weeks since I posted.
  15. Well you sound well set up, when you thinking of retiring?
  16. That Nana Hotel is something else. I went there first time in the 80s! Back then it seemed a bit tatty, but everything was reasonable.... I quit using it when they started charging more for a beer in the coffee shop than over the road in a GO-GO. That cofee shop, spent a good afternoon in there once, girls sat all over the place, off up to the room.. back down to get another and a beer..... great way to kill time to an evening flight! Well overdue for the wreckers ball........
  17. Well not using the Mobile Edge/GPRS in the Pattaya area. As I mentioned I found it better in Chiangmai and the North. My friends TGF seemed to think it was adequate on Pratumnak Hill. I found it to be an exercise in frustration just over Sukhumvit. Other than that I can only suggest you get up early........ Third Generation (CDMA?) is suppusoed to be available in a couple of places, I think it is Hutch...... As mentioned, I got ADSL and put a router put in the house!
  18. Welcome back Arno....and don't be so negative.Farangs are showing them the way, specials on beer prices and reduced late barfines. When they see the farang bars tactics and results, they will do what they do so well...copy, bad economics be damned!
  19. 1300 baht but good reviews. http://majesticsuites.com/
  20. You have to be good at mental arithmetic to determine how much anything costs....., at near 12,000 per US$ it can make your head spin. I didn't notice much P4P where I stayed but it was a quieter beach area. Some very attractive girls working around town though.
  21. Actually those from the South can be very good too......Penang......okay it's Malaysian....and Massaman are 2 of my favourites. Okay, I like them because they are fattened up with coconut milk.
  22. Being at Bangkok would be a big plus! I have found it to be quite efficient when not occupied by red shirts. Now London Heathrow, pack a collapsable chair and a good book!
  23. Yeah, that post a link feature seemed to be messing with me....
