Boeing executives and technical experts briefed pilots at U.S. airlines that fly the Max in November about the plane, less than a month after the Lion Air crash. They mentioned changes in the flight-control software, indicating that Boeing was already at work on a solution. Boeing aimed to finish the work in April. Boeing has declined to say whether the Ethiopian Airlines crash gave new urgency to finish the work, but experts have said that is a safe bet. Engineers had to find out what the system was doing on the Lion Air flight, how the system's commands appeared to pilots, what changes needed to be made to software, manuals and training, and the best way to make those changes. Then they had to write new software code, test it — first in the lab, then on a 737 Max simulator, finally in a flying plane. And they had to be sure that the modifications didn't affect other flying characteristics of the plane. lawyers say the second crash strengthens their argument that Boeing knew the plane was defective and let it fly anyway. From Yahoo News I don't know how you guys feel, but letting the aircraft fly, while they knew there was a problem to fix stinks. It has cost the lives of a further 157 people. It worries me as to the ethics and competency of Boeing. This is going to hurt them bad. Are the repercussions muted because it happened in Ethiopia rather than the USA?

Well, maybe not for all of us living in Thailand. Got mine back a bit 'sloppy' a few times.

My concern in Thailand is that getting refunded for fraudulent charges would be a struggle, they aren't very agreeable to that! It also seems extremely easy to use a CC fraudulently here in Thailand. I just paid for cinema tickets and it was simply a matter of putting the card in and out of a slot, and larger purchases may simply require a signature that isn't compared to anything. A UK card in the name of Angus McTavish could well be used by a Thai katoey without the slightest concern.... ie my Mrs could likely take mine on a shopping spree, and before Atlas suggests it, no my Mrs isn't a Katoey! That said, so far so good.

Sounds to me like using them in Thailand would be safer than using them in the USA!

They seem to like to get the passengers to use their always late shuttles to and from Manchester.

Someone doesn't seem to agree otherwise they would not be grounded in the USA too.

These types of corrections that effectively override pilot control make me concerned... software has it's limits. Was it NASA who failed to change units correctly on Climate Orbiter ? Oops, that was in metric?

I saw a comment on one site where the fact that the Ethiopian Airlines black box and CVR being given to Airbus was likely to produce biased and inaccurate results as it would be worth billions to Airbus. How that did not apply to Boeing I am unsure.

They are near all grounded! US joins EU in grounding all flights on Boeing 737 MAX planes. https://www.euronews.com/2019/03/12/boeing-737-max-aircraft-involved-in-two-fatal-crashes-banned-from-uk-airspace https://edition.cnn.com/world/live-news/boeing-737-max-8-ethiopia-airlines-crash/index.html

And this is the only iteration with the heavier engines which I believe they moved forward to stop them hitting the ground and changed the aerodynamics such that they did this software change to push the nose down?

Something direct well overdue!

It got interesting about here. https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/safety/120514-ethiopian-737-crash-2.html I have a flight at the end of the month which I usually make on Malaysian, and 3/4 are on 737-800 equipment. I feel pleased that, for a change, I will be on Thai in one of their ancient 747's. Well I say for a change, more to do with delayed departures and aggravation at KL last time.

Was that link supposed to lead me to a discussion of the 737-Max?

Land -(1 Rai) -FULL Chanote-Good for building a house-inside city
jacko replied to how24111's topic in The Market
This land is up near the Lao border east of Nong Khai, North Issarn I see. It is only likely to appeal to someone who has plans to move to that area, likely to be near relatives of the wife. I too have done what you appear to have done, brought in trucks and trucks of earth to fill in what was likely a rice paddy previously. One other factor is the proximity of utilities if one desires to build a house. IE How far to run electricity in, where is there a water supply? One of the expensive jobs on my lady's land was building a water storage, filtering and pumping equipment. Fortunately it was close to a dam fed irrigation system and a large drainage pond was already there as supply. Still, moving from party central to Nakhon Nowhere is a major decision! -
Best SIM Cards for tourists - Update for Feb. 2019?
jacko replied to TF_Heinz's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
You should not need to allow data roaming to get on a different network, treat the phone/SMS side as separate from the 'data' side. I do not have 2 SIMS in my phone but on Android, Connections, Mobile Networks, (for SIM 2), Network Operators, Search Networks.(Usually defaults to Automatic) You may also have a phone which does not allow concurrent Mobile Networks for Both SIMS, although that would surprise me. Did you enable roaming (for your Thai SIM, this is something you would do in Thailand. For AIS it was called 'Freedom Planet' when I enabled it years and years ago.) -
Clear as mud....

Best SIM Cards for tourists - Update for Feb. 2019?
jacko replied to TF_Heinz's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Well I can log on with fingerprint on the phone, also PIN received using Thai Sim in UK on roaming (I use a different phone). Why does SIM 2 show blank, seems incorrect. Do you have roaming enabled for your Thai SIM? Try to get the Thai SIM to go to a different network. -

Best SIM Cards for tourists - Update for Feb. 2019?
jacko replied to TF_Heinz's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I forget which network my AIS went onto, I thought it was Vodaphone. I could receive SMS for free so no issues with banking. Checking balance etc was trivial as I could do it online from my phone on O2 data or laptop.
