  1. Day off??? Is there no end to the capitalist decadence destroying the country's traditional and much cherished values??????
  2. I wouldn't want to choose either of them, but if I had to then it'd be the Siam Bayview for sure.
  3. Just for the record, Pete doesn't write Nightmarch, he just posts it here for the benefit of the boardies. It's actually part of Asiabugle, which also covers BKK and other areas of LOS. The value of this service provided by Pete has increased considerably as Asiabugle is no longer available to Hotmail users. See my thread in The Members Bar if you want to know more. be seeing you monkeyman
  4. In the case of the Dusit, it depended who was on the desk. I think in theory it should have been 1000 baht per guest, but more times than not there was no extra charge for more than one.
  5. I guess this depends on whether your booking is based on room or people. If you've booked a room, then I reckon it's up to you who stays in it and the hotel has got no right to charge a joiner fee. If, on the other hand, you booked a room for one person with no single supplement then I don't see how you can complain if you get charged. I did this at the Dusit a couple of times, and even with the 1000 baht joiner fee, it was still a bloody sight cheaper than booking the room for two people. be seeing you monkeyman
  6. Just what I wanted. Thanks guys. be seeing you monkeyman
  7. I want to use my air miles for an upgrade, but I'm not sure what to do as the EVA website isn't too helpful. Can I buy a ticket and order an upgrade from anywhere or do I have to go through EVA? And what exactly do you have to do?
  8. Well, that last bit nipped a couple of dozen Dr Who jokes in the bud.
  9. I don't think I like the sound of that...
  10. Agreed. And they're Pattaya based, so the drivers know where all the hotels are.
  11. My only real criticism of Sabai Lodge is that the rooms tend to be rather dark, though this isn't true of the new Sabai Wing.
  12. Thanks Pete. Having seen and talked to Om so shortly before her death has made this all the more poignant for me. I hope our efforts will in some small way help her family to get through their tragic loss.
  13. Martin Thanks for reopening the account as I hadn't seen your post until now. I've just sent a donation. Hopefully there will be many more to follow. Om deserves nothing less. be seeing you monkeyman
  14. This is the first time I've been on the board since I last spoke to Om just three short days ago. The news is still sinking in as I try to write this. Shit happens. But why did it have to happen to her? I don't think I can write any more right now. Rest in peace, little one. I will always remember you.
  15. Maybe there's another angle to what's happening. Consider this. My recollection is that Toxin never really stood in the spotlight when it came to the so-called "Social Order Policy", but always took a step back and let Puritannical, Preacher or whoever be the focus of whatever was going on. It occurred to me that perhaps this was a policy he didn't necessarily believe in, but was something he perceived, probably correctly, as being popular with people whose votes he needed. Now the election is over and he has the majority he needs, he no longer needs to compromise or cow-tow to such people
  16. So where did this directive originate from? It all seems too low key to be any kind of political gesture.
  17. A baht bus hit one of these farang "lovelies" the other day. "Didn't you see me?" she shouted "Yes" "Well why didn't you drive round me?" "Didn't have enough fuel"
  18. I think that the criticism tends to be on aesthetic rather than geographical grounds. Good accessibility, bad ambience.
  19. Well, a move to Walking Street would make a lot of sense as the biggest criticism you ever hear of the Vientiane is its location.
