  1. At least one shop in IT Mall has boxes of used vinyl and there may be others. Probably on the 4th floor. I only took a brief look awhile back and as I recall there was mostly Western pop and classical stuff and the prices seemed high. I don't recall seeing any Asian stuff but I didn't really spend much time browsing. Go during the day as they and a number of the other small shops there close by 18:00. You might also ask the DJs in Bangkok re possible sources. -redwood
  2. South side of Soi Honey Inn with part of it backing on the Pasadena?? It's not a hotel, but rather a row of shop houses - 4 stories. The entire structure is for sale. Part of it is rented as a guest house - most of the rest is vacant. -redwood
  3. There are two quiz leagues. One on Monday (formerly Sunday) and the other on Wednesday evening with a 20:30 start in both cases. There’s no “roster” of players, just show up and play. (In fact it’s possible to switch teams from week to week. No one cares,) No fees from the players and no prizes either. It’s a home and away schedule. Normally finishes by 23:00. Wednesday league’s new season starts next week. Had a recent problem with Adobe Flash Player and eventually found that I needed to download the Flash uninstaller program from the Adobe website before I could get the latest version of the Player to work.   5. Maximum stay is 90 days out of 6 months using 30 day exemption stamps with no such restrictions on tourist visas. Of course Thai Embassies and Consulates may choose to deny issuance of a tourist visa if they suspect you are attempting to live in Thailand using tourist visas. Vientiane has a relatively generous tourist visa policy with double entries currently available. -redwood

  8. It's part of the Accor Hotel group and very likely not guest friendly. Have a look at this board's Hotel Reviews for Bangkok hotels. I'd come straight to Pattaya if it were me, but others will disagree. Then if you still want a taste of Bangkok do it at the end of your holiday. -redwood
  9. I see you're living and working in Paraguay. Depending on what country's passport you hold you may or may not be eligible to be admitted to Thailand on a 30 day stamp. In any case without a visa the airline may not allow you to board without having a return ticket within 30 days. If you're planning on 6 weeks here you'll need to get a tourist visa. -redwood
  10. Bank Gold on Soi Rungland is a gold shop money changer with lots of mentions on the various boards. I've used Yenjit money changer on Walking St. beyond the FLB - but before Simon beer bars. -redwood
  11. Lots of houses and townhouses for rent that never get advertised except for a sign on the property. Get a map and drive around with a Thai speaker in areas where you'd think you'd like to live. Call the number and go from there. You'll likely hear some silly prices once they realize a farang is involved but eventually you'll find something. It's a good time of year to be looking as you can check for flooded sois. Also once you've narrowed it down to a very few choices have a look late at night. Nearness to shopping - Big C, Tesco, Car4 etc. is a big plus - as is access to the baht bus

    If he had an extension of stay prior to the new rule they allowed "grandfathering", that is those who had previously qualified based on 400K baht in a Thai bank were allowed to continue qualifying on that basis or they could opt to use family income to qualify. -redwood

    You want to apply for an extension of stay based on qualifying for retirement. The form for this is the same as for the "family" (i.e. marriage) extension, namely the TM.7. You'll need to show 800,000 in your Thai bank account for 3 months prior to applying. The financial rules for qualifying for an extension of stay based on having a family/marriage were changed 1 Oct. 2006. You no longer can qualify by showing money in the bank.   17. From what I've read and experienced US banking laws require you to apply in person at your US bank in order to transfer funds out of the USA. I applied at my bank (Wells Fargo) in person for a repetitive wire transfer agreement. This allows me to request wire transfers for a period of several years. I telephone the USA and give them my details including a ID code number and the money, in US dollars, is transferred to my Bangkok Bank account using its SWIFT code.   21. Yes, I've had a box for 4 years. Good to have a permanent mailing address given I've moved 4 times in that span. I think there may be a waiting list now, but when I got my box I just filled out an application and they then mailed a notice to me - so you need at least a temporary mailing address here in Pattaya - I then took the notice back to the post office, paid the fee and got my key. Fee is 160 baht per year. -redwood

  23. If you are standing on the sidewalk/pavement in front of Carrefour on Pattaya Klang and are facing east looking toward Sukhumvit you will see a 4 story building across the street on the corner. This building is painted orange and there's a 7/11 on the ground floor. -redwood
  24. Maybe poor directions on my part but what it says (caps are theirs) is: "BREAKING NEWS, WORABURI INN AND JASMINE SUITES [sukhumvit Soi 23] ARE NO LONGER GUEST FRIENDLY. JOINERS ARE BEING CHARGED EVEN IF YOU BOOK A DOUBLE." But in the case of the OP it probably doesn't apply anyway, so never mind. -redwood
