I think it has to do with the script that resizes photos. After a while, Safari gives up and we get a "slow script" message.

I use Safari and used Safari on my prior MacBook Pro. On my old computer, I found a fix. Now that I have a new computer, I don't remember how I fixed the problem last time. I'm too lazy to look it up. Of course, if people wouldn't post huge picture files, there wouldn't be a problem.

I also don't see a problem with Russians. They surely don't seem to bother anyone, and some of the Russian girls look good, especially in bikinis. Of course, most probably only speak Russian. One time, though, I did hear two Russian girls speaking English in a baht bus. They were telling someone they were from Moscow.

I've never had a problem. I think, if your bank has an https connection, you should be OK. I'd rather use my own laptop than an internet cafe. I'm no computer expert, though. Maybe one of the experts around here can shed more light on the matter.

Fox News is a Republican propaganda channel. You's have to be very dense to think it was actually a "news" channel.

Living in Bangkok might be a little more expensive, but all things being equal, I'd live in Bangkok rather than Pattaya. You can always take a trip now and then to the beach. Of course, those aren't the only places to live in Thailand.

Anyone else noticed a drop in food quality at PBG lately?
js007 replied to frostfire's topic in Restaurants and food
I had some Thai food there the other day in the afternoon. It was OK. Not great, just OK. -
Maybe the answer is to prohibit the baht busses from accepting private fares. Force them to do the job they're licensed to do.
-
If need be, I can always walk where I want to go. In Phuket, many people refuse to use the tuk tuks at all, thanks to the antics of the tuk tuk guys. They want 200 baht for a single trip within Patong Beach, for example. That's nonsense.

Don't some of the airlines sell access to their upscale lounge areas? Or is the original poster looking for somewhere to sleep and take a shower or whatever?

Three or four years ago I sometimes had a problem getting baht busses to stop. One eventually would, though. Today, I was trying to get one to stop on Second Road and four or five just drove on by before one stopped. Seems stupid on their part. Surely having a passenger is better than not having one at all. Wasn't there some talk a while back about a light rail system for Pattaya? That might get their attention.

That's good if it works that way. In this case, they see me walk out the door in the morning. I may be gone for a few hours - certainly enough time to clean a room. But the maid is sitting around doing nothing, from what I can tell. Anyway, by the middle of the afternoon I'm probably taking a nap and I'm not about to vacate the room so it can be cleaned. Oh well. My new philosophy is that I don't care if they clean the room or not. I'm the one on vacation. I'll do what I want when I want. If that means a dirty room, so be it.

Well, it looks that way. I've always just stayed in hotels and guest houses, so I've never tried to rent one for a month or two, but I'm sure guys do it.
-
Secrets hotel is pretty good about cleaning the room. Go to breakfast at 8AM and your room is clean when you return. That must be one of their priorities. Making some effort to clean the room when the guest is out. A nice touch. Sabai Lodge? They always seemed to be on a schedule. Same time every day, for the room cleaning. I think next time I'm in town I'll just rent a condo for a month or two and not have to worry about it. Once in a while, I can pay for maid service.
-
I've tried the "Please Clean Room" sign. It doesn't make any difference. All it means to them is "please clean room if you feel like it and when you get around to it." I'm going to stop worrying about it. I usually leave a 40 baht tip every day. I guess she'll stop getting that money if I'm in the room when she wants to clean it.
-
Some hotels I've stayed in made a real effort to clean the room when I'm out of it. Others have maids that could seemingly care less. They clean the room when they're good and ready. So, the question is this: should I feel obligated to vacate the room whenever the maid feels like cleaning it, or should I just tell her politely to buzz off if I happen to be in the room when she wants to clean it?

You guys forgot about "Deep Throat."

You can call land lines on Yahoo messenger, also. I haven't checked the rates to Laos, but the few times I called the USA from my computer in Thailand, I think they somehow charged me the USA rats of 1 cent per minute. Of course, computer to computer calls are free. I found Yahoo Messenger to be more stable than Skype. Edit: I just checked. Calls to Laos are 10 cents a minute.

I don't even think about it much anymore. I just consider myself lucky that I don't have to support one of them. -
Thai Cops to Crack Down on Foreign Gangs
js007 replied to Evil Penevil's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I still don't know why they let these clowns into Thailand in the first place. As one poster said, they don't come to spend money, they come to commit fraud or deal drugs, in all likelihood. How can that be a positive? Maybe they could execute a few now and then on live TV. That might get their attention. -
February and March.

You can open an account in the USA for the purpose of direct deposit of a government pension or the like, which they will then transmit to your Thai account at the Bangkok Bank. Once your money is in Thailand, I suppose you can draw it out of a Bangkok Bank ATM without charge.

I was once looking up some old NYC bars on the internet and I found an internet NYC bar graveyard. All the old bars were there. Can you imagine all the Pattaya bars that have come and gone?
-
Hi, I'll stop in sometime in February for some Mexican food.

I've had too much wine to think much. But, how about Jack Nicholson in "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest"? A classic if there ever was one. Dustin Hoffman, in "The Graduate." Tom Cruise in "Risky Business." Samuel L. Jackson "Pulp Fiction" Al Pacino, "Scent of a Woman." Marlon Brando, The Godfather" Paul Newman, "Cool Hand Luke." I'll think about this later.
