You were making a previous point that no one went to see Scottish Irish or Welsh football. The big two in Glasgow get massive home attendances for League and European fixtures not just for 4 Old Firm league games. The BBC showed Old Firm games live for a few seasons on all their regions until Setanta secured the rights so presumably they felt there was a demand for them. Of course I do not think there are more people want to watch Scottish Football than English Football. The population of England is 8/9 times that of Scotland. Apart from small populations Ireland and Wales also suffer from the fact that football is not their national game. Both Celtic and Rangers want to get into the Premier League to get their hands on some of that money to enable them to compete more effectively in the transfer market. The usual lack of real competition hampers them when they make the step up to European level. To head off the howls of outrage from Edinburgh I better add that they have been getting plenty of competition so far this season.

Winnie, I was under the impression that there are usually 50,000 or more at Old Firm games in Glasgow. And many fans (not F......s) watch it on TV. It must be galling to be paying huge amounts to keep Northern Ireland going, and they have not the decency to let England beat them.
