  1. Kruggerands, Canada Maple Leaf, Pandas aren't coins for collectors, they are coins for investment by weight in .999 or .9999 gold. I think they would be easier to sell for spot price more than an ingot which absent an assay certificate is going to need assay. There is a small premium over spot to buy the coins. Maple Leaf gold coins are really close to being the "gold standard" for gold bullion in smaller quantities. As pointed out the US Gold Eagle is 22K, or 92% gold roughly the same as Thai "Baht Gold". You can get an idea of forms and costs of gold here http://www.scotiamocatta.com/eStore/index.htm Actually if you can secrete the coins well enough to avoid theft and discovery, 3 Maple Leaf coins would be a good $5,000 stash for emergencies in not much space and convertible to cash anywhere especially in Asia.
  2. Is that overall improvement net of excluding your posting as other people here and presumably other forums? Just wondering.
  3. Their gold bullion special of 1 ounce (troy) for 18 satang and a bottle top has also been suspended indefinitely due to a soft market for bottle tops.
  4. TIMBOS and The Sports Bar are where? Soi, area, etc.
  5. Well not that it matters since we aren't talking about using them but I have done voice on Skype with a 56K modem, no video though. Skype has even made a UNHCR "bespoke" version for satellite or similar low speed connections that apparently functions as low as 2-3k/sec.
  6. The first person you encounter in the FastTrack lane is a grim looking immigration officer who I am sure knows the cost is 1200 to 1600 or more so he'll be impressed with the bribe and the amount for sure.
  7. Skype uses so little bacnwidth you can use it with a 56K modem. Here's their requirements, quite easy to find in many hotels. I had no problem working on Citrix VPN, Skype and general internet in Pattaya. The bandwidth required by Skype depends on the type of calls you want to make. The table below provides the minimum download and upload speeds required, as well as the recommended speeds for best performance. Call type Minimum download/ upload speed Recommended download/ upload speed Calling 30kbps / 30kbps 100kbps / 100kbps Video calling / Screen sharing 128kbps / 128kbps 300kbps / 300kbps Video calling (high-quality) 400kbps / 400kbps 500kbps / 500kbps
  8. The heat in Mexican food comes from oils in the peppers they use and water doesn't help anywhere near as much as something like whole milk, cream (which nobody seems to sell in Thailand), yogurt not made with skim milk, sour cream, butter, or anything with oil in it to dissolve and remove the offending substances.
  9. Bangkok Kung-Fu was good and quite funny, sort of a Shaolin King-Fu and soap opera combo in one. Here's why I have gone to Thai movies. First it is cheap. Second if you're not cheap you get the big love seat for THB$500 at the back (your TG should have a card that offers points and 100 Baht off the 600 Baht price). Third you get a blanket and can snuggle and if it is truly shitty then you can have a nap for two hours. Finally like Bangkok King-Fu they are not as bad as say, Final Destination 5 or Zookeeper. And you come across as a generous guy for $16.
  10. Bicycle inner tubes and a twist tie on one end will be no less sensitive that cheap-ass Durex and can be rinsed and reused for several thousand kilometres. Buy a better brand and don't lament their unavailibility. Try Bare (Avanti) ironically from Durex, but polyethylene not latex or for latex, Trustex, both very, very thin.
  11. Note while all the buildings are razed if you walk down Soi 2 the spirit houses are untouched and still being used. Thai's aren't going to knock those little houses down.
  12. This has been discussed ad nauseam here once and the other boards. Gonorrhoea is not resistant to the Cephalasporin which is the gold stadard, first line treatment. It has been resistant for all practical purposes for a while to Quinilones and in Asia longer than other locations, so the ol' Cipro will not be effective. NB Cipro is still your first line for the scours, shits, trots, Montezuma's Revenge, etc. and Prostatitis. Wrap your willy or if you are exclusive both get a test for the clap , it's only about $5-6. Add Chlamyida too. The lab I've mentioned before off of 3rd Road and near Soi 17 3rd Road will test for Gonorrhoea , Chlamydia, HIV (quick) and VDRL (Syphilis) and Hep B for THB$600 with results same day. The Quick HIV isn't perfect but it is a good sign when negative. Ceftriaxone still works as does Cefixime. Note the addition of Azithromycin is not for gonorrhoea at all but for Chlamydia which is almost (but not) always co-infecting in cases of gonorrhoea . What the HPA still says is: Current Antimicrobial Prescribing Policy Therapy for gonorrhoea is often given before the susceptibility of the infecting organism is known, and GRASP has both informed and recommended changes to national guidelines to ensure that more the 95% of infections respond to first-line therapy. Current treatment-guidelines recommend a cephalosporin: Ceftriaxone 500mg IM as a single dose with Azithromycin 1g oral as a single dose and Cefixime 400mg oral as a single dose as an alternative if an intramuscular injection is contra-indicated or refused by the patient . Fluoroquinolones such as ciprofloxacin or ofloxacin are no longer recommended as first-line therapies for gonococcal infections.
  13. Apple does not keep track of anything stolen (this misconception comes up a lot in the Apple support world) and the fake serial number will be the same as a real one so this advice isn't going to work. They are not the "DMV" of iPads. If you want to buy Apple buy at an authorized dealer of which there are in Bangkok. I can't imagine what part of the world you have to live in to pay Thai prices but if there's no other option don't buy at Tukcom. You won't get a warranty for starters and it can be fake and will be total shit if it is. Also 16GB is a very poor choice for any iPod/iPad as that is not going to hold much. I have a 64GB and have to remove things to add new things all the time. Bad choice unless it's all one can afford but waiting until a proper one can be bought is smarter.
  14. Asiatravel is down to its last 302 different BKK hotels with rooms on 12/31 so he needs to hustle. And only 92 in Pattaya
  15. There was quite a good legal article recently pointing out the pitfalls of a farang (or a Thai for tha matter) using a holding company to own property then living in it. All about not paying taxes for the free compensation to the owner of the company etc., sounded dire. Ask a Thai law firm.
  16. Try finding cream (not milk) for coffee. I couldn't. Nor in Bangkok.
  17. Of course nothing is stopping YOU from using a condom As for fucking the guy over who's doing that? She is.
  18. Please note the man in the lower picture is not to scale.
  19. I use the Fast Track CIP service on arrival and departure as it is provided by Cathay Pacific for free (well,as part of the fare for Business and First Class). Last trip arrived 3 weeks ago, 5 minute walk to immigration, I was the only person there, so 2 minutes for that, priority luggage was out 3rd piece, another 5 minutes or so, and I was out beating Mr. T's driver by about 5 minutes, 12 or so minutes after arrival. I don't know how normal immigration is. I arrived at 1030 and checked in for leaving at 1 p.m. For departure I was 2nd in the queue at security and waited for three people before me at the CIP immigration booth. However you pay for it, if you hate lineups and idiots in the queue then pay for one of the services as a good start and end to your trip. Or fly Thai in their premium classes (especially First) as they have their own immigraton and security facilities and you get a preflight massage, no HE. If you can connect in Frankfurt to Lufthansa's first class they have their own special terminal and take you to the plane in a Mercedes.
  20. Good job editing his dick-ass link too.
  21. IE is shit and nobody should use it unless there is a site which depends on ActiveX controls. And those are few and far between like corporate virtual VPN, some sharing sites like Web Alliance. If those aren't where you're headed then avoid it like the plague and resource sucking hog it is. Use Firefox.
  22. Maybe zarusoba the OP is blind and we've helped him tho' if he is he can't read the help and if he's not then he's a wee bit too lazy to read what it says on the power supply. I just hope he doesn't get a kite and a string.
  23. Terminal velocity is nearly 120 mph not achieved in 33 feet. From the Argonne National Labs: For a typical person, terminal speed is 60 m/s or approximately 135 miles per hour. A person has to fall over 400 yards before you really need to start taking this into account. The 32 feet you remember is the acceleration to gravity. A falling object increases its velocity by 32 feet per second per second it falls.
