  1. In your example of the guy that can hardly walk, having the 800K on deposit would not alleviate him from going to the bank for the deposit letter. It's actually another checkmark in the positive column for using an agent. Of course in the negative column would be the risk of getting pulled up for not having the funds on deposit. The most likely scenario for that happening is if the person was doing something else that was frowned upon here. Not meeting the conditions of the extension to stay would be just one more thing they could throw at the guy as an excuse to kick him out of the count
  2. Apologies if I misread, misunderstood what you wrote. But in the first sentence you used the word "irritated".
  3. Why be irritated by what others do that has no impact on what you do? I also think you're making an incorrection assumption that those going the agent route have inadequate finances. While probably true for some, my take is the majority going the agent route have more than adequate finances for funding their retirement here. They choose to use an agent as a matter of convenience and because it makes good financial sense not to tie up money that could be earning a better return elsewhere.
  4. Like you I won't tie up 800K in a Thai bank earning next to nothing. I've also made the decision to skip the 65K/month route as I'd rather leave myself the opportunity to move chunks of money over when the exchange rate is favorable. That decision worked out well as I was able to catch the nice bump up in the exchange rate towards the end of last year.
  5. Surprised they didn't design the new parking area for angle parking. Probably fit at least twice as many cars into the same space.
  6. Had a look today at the new "path". Unfortunately didn't spot any boobies being flashed. It's passable, but I'll bet those rocks are extremely slippery when wet.
  7. In the US the distinction would be a condo is something you can own whereas an apartment is rented. Perhaps the equivalent to apartment here would be "room".
  8. I've known the ice guy for years as we buy the ice for hash runs from him. Super nice guy, hard working. The large bags of ice are 30B. We also buy block ice that takes two people to lift for 120B each. No charge for delivery. This is why we need large ice blocks... 👣
  9. Our neighborhood ice guy making his morning deliveries.
  10. Another bad day in paradise. Don't remember it being this bad before well into April.
  11. Thought the air looked thick on this morning's bike ride.
  12. A clever repurposing of Styrofoam ice chests; a hydroponic garden for a restaurant on Soi Bong Koch. A tire trap for those on two wheels on the stalled road works on Soi 15. Seems there's also something blocking the Beach Rd footpath. Thought it was tomorrow the madness started. Looks like I was wrong. The beginning of 9 days of madness in Pattaya.
  13. Many of those areas were on the decline pre-pandemic. The pandemic just accelerated their demise.
  14. If you've had CAT service for a long time, it could be you're on the same plan as when you first signed up. Like most things electronic or internet providers, cost of the product or service has dropped over the years. Unless you ask, they're happy to continue to charge you the higher amount each month/year. I've gone back to my service provider a couple of times over the years with the result I received a faster connection for less money each time. As for the mobile data plan, the catch with the sim purchased through a Lazada seller, that price is good for one year only. If you go to True
  15. 1200B/month seems on the high side. Before taxes I'm paying 600B for True Fiber. For backup internet access and convenience when I'm out and about I also have a True data sim. Cost is about 1200B for the year. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/i549140055-s996286943.html
  16. While the Khao Chaphlu fire is making the air pollution worse, it does make for a spectacular view at night. Mountain blaze nears residential area, threatens Khao Yai
  17. More idiocy. Someone should tell the idiots a fire truck is used to put out fires, so use it to stop the source of the pollution. Unfcking believable. Toxic air still choking North "The causes were still extensive outdoor burning and the large number of fire hotspots in neighbouring countries, coupled with stagnant air."
  18. And you would be correct on that point. Fortunately we have enough hashers on trail to fan out and find true trail again, much like you would do for a check. https://www.pattayamonkeyh3.com/PMH3/RunReportLkup.html?103
  19. I commented on yesterday's hash trail the Thai are more afraid of Covid than air pollution. What prompted the comment is the trail took us through an active burn off area. This was outside Pattaya near Asian University.
  20. Spotted the wild Arunotai pig out and about yesterday evening. There's also a monkey that's been walking the area wires and rooftops, but I've been too slow to get my camera out to take a pic.
  21. The new pavers are not hiding stains very well. The stretch on the north end of the footpath is only a few weeks old and is already looking like its seen better days.
  22. Picture of the spacing of the no parking signs. If they had turned them to face passing traffic it would increase their visibility, but still they're close enough that you would have to be fairly nearsighted, or have your head in the phone too much to not see them while parking.
  23. Looks like a great place to wander about. It's also looks like you had the place to yourself. Is it too new not many have learned it's open?
