Mabprachan Lake water levels are extremely low. This pic is of the NE side of the lake. They're now sucking every last drop out of the low areas. Better get your soapie in before the pumps are sucking mud. Looking east towards the new park they've been working on over the past year. The new park is looking good. Once they finish the landscaping, hopefully with plenty of shade trees and a return of the rains, the park should be a nice place to spend an afternoon. But for now the view from the park is pretty bleak. Fishing is easier though. Grab a bucket and scoop the fish up.

Construction update from late afternoon yesterday. Heavy traffic northbound which isn't unusual for the time of day. Most of work now taking place north of the walkover bridge. Not sure what's going on here. Don't know what the panels are for, or the purpose of the concrete pad. Doesn't seem strong enough to serve as the roof of the tunnel. Plus I would think they would dig out the underpass first, then put the roof in. Not easy to see in this pic, but the diversion by SCC is gone.

Beach road widening
forcebwithu replied to midlifecrisis's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
And they've added several speed bumps along the way. Not sure why they needed those as traffic never moved fast with all the choke points from food carts and bikes parked halfway into the soi. -
And don't forget the final insult to injury, at least with Air Asia. The last step to pay informs you of a booking fee, even though you're doing all the work of booking on their website.

Not much to see in today's update. Just some moving of dirt around. And a look at the digging going on at the SCC intersection.
-
Pic update on construction progress Looks like they've started digging. Crane was working to pull a form out. Didn't succeed while I was there. This bit, bit off more than it could chew. Traffic is still being diverted around SCC intersection.

Marathon Sunday, Buddha Days Monday & Tuesday
forcebwithu replied to Evil Penevil's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Alcohol sales are banned on the 30th & 31st, Thursday and Friday. -
Agree, invadeIT was the more professional of the two. Probably b/c they're a smaller business and thus a more personal touch.
-
I've had the same positive experience ordering from Lazada. Another online store I've ordered from with equally good experience is invadeIT.

Well, heading out of Pattaya is clear sailing now, but coming in you're going to have slow going for the next couple of weeks while they finish digging the trench for the new drain pipe. Glad on I'm two wheels instead of in a cage on four.

And the view to the north... lane diversion north of SCC intersection Looks like they're wrapping up the waste water drain laying on the northbound side. All northbound lanes s/b reopened soon.

Readers submission cut and pasted into a book on Amazon
forcebwithu replied to Malzy's topic in Idle Chit Chat
Stick wrote about this in one of his weekly articles back in May. Here's a link to the article and an excerpt on the subject from his article... The Greek A couple of months ago I was informed that an ebook was being sold on Amazon with material copied from this site. The book, if you could call it that, was an abomination of a work. It comprised large excerpts copied and pasted from this site and others directly in to a Microsoft Word file. The fonts hadn't been changed and it was all tied together with the most appalling prose. It may have been amateur hour at its worst, but amazingly Amazon actually published it. I contacted Amazon about it and they pulled it immediately. I thought that would be the end of that. I was wrong. I would soon receive email from the author, a belligerent fellow with a Greek name, claiming that there was nothing wrong with the book and that copyright did not apply. Amazon had informed him that the only way the book could be relisted was for the original complainant to give the ok. That would be me. For that to happen, he wouldn't just have to edit the book, he would effectively have to write an entire new book. Email after incoherent email came from the Greek, his tack changing by the hour. One moment we're going to be best buddies and talk about Cambodian pussy and get drunk together when he's next in Thailand. In the next email I'm an asshole. He jumped from friend to foe, changing tack as soon as he realised one approach didn't work. It was like four seasons in one day. And then he played his trump card. He told me he was a commercial pilot with an airline operating out of LAX and he could get me cheap airfares. All I had to do was remove the block on Amazon. I did something I almost never do and I Googled him. God damn, he really is a commercial pilot. * To the many readers of this site in LA (probably only Bangkok and Singapore have more readers), if you're on an American airline and the pilot has a Greek name, the guy in the cockpit might just have the morals of a crack-addicted hooker. After tirades of abuse, he announced that he was going to sue. Does that make him more American than Greek? It was of course hot air. The emails continue to come in, and the threats get more and more colourful. I put him on the blocked email list. -
Thanks to a poster on another board I now know the machinery in the pic below is for excavating a diaphragm wall. The pipes next to it are tremie pipes used for pouring concrete from the bottom up. Found a couple of pics that help explain the process. What I thought was a water filtration system is probably the bentonite slurry feed/recovery system. Interesting to know what some of the equipment is and how it's used.

A lot more to see now looking north SCC intersection where I believe they're getting ready to close down Suk to one lane each way as they route the new drainage pipe across Suk.
-
Construction progress looking south Traffic congestion at Pattaya Klang intersection A lot of manual labor goes into constructing rebar reinforcements Guessing this is some sort of water filtration system New stairway for workers midway across the walkover bridge.

Parking on Beach Road
forcebwithu replied to InternationalTraveler's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
You can legally turn left on red from Klang on to Soi Arunothai from either direction. -
Suspect that's a pressure pump to give you a boost in water pressure into the house. When the city water supply shut off the pump probably ran itself dry then shut off, thus the need to prime it.

Parking on Beach Road
forcebwithu replied to InternationalTraveler's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
That's one of a couple of shortcuts you can use to avoid the busy Klang/3rd Rd intersection. The one you mentioned is Soi 3, before that you can turn on Soi Arunothai and then take the next right. And if you'd like to practice a bit of off road work, across from Foodland you can turn left onto the bumpy, rock strewn, dirt road that runs alongside the garden shop. Again take the first right, staying on that road to 3rd road. -
Update on construction progress. Major choke point at the Klang intersection because of the new water main work. New water main slowly making its way north.
-
The diagonal cut through from Klang to Suk is now closed off and traffic is now back to using the original intersection. Looks like they're enlarging the water supply into Pattaya. Slow, but steady progress on the construction looking south. Not much work going on yet north of the walkover bridge. Wonder how far north they're going to lay the new, larger water pipes. Or maybe this is to pump out the underpass when the inevitable flood happens.

Hells Angels bar on the Darkside
forcebwithu replied to Billions's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Good eye. Didn't recognize it at first in Fondles pic due to the repainting of the wall and roof construction. -
Hells Angels bar on the Darkside
forcebwithu replied to Billions's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Looks like another one to add to the darkside map. Where on Khao Noi is the bar located? -
Stayed at the Pornping last month. No issues with the room and felt it was fair value for the quality of the room (1,324B/night through Agoda). No joiner fee either.
