I went to the Two Lions based on this thread the other night. It was about 7.30 and there were 4 other guys in there. My partner and I both ordered prawn cocktail and a cheeseburger and chips. When the prawn cocktail arrived it only contained 4 small prawns. The salad within the glass was layered in such a way that you could not mix it up and basically could only eat a layer at a time. So you started with your 4 small prawns, followed by thick slices of tomato, then thick onion slices, then a large clump of lettuce. The cocktail sauce was not a large portion though, and only just about covere

He sounds like a 'doctor' I wouldn't go to. The temperature of beer in Thailand is not massively different from UK beers and for it to affect the stomach in the way you have described would intimate to me that you would need to drink large amounts (as in huge gulps) very quickly as it will be warmed by your 'internals' on the way down. If it was so uncomfortably cold to drink, you'd pause your drinking for a few minutes, right? Personally I've never come across any beer in Patts that is as cold as you describe. Not saying it doesn't happen, but I found more often than not, the beer isn't cold

Well, looking out my window, the sky is very grey, the forecast is rain, the temperature is in single figures and i have a 200 mile drive ahead of me. On the plus side, I'm going to see my first grand daughter (already got 3 grandsons), born just 4 weeks ago! And in 4 weeks time I'll be in Patts!!! KM -
The first one you mentioned is now a market, because Pattaya is very short of markets!! If you head from the Dolphin roundabout towards Sukhumvit along Pattaya Nua, there's a petrol station on the left. KM

Sam, when you click on the 'quote' button, the text from the quoted post will appear in a box. Your cursor will be flashing just beneath it on the left. At that point you can just start typing your reply. Once you've finished your response, just click 'post' and both the quoted post in the box and your own text will appear in your new post. Hope that helps. KM -
Rhino, I hired a m/bike in Chiang Mai in November and they gave me an option of leaving a cash deposit instead of my passport. The roads up into the mountains are good for proper biking. Good wide sweeping bends and the road surface pretty good until you get to the top, but even that isn't too bad. Their helmets were shit though!! KM

Automatic Immigration Clearance Machines at Bangkok Airports
keyman replied to jacko's topic in Expat Issues
You can. If you have a 'chipped' passport. At Heathrow you just go the the automated desk, place your passport on the 'reader' and you're done. that's it. No questions, no further validation by a human - simples! KM -
Err, yes - it is! i used it last year and found it a little strange. First of all, instead of going to a normal check in you have to use an automated checkin system that may or may not issue a boarding pass. then regardless of getting a boarding pass you still have to use a normal checkin for your baggage. Now, they probably use this system to reduce manpower, but they have someone available at each of the automatic checkins and then you go to normal checkin anyway, so actually doubling the manpower!! When you're drunk you think you can do anything. You feel more relaxed and your thinking skills are impaired. You think you can drive the 'short' distance home - "I'll just ride really slowly and very carefully," you think, whilst giggling about the idea, completely forgetting that if you ride too slow your balance can be impaired too as you need forward motion to maintain balance. 'Morning after' riding/driving is affected in the same way. You think that because you haven't had a drink for 3 hours and you've had a little snooze, you'll be ok. The fact you were on the piss for several hours

BBC TV Series on Bangkok Airport

He should have gone to Thailand on holiday before he decided on getting a facelift. Plenty of girls would have saved him a fortune and tell him 'you hansum man'!! Mind you, they might have cost him a fortune too!! KM -

That's ok :) The Vat refund counters all have a machine on the front that requires you to 'tap' one of the faces on them depending on how satisfied you were with your service. It's hard not to tap the smiley happy face when someone has just given you a load of dosh for nothing!! KM -

same same me in the UK but I watched it last night. Had to laugh at the girl at the information desk who hardly moved from her chair and played on her phone pulling faces at the punters with problems - then thought she was in the running for the customer Service award!! KM -

Captain Jack, the Immigration officer who said he likes to smile at the tourists. I've NEVER seen an immigration officer smile!! Then they show a shot of him sat there with no queues and empty chairs in front of him. What happened to the huge snake of a queue that is normally there? Still, compulsive viewing! KM -
