  1. That's the beauty of Sloppy Joes. It's real sloppy like childbirth, but it's great comfort food. For best results wear your rattiest T-shirt and spill half the sauce all down the front of it. Edit: Think I'll pass on the baconburger though, I felt a heart murmur just looking at the picture.
  2. Ordered the pizza last night. Following a drunken text message to SunnyValentine, I got the number of Brooklyn Diner (086-004-2459) and ordered the anchovy and caper pizza (over the protests of my whiny-ass Commie anchovy-hating friends). The pizza arrived quickly (just around the corner) and was delicious, with lots of salty anchovy goodness.
  3. Pizza without anchovies is a crime against nature. Whenever I order pizza with a group I'm always the only one who wants anchovies. I'm glad we have some connoisseurs on board here.
  4. Checked out the new gaff last night. Looks pretty good to me. Wasn't very hungry so I ordered the chili with nachos. The chili was fresh and zesty, little blob of sour cream on top which was a nice touch, the nacho chips looked store-bought but were heated and drizzled with oil, also a nice touch. Beer was cold and reasonably priced at 55 baht. Staff were cheerful and friendly. (I do know some guys who have poured their hearts into a restaurant only to have it ruined by clueless or unfriendly staff, so I'm glad to see Sunny Valentine's peeps had the aloha spirit). As a side not
  5. Nice work once again, Monkeyman! The falling ruble has kept the Russian tourists away, which for me is a shame. Fewer topless beauties to ogle by the pool.
  6. This is so wrong. http://io9.com/behold-the-adorable-horror-of-the-mutant-giant-spider-d-1630703670
  7. This real event is probably the reason for the "Russian pullback," rather than the nonexistent events rb mentioned.
  8. I don't mind the Russians. They bathe and their women are smokin' hot. I'll miss all the topless hotties on the beach (though they always seem to be accompanied by their babushkas).
  9. Boncafe is a brand. It seems to be everywhere in Thailand. It's good coffee but it's the same everywhere.
  10. Looks good, but you'd hardly know it was called The Balcony, based on the first photo. Looks like it's called the 44 Shop.
  11. Food looks good. I vote for crispy bacon as well. Also, take the tails off the shrimp. I hate having to pick them up with my hands and pull the tails off before I can eat. Burger looks like the bomb. Will check it out.
  12. Then it's MUCH better than the Continental.
  13. Is that the bakery near the foot of Soi Xzyte, on the right as you enter from Oasis a Go Go?
  14. Oops, this should be in Restaurants & Food. Could somebody move it?
  15. I want to post a recommendation of a dandy little coffee/lunch shop on Soi Xzyte, the narrow soi that leads from Third Road (across from Bliss Lounge) down to the foot of Soi Chaiyapoon. It's on the right side as you wobble west from Bliss Lounge, across from the blasted heath where Xzyte Disco used to be. The shop has a nice veranda for people watching on the outside and a properly air conditioned dining room inside with curtain glass on three sides. Decor is cheerful and spotlessly clean. The coffee is standard Boncafe fare but there's a nice variety of styles. Service is friendly, w
  16. Odd, because I received my retirement visa without going back to Canada.
  17. Remember, folks, depending on jurisdiction, getting it on with someone just old enough to drive a car or join the military can get you sentenced to daily brutal rape for years on end! Surefire laugh chuckle. http://gawker.com/john-oliver-explains-americas-broken-prison-system-with-1608255452
  18. Speak for yourself. I'm sitting on the stone bench outside 7-11 in Jomtien nursing a warm tinny of Chang, left behind by a homeless guy. Good thing they have wi-fi here.
  19. How "mobile" are they, Butch? If I buy one and mount it on an old-timey diving suit, can I walk around beer bars feeling cool all the time, even in the hot season?
  20. They have those radiator things that you fill with ice so they radiate cool air but they don't really do fuck-all. Suck it up and buy an aircon.
  21. Here's an yahoo answer on the topic. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071116185855AAW1yiz Some good tips here. You need an AC that is the right size for the room, so it is running constantly, otherwise your room will be cool but damp. Most aircons you can buy in Thailand have a "dry" (dehumidify only) setting.
  22. I notice the OP mentions ladies and ladyboys. I find by experience that if a massage joint that has 20 women and 1 ladyboy or gay guy, that one man/former man will follow me around like shit trailing a goldfish. Better to all in one way or the other IMNSHO.
  23. There's a bar called Ran (欄) on Third Road, just south of Bliss Lounge. Run by a nice Japanese lady, they have Japanese, Thai and English karaoke. Can't miss the purple sign.
