XZone start times changing to 8 pm from 1st Oct
teelack replied to xzone nev's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
Hi Nev and best wishes. Will miss one but perhaps you can have a "First 60 week" party and I guarantee to be there. Look after my girls for me! -
Well the easy way would be to suggest that as its love, "No Pay"

I would appreciate any feedback regarding the above. I have a couple of bookings with them later this year. The two issues that concern me is that they appear to cancel flights with little or no notice and that they will be moving operations to Don Maung possibly before Christmas. Any updates or feedback appreciated.

Sabai Lodge v Residence Gardens - which is better?
teelack replied to goldeni's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Bugger it! Stay half your break in one and half in the other. There is no way you can really judge a place till you have stayed there. For me the three pools, the proximity to Beach Road, the handy baht buses and the supermarket on the doorstep are great but I do believe that the rooms in the RG are good although say 300/500 baht a night dearer. It all comes down to personal opinion and no amount of recommendations will really answer that. -
It was raining this morning so I sat down and updated my budget. Heres how it looks. I bought my ticket in July and paid there and then. I started to buy currency this month. I am off in October and back in November and because I am doing a side trip some of my accommodation will be billed in each month. Because of my billing cuttoff (mid month) I will have to pay both in full in December to avoid paying interest on the credit card account. I will need to top my spending money up in November with a debit card. Bottom line is that the trip has been spread over six months and I really dont need to use savings because of the spread. The fact that I am hit with 30,000 baht worth of accommodation in December is fine becase so much of December spending turns up in January and February! I know that people in the work force or with more income or savings will be laughing at this but I am a retired superannuant and its important to me to plan ahead.

Your best option for a 29 night visit...
teelack replied to spike's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I would also email them to make sure that your not charged a joiner fee as well. This is a new hotel but as far as I am aware all Tune places only offer the basics as part of the room cost. Let us know what you find out. -
The one thing that I have done to spin out the dollars /baht is to spread the costs. The pain is that much less. I usually book and have to pay for my air fare and that is normally three months at least before a trip. I keep an eye on exchange rates and if say the $US or the baht hits trigger points I buy in. My accommodation is put on the credit card and quite often I have say 6 weeks to pay that and other credit card accounts such as duty free purchases. In all I therefore can spread the cost of a 4 week trip over 6 months!

Sabai Lodge v Residence Gardens - which is better?
teelack replied to goldeni's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Tom. Yes the bars in Soi 2 have gone but the strip of bars fronting Second Road (opposite Big C) are good. Two have live bands and there are also a heap of bars all the way down to Soi 6. -
Sadly half the threads on the forum of recent time have been about rising costs in Pattaya and how to handle them.I say sadly because in some cases they have become a bit inflamed.Just have a look at some of these. It has to be said however that most of these relate to the cost of the ladies and there is still a mountain of cheap food (500 baht a day-no problem) and cheap drinks as long as you stick to bars or drink draft at the clubs.

Sabai Lodge v Residence Gardens - which is better?
teelack replied to goldeni's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
My way of doing things is to commit to one hotel but to inspect others for future reference. No one ever goes to Pattayas once. While your looking have a trip down soi 7 and 8 and sample some of these. I use the Sabai but the extra space at the Residence would be welcome but not neccesary.I also like the bars at the top of the soi opposite Big C which is also a great place to stock up on all sorts. -
As a general rule I believe addictions are bad however an addiction to Pattaya can be positive. Its great to have some place like this to plan and save for and friendships with both boardies and gils can last a long time. I feel rather blessed to have this addiction.

True but I dont mind if its pre paid but when you run into the likes of US25 in cash say for leavingg Cambodia this can hurt.

Hotels with a pool in Pattaya
teelack replied to ThaiLearner's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I cannot go past the Sabai Chain. Love them and the prices are excellent. Have a look on the net and check out the Internet rates. I stay at the Inn but have also stayed at the Resort and that is possibly a better location. -
Thanks for the report. Interesting and stupid. It was the second lead on the TV news tonight in NZ so that will get the tongues wagging --again!

...and I had the opposite experience. Was offered floating or laand based hotel. Took land base and it was fine with pool etc. Meals were communal and we were picked up and dropped off wherever we were needed and people that stayed in the Floating Hotel were also happy with their choice. All the costs ike train, park entry and meals were handleed by organisers as well as accommodation. As a bonus we got the Floating Market trip as well as some stops at caerving factories. I feel sure I could have not done most of this were I travelling on public transport.

So sad. I went on a similar tour and it was terrific. Great food, great accomodation and a saw so much including a trip on the train, out to the national park, Erwan I think its called, plus time out day and night in Kanchannaburi and some of the best value I have had in Thailand. I dont know who I went with but do recommend the trip.

You might recover the 500k on either a book or the film rights! -
THanks for the reminder of out favourite town. The one of the Ice Bar reminded me of when I took a TG and it cost a fortune. I got it wrong however as she wanted to go to the Eye Spa opposite Soi 6!

Hotel or Guest House In Patong
teelack replied to ThaiLearner's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Bugger me but the big fire at the Tiger was right across the road from the Baan Sukothai Because it was so near I was there every night. -
Maybe its my bigger frame but I have never been glad handed in Thailand by a tailor even in Phuket which I concede is worse than Pattaya.
-
It quite amuses me when I read or hear storiies about the complications people put themseves to when they have a spam phone call. Its as simple as hanging up and saying not one word. 5 seconds and its all done. Same same with the tailors. Start a dialogue and you are showing interest. Snub them and thats that.

Hotel or Guest House In Patong
teelack replied to ThaiLearner's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Hi there Mark. I dont have any actual recommendations but last time I was there there was all sorts of bargains for accommodation in the Bangla Road area and I would certainly recommend that you stay there. One suggestion I do have is to book in for say 1 night at the Baan Sukhothai. This is on Bangla and is a great spot but charges (or did) joiner fees. The site is www.phuket-baansukhothai.com and I think is the best situated place in Patong.
