What a gross sight. Fat men and tight jump suits - what a shocking combination. Should be banned. I never go down to Sydney Station when this mob of fatties turn up to head off to Parkes. I prefer to remember Elvis when he was slim and had real talent. Not in his waning years.

Borodudur temple, Indonesia. May 2016
gunzel3808 replied to firth1974's topic in Pictorial Travel Reports
Thanks once more firth1974. I visited this magnificent place in August 1982, when there was considerable restoration activity taking place. We visited late one afternoon and it was just before closing time and the place had an aura of tranquility which I will always remember. What a surprise it must have been for those that discovered it in 1814. -
Thanks for the photos firth. I was in Java in August 1982 when a volcano near the railway town of Tjibatu southwest of Bandung was erupting. Everywhere was covered in grey ash and the driver of our vehicle (the brother of an old school mate of mine) was petrified of driving thru the countryside. But as I was paying for his driving and I was confident we were all going to be OK (and we were) I insisted he keeping driving. It was very óut of this world' and despite a few scary moments it was all OK and I would do it again. I think this particular volcanic eruption was the one that cause

The Sultan's Palace, Yogjakarta. Indonesia. May 2016

A beautiful place and shows what a depth of culture that is to be found in Indonesia. I recall visiting the palace in 1982 and I was very impressed. -
Yes as Midlifecrisis comments, there is an interesting history between the USA and the Philippines. They are a generally a well educated nation (at least for the middle classes) but they have this major problem with religion and the belief that everything uttered by members of the Catholic clergy is the truth and must be followed to the letter. Result, a massive population, which is increasing at an unsustainable rate far outstripping their resources be that to educate, feed, and employ only a fraction of that mass of peoples. Possibly the US should have done more for them but the realit

They are gorgeous beaches Grubert. Thanks for images of a part of the PI's that I have never visited and possibly unlikely to ever visit. I do want to revisit the PIs, maybe in 2017, but most probably a direct flight down to Negros, after a very quick change from arrival in Manila, which holds very little to attract my attention these days. Thank you.

Thanks Billions for these very interesting images which hit the spot in varying degrees, as I am sure you appreciate. They show the true nature of Pattaya - from the straight tourists to the downright seedy characters who inhabit this town we love and hate in almost equal doses I am sure. The variety of sexes on show from órdinary' males and females to ladyboys, trannys, etc, etc! In stark relief and colours you show the town as it really is. Thank you.

I have fond memories of visiting TOPS for just the very reason the poster has commented. It was well located and in the end that has to be a factor in its demise for sure. The land becomes so valuable that either another mall, unlikely but possible or yet another high rise condo block but with the current poor returns on such developments maybe not.

Jomtien to Pattaya by Seaside - Pics
gunzel3808 replied to Idefix's topic in Pictorial Travel Reports
Thanks for the photos and info, Idefix. I haven't been to Jomtien for years. I suppose I was put-off by all the Ruskies, lack of the amenities Pattaya has to offer and general rundown nature of the place. But the view from the beach along the tide way is very different and worth another look I think. Thank you. -
It all looks so clean & tidy & as stated, lacking in customers. Very un-Thai.

Central Marina
gunzel3808 replied to InternationalTraveler's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
The number of Central shopping plazas is somewhat confusing. -
I have not used TCs for decades, preferring cash advances from bank accounts and credit cards, however, with bank charges now running at rip-off rates I have resumed taking cash and also loading cash in a joint account with the wifey that we have in Thailand.

A few photos of the Royal Thai Air Force Museum, Bangkok
gunzel3808 replied to firth1974's topic in Pictorial Travel Reports
Thanks for the photos & they certainly had a very interesting collection, though by now a lot of these would have been badly damaged as most of this area was under at least a metre or more of water! Oh dear. The prop jobs were in big use between the mid 60s till the end of the Vietnam War, operating out of bases in Nakhon Phanom, Udon Thani, Ubon Ratchathani. Skyraiders, T-28s, U-17s, DC3s, Harvards, C-123s,OV-10s, O-1 Bird Dogs, plus the jets - T-105s, F-4s, A-7s, and all the rest of the fleet, some like the B-52s are still earning their keep! Love em all. Anybody intereste -
I was told by Liam Morrison's wife, who used to work as a receptionist/bookkeeper for the Heavens Above owner, that he spent a number of years in Australia, playing his blues music. I guess it was somewhere between 1984 & the late 90s. His wife is pretty cute - but totally unavailable for mongers!

I went to the Blues Factory many, many times in 2007, when I was in Thailand for five months. I stayed many days at the small hotel above Heaven Above (also owned by them) & the very cute receptionist working there at that time was (& probably still is) married to Lam Morrison. So she got me interested in going & I became a fan of Lam. And she is one hell of a cute babe - Lam has great taste in women! Apparently, he lived in Australia for a number of years & I think that is where he refined his blues guitar style. Every time I visit Pattaya I always visit the Blues Factory

Cobras MC gang. Looking for trouble?
gunzel3808 replied to rob270's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Biker gang members are just criminals & cowards. They are only ever menacing when they have their colours on & they are in a group. In Australia, various governments are starting to get their act together to legislate them out of existence. So far they have made a few errors in writing the laws, but eventually they will get it right then we can get rid of these scum. They like to call themselves the 1%centers. Yes, they have an IQ = 1%! -
Yes & what does it have to do with Thaialand. She ain't brown - she's a whitey. Leave off!

Aussies go to Bali - because of the shit load of advertising pushing the cheap flights. Though there is going to be a temporary fall-off now with the volcanoes kicking up a stink again. Another thing about Aussies is that once they go for a holiday overseas (or anywhere for that) and they like it and they see a few other Aussies there, then they will go there year-in, year-out until either they die, get killed or somebody suggests a better place. IT'S AS SIMPLE AS THAT. A few years ago when JetStar kicked off some of the regular Bali trippers thought . . 'oh, let's try this new

Hammer, looking at the last photo - it definately looks like you had a great night. Congrats and all the best for you and the bar. I will catch up with you again on my next visit to Fun Town, whenever that is. Cheers.

The Airport Skytrain is going to be far more useful than any of the readers here can guess. I would suggest everybody when next in town make use of it and see the real value of it. Don't knock until you have tried it. If everything new was so rubbished the world & society would never progress. How about some good, positive aspects of Bangkok and Thailand. Remember, its not all about bars and the next barfine!

This is a totally new line with a different rail system and carriages. Unlike the existing BTS system it is powered by an overhead feeder whereas the existing system is feed by a third rail current at ground level, like what happens in the UK and many other US & European electric subway systems. Therefore, it cannot be connected up with all the other BTS routes. A real alternative to the spiv Bangkok cabbies! Most of whom are shit-for-brains. A small correction - by 'ground level' I mean track level of course, as the track is certainly not at ground level, being about 3
