  1. Ye, have to agree the article is not very clear. It should read before it was revised. The upshot is they are reducing the economy allowance back down to 20KG per person for non-status passengers, for tickets purchased from 1st February. Regards Fireman Sam
  2. For any board members that travel with Emirates, tickets purchased from 1st February will only get 20kg allowance in economy class. http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/e...-01-24-1.346282 Regards Fireman Sam
  3. Dave's GB bar, the original one on beach road. Wee Andy's, bottom of soi 2 beach road end. The Wild Elephant, top of soi post office second road end. Also Spinneys supermarket, bottom of soi post office beach road end. Mind you, wasn't yesterday that they were all there, nothing stays the same for ever !!!!! (Reason for edit), Also the big Marine bar in its hey-day, when it was the only place for freelancers. Regards Fireman Sam
  4. I get my sleeping pills for flying from our family doctor in Nakhon Phanom. He knows I fly quite a lot and has no problem prescribing them for me. Not sure what is in them but they work great, gives me two pills one to get me to sleep and the other to keep me asleep. Last flight to Dubai I took them about twenty minutes before boarding. I remember getting to my seat sitting down and getting comfortable, next thing I'm being woken as we are landing in Dubai, great didn't even feel the plane taking off from Bangkok. Fantastic way to travel, sure beats staying awake. Never a sore he
  5. Not quite the same, but just booked Etihad for £448.00 direct on their website. Same flights were on Netflights.com, but I could not complete the booking due to some hitch on their website. Depart 14th March, LHR 20.40 - 07.40 AUH - 09.15-18.15 BKK Return 1st April, BKK 08.35 - 12.05 AUH - 13.30 -18.15 LHR First time on Etihad for myself hope they are okay, seem to get good write up's. Been with Emirates for some years now and am Gold with them, but starting to price themselves out of the running now, also some negative changes to their frequent flyer program last year. Pro
  6. Thankfully them, don't fancy that much !!!! Regards Fireman Sam
  7. Looks like it happens to all of them. Incident: TAAG B772 at Luanda on Dec 23rd 2010, engine shut down in flight By Simon Hradecky, created Friday, Dec 24th 2010 14:31Z, last updated Friday, Dec 24th 2010 14:31Z A TAAG Angola Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration D2-TEE performing flight DT-550 from Luanda (Angola) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates) with 32 passengers and 13 crew, was climbing through 2500 feet out of Luanda when the right hand engine (GE90) emitted a loud bang followed by an engine fire indication. The crew shut the engine down and returned to Luanda for a safe landi
  8. I fly Dubai - Bangkok with Emirates all the time, never seen them spraying the cabin yet. Maybe depends on depature and destination. Regards Fireman Sam
  9. I'm with you on this one surry, always my preferred place to stay when in Pattaya. I like this end of town. Treated us to the Ruen Thai Bungalows earlier this year. Always recommend this place to people. Breakfast is reasonable as well IMHO.
  10. Is it the Woraburi, can't remember if it's on the left or right though ?? http://www.woraburi.com/ Just a thought.
  11. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-a...x-1225949640037 Doesn't look like they have much faith in Thai workers or the Airport in general. Always seemed okay to me, better than Dubai that's for sure. Best Regards Fireman Sam
  12. Have a look at the Sabai Resort up on second road, the old weekender hotel. IMHO a better hotel with a range of room types. I prefer the Ruen Thai bungalows in the resort, nice and quiet and reasonably private. Always stay there when in Pattaya. Just my two bahts worth. Regards Fireman Sam
  13. Nakhon Phanom town itself has no problem with flooding at present. I think the problem is down around Korat area, where the bus normally stops for a food break. The week long Nakhon Phanom boat festival is finishing on Sunday 24th, all the flights and buses are booked solid with everybody returning to their jobs in Bangkok etc etc, for at least the next 3-4 days. Maybe then she will be able to get a seat on the bus. Or she could get the local bus to Udon (5-1/2) hours then jump on a bus from there, rather her than me though !! Best Regards Fireman Sam
  14. I have over twenty years in the UK fire service wholetime and done loads of inspections for the service in all sorts of premise. I am a partner in a Health and Safety company (part-time) doing Fire Risk Assessments along with many other types of work. I have yet to see what I would class a safe building in Thailand, I include the few 4-5 star hotels in Bangkok that I have stayed in, in that statement. The building standards relating to fire are just not adequate, even when the premise is in full compliance with Thai building standards. If at all possible I always stay in a low rise
  15. Glad somebody thinks so !!!! 5555555555555 No seriously I need to get a life rather than reading shit like this on the internet. Glad it has helped some boardies out, this is what these boards should be about. Picked up many good tips on Thai related boards myself. Remember the trip report Tom !!! Best Regards Fireman Sam
  16. For anybody that uses Qatar Airways good news !! http://www.travelhouseuk.co.uk/news/index....hts-to-bangkok/ Sorry if it has been covered before. Best Regards Fireman Sam
  17. Pretty much spot on GBO, one of my American mates from That Phanom died a few weeks back and his wife reckoned she spent about 150,000 baht on the funeral. Money that she now certainly can't afford. I think the cheapest way to get round this is to leave the body in the temple, and then cremate as quickly as possible. Stops most of the hanger on's cleaning your house out of anything edible. As you say not cheap to died up country, but then again where is these days. Best Regards Fireman Sam
  18. Used the train for the second time about ten days ago, I had to get to the Mo-chit area of Bangkok. Got on the so-called slow train from Swampy to Phaya Thai for 15 baht, then walked across the now completed bridge to the Skytrain, then 30 baht on there to Mo-chit. So all in 45 baht from Swampy to Mo-chit, not too bad price wise I think. The 15 baht fare is running until the end of this year I think. I was travelling with hand luggage and one small suitcase, no problem at all for myself. Great service!! Best Regards Fireman Sam
  19. Who cares !!!!!!!!! Best Regards Fireman Sam
  20. I used it a few months ago when it first opened for the free trials. Here is the link to what I posted below. http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/index.ph...l=airport+train Note that the express service will run to Makkasan instead of Phaya Thai. I believe that the bridge between the Airport train and the Skytrain station at Phaya Thai is now under construction. I will be using it again in a few weeks, I always travel light so it is ideal for myself, I have to stay in the Don Maung area, so i will take the train to Phaya Thai and then transfer to the Skytrain. Best Regards
  21. Stayed there when it first opened about 5 years ago, first class then, no problem with bringing ladies back. Great location, I like that end of town. Restuarant was just getting going then, but reasonably priced with good fare. The owners daughter used to present some Thai Video Rock shows on TV. Watch out for (yoda the dog) if he is still alive. Regards Fireman Sam
  22. atlas2 'wrote' Also increasing from £20.00 to £25.00 in the latest round of increases. Regards Fireman Sam
  23. Looks like it will happen sometime in the future !! Good news for any of you guys that fly Emirates from there. http://www.arabiansupplychain.com/article-...ates-airline/4/ A few days old, but just came across it. Regards Fireman Sam
  24. Hi, I am also Gold with Emirates and had plenty of free upgrades on the Dubai-Bangkok leg, just never on the A380. Looking at manage my booking today it is showing that there is upgrade availability on the A380 for my September flight. Might treat myself and book it, although the last two trips this year the A380 has been replaced with a 777 once and cancelled completely the other time. Hopefully my luck will change for the better. Regards Fireman Sam
