  1. Prozac doesn't cure depression, it is just a drug that masks the symptoms. The best cure for depression is finding the cause of it. There are events/reasons that cause depression, usually something that has happened previously. Counselling often helps - being able to talk to someone about the cause of the problems. Do a bit of reading, on the subject.... it helps, it help me understand the causes of my episodes of depression. Now when things happen I can react to the cause.
  2. Basically the airlines think fuel efficiency (i.e. saving money) is more important than peoples health. That's why smoking was banned on planes, so they didn't have to draw in as much air from outside. Recirculating air more actually increases the risk to peoples health. HEPA filters don't stop everything. Yes, they can stop particulates, but if something is small enough, it will get through. How many times do you seem to get a cold after a long distance flight? Where do you think you caught it???? ........ on the plane!!
  3. I used to be prescribed Prozac by my doctor, but actually found the side effects of the drug actually made things worse for me. I stopped taking the stuff 4 years ago and feel much better for myself for being off it.. Thailand is now the only drug I need to stop me sliding into depression again. Yes, it's a rollercoaster ride - but it's worth it!!!
  4. I'm like you...... had biz class "free" upgrades on 3 out of 4 of my recent Emirates return flights - one was on a "economy" reward ticket as well!!!! Another reward flight is about to be booked..... and I am just waiting the ok to book my next freebie trip..... 2 weeks ago arrived to check in 3.5 hours before the flight and they upgraded me at check-in - so you don't always have to check-in lateish to stand a good chance of upgrades.... Middle of May sounds good for my next trip....... bonus time...... and it will also mean I'll have got to spend 3 months out of 6 months in Thailand.... I love working for a company that allows me to take such long breaks with full pay... And I think I'll visit some estate agents this next trip......
  5. We are now nearly a quarter of the way through 2009, and Boeings orders for the year are showing a net total of -10 because of cancellations. and up until the end of February Airbus was showing a net total of -8. But an order for 2 A380 is a sign there is still a market for the A380. The net figures are a good illustation of the global economic meltdown.
  6. Scally.... when something new is developed there is a chance problems will be encountered. Just look at the problems Boeing has been having with the Nightmareliner program. Manufacturers and end users learn to how to tweak things, users learn how to maintain them properly, learn how to rectify problems as they happen. They learn how to predict when failures might happen..... MTBF/MTTF (Mean Time Before Failure and Mean Time To Failure) figures can be developed and operating schedules and maintainamce schedules adapted over time. In the real world nobody expects 100% reliabilty......... but it is nice to achieve as close to it as possible. Nobody has cancelled orders for the A380, but it is understandable about defering deliveries. As airlines cut frequencies on some routes the A380 offers them the option of offering the same capacity with fewer flights. For example why have a 2x daily A330 service when an single daily A380 service might be a more cost effective solution.
  7. Boeing have already had 32 cancellations for the Nightmareliner since the start of the year..... Not a good start to the year for Boeing!
  8. Same as always, Boeing trying to blame their problems on anybody but themselves. They decided to the outsourcing route....... it's their fault it hasn't paid off.
  9. Well, what do expect booking next trip day after you got back!!!! Should have looked around........ you could have had Emirates from MAN for £530, if you had been quick enough.
  10. OOPs, Sorry..... didn't notice that you wanted BKK-LHR-BKK
  11. If you use the Emirates website, Emirates are doing BKK flights from £497 providing you book before 15th January. BHX £497 rtn MAN £532 rtn NCL £535 rtn GLA £548 rtn LHR £506 rtn LGW £497 rtn I inputed your dates and it came back with a quote of £508.10. If you hurry you can push the boat out!!!!
  12. Planning a trip to New Zealand and Australia with my daughter this year. On the outbound leg we will get to travel on a A380 Dubai to Sydney/Auckland..... The trip will be Manchester to Auckland with a 10 day stopover in Sydney outbound ( so we can visit relatives in Australia), 10 days in Auckland to visit more relatives, and then fly back via Bangkok with a 10 day stopover in Thailand. And we can do it all on one ticket with Emirates. Now this is a trip I am really looking forward to!
  13. Scallywally's predictions are on a par with BigD's Last week watched Emirates A6-EDB taking off from Dubai, looked impressive
  14. English puss doesn't have any virtue......... so there would be nothing to debate!
  15. Damn..... your 2 days too late for me.... And we could have had such a wonderful conversation about Boeing V Airbus on our way down......
  16. And guess what? Delays have just announced with the 777F program as well... And Scally - you forgot to mention that from the same blog that the first of the second wave of A380 production has flown... At least Airbus are managing to deliver planes..... 737 deliveries have been halted because of Quality Control issues with the non-conforming nutplates. According to Boeing, 737s delivered to customers since August 2007 contained non-conforming nutplates. Boeing's delivery website says that 394 737s were delivered between August 2007 and October 2008. What's that??? 394 faulty 737 delivered!!!!!! OOOOPS!!!!!!!!! Is there any Quality Control at Boeing???? That means 394 planes delivered with substandard components. Why did it take so long before they found out about the nutplates being used weren't up to spec.
  17. OH DEAR!!!!!......More bad news from Boeing!!! And apparently one of 747-8i orders has been cancelled. One of the VIP customers for Boeing Business Jets has pulled out the the deal. Boeing are not having a very good time at the moment??? more 787 delays..... 737s delivered with faulty fasteners and now 747-8 delays
  18. In July a falang died in the room opposite mine, his body went undiscovered for 5 days. It gave my other half the creeps and we ended up moving apartment blocks.
  19. As more and more news comes out about the fastener problem it has been found on all the Nightmareliner airfames in Everett, so it is not an isolated incident. Apparently the holes where the fasteners are used have not been prepared properly. It has happened where the titanium parts have been drilled and but not deburred, and the fasteners aren't sitting in the holes properly. Deburring a hole is a basic engineering skill...... so why has it not been done? Are Boeing engineers and it's suppliers under such pressure to deliver the product to a totally unrealistic timescale that errors in construction are being made? And why has it taken so long for this problem to surface? It looks like Boeings Quality control procedures are failing. There are 6 airframes in Everett all with the same problem. This will delay the Nightmareliner even more. But one thing is for sure - the 787 won't fly this year.
  20. Oh dear - it's not just rumours anymore........ Boeing has admitted that 737s have recently been built and delivered with substandard "nutplates". Looks as though Boeing is having a lot of trouble with quality control during assembly. And it's not just 1 or 2 parts, it is a large numbers of installed fasteners and installed nutplates. These things should have been picked up during assembly not later on.
  21. Why has it gone quiet? Because the anti-Airbus three stooges haven't had anything to brag about how well Boeing is doing.
  22. Where's the 3 stooges..... they've gone awfully quiet..... Wonder if the following has anything to do with it? It really is turning into a Nightmareliner for Boeing... And add on to that there are rumours of poor quality control on fasteners used on other Boeing products....
  23. Cheers.... might put some business your way soon.
  24. I always get to the airport in time for check-in opening, even though as a frequent flyer I get priority check in.... In these days of increased security at airports it makes sense...
