On the right hand side of 2nd road (in the direction of traffic) between soi 6 and 7, next to the tourist police station.

 

Almost across the street from where you enter to the Tropicana.

 

It's hard to see as they don't have a big sign. I found it by looking for the tourist police station.

Its right beside that very big, bright, fancy and empty beer bar complex on 2nd Road.

Has a pool table out front.

Main advantage is its a 2-minute walk to the delights of soi 6.

Owner is Pete from Oz, a nice guy.

Nice size room

Cold AC

room safe

nice tv and fridge

friendly staff

24 hour internet

 

Negatives:

Hard beds

small bathroom

2 flights of stairs

Hey sinkorswim ie all,

 

Here is my report on the place. From July this year.

 

 

Forget about the small room guys, it`s just that... Really small and the toilet is extremely narrow + the room does not have any window.

In the reception area they have an 24 hour ADSL internet shop at 1 bath a minut ( minmum 10 bath ) and the connection is great. Works out great when you stagger home at 0500 drunk as a skund and decided that you want to post some shit on the net

 

There is also a foot massage parlour connected to the hotel but as I never got the chance to use that service I can`t comment.

 

Their cable tv is massive, not the tv but the cable. I think I must have had over 60 channels

Air con worked just fine and it`s up 2 you if you want to turn it off when you leave the room ( although there is a note saying that you please turn it off )

The room was ofcourse cleaned every day to my satisfaction, but here is the great part : if you like to sleep in a bit late there is no problem having them come and clean your room at at 8 pm

 

But most important guys.... It`s a 30 seconds walk to soi 6

 

A few notes :

 

No pool

Pooltable outside ( 10 bath a game )

Laundry service

Locaded next door to the Tourist police ( real nice guys btw )

7/11 just around the corner aswell as an ATM machine.

Large fridge ( mini bar on request )

Kitchen facilities ( only in big rooms )

Great post Mats. Much appreciated. I'm getting a bit worried as i will be staying in a small room for 10 days. I might end up going crazy without a window. I will be sure to report the small room experience upon my return.

I stayed there last year - Its OK for the money, but the extra you pay for one of the larger Soi7/8 is worth it. Mind you over Christmas/New Years things are different.

I stayed at Skytop between October 22nd and November 22nd and will be here again, this time for two months from March 12th on. I concur, that Pete is a nice guy. The Internet Cafe is handy. In fact, esential to me. And that large lit up bar next door is very convenient.

Roy, sorry for late reply...it wasn't.

 

I didn't take her up on it as I had just arrived and wanted to get across the road to soi6 to see a proven performer with great attitude.

 

Maid turned out to be a bit of a limpet, always interrogating me with "where you go? I go wit you." This wore thin quite quickly so I changed digs after a coupla days.

 

Don't know if she's still there.

I have read some of the reviews on the guesthouse Skytop in Pattaya. I was surprised to find minor negative comments as the place is as good as any to stay in for that price range. First I laughed about the comment on toilet/shower size and you have to remember these places were built by thais who in general are a normally short and not as "well built" as us farangs, therefore what we take as small is normal or big to them. Then the comment about the safe for in room, well the same happened to me in such as I asked for one and was told by reception that she would talk to owner. He got back to me quickly and said he did not have a spare one but will go and buy one that day - and blow me down he did. To the guy that complained about one of the bargirls out front with the music - who do you think you are. How would you like it if someone came into your home and took your tv control off you - not happy I bet. Anyway you will be happy to know that one lady got sacked because of her attitude to a customer so it possibly was your friend, but then again she wasnt your friend maybe she rejected your approach earlier. I am happy with Skytop, the rooms have all you need and Pete says he is looking into providing in room internet use for us who have laptops. Staff friendly. great location and rooms cleaned daily, what more do we want.

magpie, I can't agree with your first point.

I like Pete the owner of Skytop but I'm not impressed at 450 a night, frankly.

Apex is better as it has a pool and brighter rooms for the same price.

V&M Terrace on soi Buakhow at 400 is better as rooms are bigger, brighter and there's a pool and nicer outside bar and brekkie.

Intown Holiday at 500/night if you stay 2 weeks is way, way better for an extra

$1.50/80p a night.

I hadn't realized that the scientific world had been successful in cloning a human. The Skytop looks decent for the price. I wouldn't stay there because the toilet area appears way too small and I also like a balcony for fresh air, light and to dry cloths and towels. If you look around you can find more room for the baht especially if you staying for 3 weeks or more. Take a look at OnMYWay post. He's staying for 8K a month and the Metro nearby is 9K a month with free use of pool tables and free use of computer. I believe these places have a daily rate of 400 baht so still less than Skytop.

 

Myself, I stay at a place larger and newer that cost 7,500 a month which equates to 250 a day. Plus utilities which averages about another 30 baht a day. They only clean the place once every 2 weeks, however TGF keeps the place spotless.

if you really want to watch your budget, keeping it for essentials , you can get a month at V&M Terrace for 6700 +utils =7500/month.

Lots of value around if you go a little of the well-worn track.

Remember, there's always parking at the mall if you're willing to walk 200 feet while the yokels drive around in circles.

The date on that one, with Magpie posting positive points about Skytop just happens to coincide with my staying there as I had arrived back in Pattaya on August 3, 2005 this time to stay. As I recall I remember getting on this board (from my room at Skytop) and reporting to Pete about some negative comments that we both felt were unfair. In fact, at the time, Pete was not regularly coming into this forum and it was I who strongly urged that he should. However, I do not remember Pete telling me anything about his posing as a satisfied custome.

 

However, the things said here are true. That is he had one woman employee in particular who was rude to customers and he had sacked her around this date or a little before. Furthermore I had always obtained an in room safe from him, and I do remember his going out to buy another one since he didn't have a single one left to give a customer. Lastly, at that time I was one of two guys who had gotten laptop access in our rooms. The other man was a good friend of mine. I bought one wireless access point from Tuc com. My friend had given Pete the first access point which we had placed on the ground level of the old Skytop. My friend who was staying one floor below me got a good strong signal to his laptop whereas mine was marginal as I was on the top floor. So I moved the downstairs access point into Pete's old massage room on the 2nd level and that was enough to make my signal strong enough to consistently do the job. Meanwhile I had a separate arrangement with Pete for the unlimited in room internet access we had agreed to.

 

As for Pete coming in here as Magpie as a satisfied customer, well. you just gotta know Pete. First, I really don't think he's active in a single Internet forum or news group. So he's not really onto the normal standards of decorum, and is therefore apt not to follow the rules to the absolute letter. Also, I will jokingly refer to Pete as the Australian leprechaun because he's quite the practical joker so he's not likely to take himself very seriously while posing as a satisfied customer. So yeah, one might contend it's not cricket to pose as a satisfied customer while actually being the owner of a guesthouse. On the other hand everything Pete posted was true if I remember correctly. His comments were in response to what I felt were some very unfair comments made about Skytop, just one example being that the Irishman who had stabbed to death the owner of the Jimmie Bar had been a resident of Skytop and that this is what could be expected of Pete's typical customers. I was appalled at that comment in particular and told Pete so. And as a matter of fact I can just imagine a couple of Pete's Aussie pals, (one of whom met me while I was staying at Skytop, then bought a condo at Wongamat Residence right after I bought mine) laughing uproariously over Pete's posts as Magpie. They are a fun loving, off the wall group and a lot of fun to be around who simply aren't the types to be crossing their T's and dotting their I's.

To refresh your memory somewhat, the comment about the murderer were in response to your own comments about SkyTops high quality customers ............. At no point whatsoever was it claimed that it was what could be expected from SkyTop's typical customers. Did you just maKe that bit up to try and add some credibility to your post.

 

Anyway, the owner's comments were not in response to those comments at all but in response to a post made by BigD where he moaned about an altercation he had with one of the staff over a remote handset. See above.

For a guy who never bothered to stop by and look at a room in the old or new Sky-Top you certainly go on and on about this place. Matter of fact this is the only hotel/guesthouse you go after. I wonder why?

 

Pete runs a quality business, good customer service and no bullshit with the bill and you seem to take great pleasure in pissing on him at every opportunity.
