Hi,

It's quite safe as long as you use your commonsense. Most of these incidents involve people who live in Pattaya and usually there is some reasons behind them. When you are in and out on holiday you are unlikely to upset anyone and should have a great time. :D :bj2 :bj1 :chogdee2

There is good and bad in every city.

if you asked a 1000 members living here or been here on holidays have they seen anything bad happen,it would be a small percentage to say yes, including me and i been coming for 18 yrs and now live here.

you see more getting killed riding the big bikes around half pissed or showing off

if you are worried get a hotel close to the action

I have made about 10 trips and feel it's about the safest place I can go.

And the "common sense" required isn't very much.

. Don't pass out drunk on beach rd at 4 AM and expect to wake up with your wallet.

. Don't try and start bar fights.

Assuming you are not the type to have the above type issues, the only problem you might encounter is the occasional minor theft/scam stuff (I never have, but others on this board have).

Enjoy you'r trip :bhappy

Jimmy,

There's no need to worry.

They sell bullet proof vests in the market with a 100% guarantee. If they don't work you get a full refund. :bhappy

Dear Jimmy2006

New Years Eve, LONDON, ENGLAND.

London Ambulance Service reported 38 stabbings, in one hour.

Visit the bbc website and visit all the regional news sites.

The only SAFE place is in your living room.

You wanna LIVE - then gotta take a risk :chogdee2

The odds are you will probably die from HIV from unprotected sex in Pattaya than get stabbed or shot while visiting short time there (unless of course you are dumb enough to walk around showing a wad of money with 20 gold chains around your neck at 3am along the beach)

I guess you are taking risks anywhere in the world when you go out pissed and stagger back.

However I have noticed over the last few weeks there seems to be bit of an increase in crime against farangs in Pattaya in the media.

If this is true, I wonder what the motive could be for such an increase.

I feel safer here than in many places in the US. This last incident happened 4 in the morning I think the odds of being involved in some sort of crime or other mishap go up this time of the day. Like any other place a little common sense goes a long way.

I think Pattaya gets bad press all the time, there really is much more here than wine woman and song.

Mr. Corbett,

I read your Little Angel story. Kept waiting for the part where you actually did something to repay this girl's kindness and never saw it. I could be wrong, but from your tale all I see is a sad and sorry excuse of an individual who if isn't an alcoholic already, certainly is borderline. Binge drinking, blackouts, standing people up for meetings, classic examples. First time you did a no-show I could put down as a true misunderstanding, but the rest of it is a shame. People like you give Farangs a bad name. It's no wonder some Thai's don't give a shit about ripping off or killing foreigners.

If I am wrong and you did repay her in a way other than a cheap photo then I apologise.

The camera is a Nikon D-1 X. Considering its extremely high cost and that it is a completely professional camera there is no such thing as a cheap photo coming out of this camera. Furthermore I was going to get the girl a 20 by 30 inch photo which would have been done for me by Kodak out of the U.S. costing me with shipping over $30.00. Although I gave the Little Angel several 5 by 7 pictures and one 8 by 10 inch picture, I was unable to get the 20 by 30 inch picture to her. The reason is she disappeared from where she was staying, and although she told me the name of a Soi 6 Bar I was unable to find her there.

I did not blackout from drinking too much. I was very tired and made the mistake of lying down in one of those beach recliners where I PASSED OUT. And where do you come up with my missing meetings? I made a date with the waitress to meet me on the beach. She misunderstood me because her English was atrocious. She couldn't meet me on the beach because she was working at Greg's restaurant at that time. As for my "somehow losing my key", I was doing a three mile run on the beach when the key wore a hole in my front front pants pocket and fell out. When I found I was locked out of Skytop and was unable to call anyone because I did not have my cell phone on me, I decided short of getting a room elsewhere my best recourse was to bite the bullet, have a great time, and drink until the place closed.

If you read my story more closely you would have seen that I took the little angel out to lunch on two occasions. I never did ask sex from this girl nor did I receive any.

As for my drinking, at 59 I am just three pounds heavier than what I weighed as a College Sophomore earning my letter on the Varsity Cross Country team. So the alcholism you have diagnosed me as having is not quite as bad as your initial diagnosis Herr Doctor. If it were I'd be quite a bit heavier than my 168 pounds.

The reason Herr Doctor that I am being so defensive in this post is that I somehow detect you have some very fine credentials under your belt that qualifies you to call either me or anybody else in this forum a sad and sorry excuse as an individual and as the kind of man who gives falang a bad name. Hey, Sammy, from early childhood I was a Christian. Would you please provide me with as many details about yourself so that I can switch religions. I might call it Sammyism and with luck perhaps I can convince some of the other members here into forming a cult to worship YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

So you purposely bought this camera only for the specific idea of taking photo's of this girl? If so, then yes your gifts would have been expensive. However, if you had purchased the camera for your own enjoyment and taking pictures of her was just part of a hobby/profession your total contribution for someone who potentially saved your life was around US$100. Rather impressive.

Nowhere in your story does it say you were very tired. Just that you had been drinking a lot. Unlike an early childhood Christian like yourself who obviously has divine powers, I cannot pretend to know what you were feeling other than from what you wrote.

I was having drinks in a nearby bar I frequent often–no, I was having a lot of drinks, when one of the bar girls informed me that it was after 3 a.m. The girl and I both knew I was locked out. I could have stayed in an upstairs room at low cost, but felt I wouldn’t be able to sleep well if at all, so I took the path of least resistance and just kept drinking. After all the bar girls went upstairs I still continued to sip my beer while talking to the mamas an.

By now it must have been after 5 a.m. so I decided to take a long walk  hoping that I would find a restaurant. I had not eaten dinner for one thing and I could drink coffee to come to my senses. So I walked down to Beach Road, and that’s when I lost track of what happened next.

I found myself sprawled out on a lawn chair down on the beach.

Being overweight and being an alcoholic has what correlation? Lots of alcoholics are skinny, lots are fat. You run every day or almost everyday and are only 3 pounds over your college sophomore weight. Excellent. Wish I could say the same. My best friend who is an alcoholic has a similar running regimen as you. At 172 pounds he is 2 pounds less than what he weighed as a high school senior. He is still an alcoholic.

I never professed to be a doctor. Nor to wanting a cult of SAMMYISM. Is that the same as Dogbertism? My comments were in reflection to a story YOU wrote.

Maybe you should get off your Christian high horse or are you like many other wonderful Christians from the USA like Jim Bakker etal?

I've got to say Sammy that comparing Jack to people like Jim Bakker is hilarious. It shows how little you know about him and how willing you are to go off on him despite that ignorance.

Many years ago Jack rented a nuns outfit, put a stripper in it had her sit on the toilet holding a bottle of booze. He photographed this scene, not for the church monthly, but to put on a T-shirt (which I still have) celebrating a get together a group of us had one summer in his area.

Just think of the most reverent person you know and Jack is equally irrevererant.

jtiger,

You are right. I don't know Jack Corbett. I read a story he wrote. I commented on it as to how it read to me. I was not being sanctimonious. Jack in his response to me brought up the whole Christian and religious aspect wanting to compare Christian credentials.

Would you please provide me with as many details about yourself so that I can switch religions. .

Now you weigh in that he is "irreverant." Putting a stripper in a nun's outfit holding a bottle of booze, hey I bet that would win high marks from his Pastor, Priest or Reverend.

So which is he? The Christian do-gooder? Or quite the opposite?

You will also note that in my first post that in my last paragraph I apologised if I was wrong. Was I? I don't think so.

Sammy, I can assure that you are wrong. I wasn't there for this incident but I did some to town shortly afterwards and I witnessed Jack trying to communicate with this lady (and I tried myself). You get used to the fact that you can communicate in English and "phrasebook thai" with the people of Thailand.. but it turns out not with this girl. Her English was so limited that there was almost zero communication going on. This coupled with the fact that she was supposed to be doing her job and not talking with customers made it hard to even get a chance to talk to her.

Jack did try repeatedly to create a situation where they could talk outside of work using dictionaries but I don't think he ever found her after she was let go at her job.

He's gone way out of his way in the past when it comes to making things right. We once went to a gogo with a couple of girls we barfined (these girls had never been to the nearby gogo and we were not looking for any company at the hotel since we already had plans for that time, so we told the girls that we'd barfine them and take them to the gogo to continue drinking but that was it and they were fine with that).

At the gogo we're drinking and a dancer comes over and starts messing around with Jack and he with her. She's one of his favorites in Pattaya. This upset Jack's barfine and she left (unfortunately taking my date with her).

Jack felt bad about this and got her a gift and for the next three days he carried this gift with him hoping to run into her as we prowled all over Pattaya doing our usual thing. Every place we stopped the girls would take the gift out of the bag and ask if it was for them but Jack would have to tell them no. After 3 days we did find his date that previous evening at her bar and the gift was delivered and she was more than forgiving.

All this was done for a girl he had only known for a hour and he had only barfined to give a chance to see the inside of a nearby gogo. Is this the kind of person who gives falangs a bad name Sammy? Tell us all some of the things you've done to give Falangs a good name.

If theres' any lesson for you Sammy it's to realize that if you don't know all the facts then it's best to not jump to conclusions. If details are missing then fill them in with good things and not bad things.

Sammy....Please eludify the board here on what what makes you terrfic. Were you a war hero in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc? Were you a major cog in what made the U.S. get into Vietnam big time? The whole planet is panting, is in the middle of an orgasm to know what makes you so special that you can post the things you have been posting.

:D common sense goes a long way, keep your wits about you and you,ll not go far wrong :cry2

:D

It's the safer of a few destinations I've been too, and all the other's were in my own country. :bow You do have your risks, of course, kinda loaded question. If anywhere were 100% safe I would think it would be utopia. So really the choice is yours. :clap1

jtiger, Now you and Mr. Corbett are requesting that I supply a Curriculum Vitae of my good deeds? This has devolved into a religious debate rather than what the thread was about. Is Pattaya Safe? I read Mr. Corbett's story. To me, the way it was written, it appeared that Mr. Corbett was far more interested in getting drunk beyond functioning most nights than he was in attempting to give a nice young woman some decent reward for her goodness. I was commenting on the fact that through the story and link he posted that he was a sad and sorry individual and was one of the reasons that Farangs get a bad name and that crime against Farang's may be on the rise in Pattaya.

You claim otherwise. I will give your hypothesis due consideration.

Jack Corbett

The whole planet is panting, is in the middle of an orgasm to know what makes you so special

Written in the same style as one of your Dick Fitswell stories I see. I sincerely doubt the whole planet is anxiously awaiting to know why I am so special and I would ask all of the Board Members who read this that you and your TG's, BG's and loved ones, please continue on through your orgasm. I do not want to be the cause of some of you getting "blue balls" or worse. Hey, this a good deed by me. Makes me pretty special if the 5000 or so BM's read this, pass it on to their friends etc. I best add that to my CV.:bow :cry2
