Has anyone flown with EVA air in their Enchanced economy seats ? if so what are the advantages over normall economy seats, thinking about trying the enchanced seats but they are almost double the price of normall economy.

I plan to use them next trip.

 

A friend at work describes Elite class as business class (seats) with coach food.

 

For me the leg room is what I need.

On one trip i managed to get into the elite class for free, some guy i met at heathrow was visiting his sick brother near Pattaya. He told me he had upgraded to elite class as there were couple extra seats available, ten minutes into the flight he walked to the end of the plane and told me there was empty seat next to him.

 

Large comfortable seats and nice service, if the staff noticed or not i dont know but they didnt say anything. I would recommend it, if you have the money.

Definitely not elite or business class seats, but a lot better than economy. Much more leg room but the seats don't recline to the "almost flat" of business class. Also, you still have someone beside you in the middle seat and they will almost always wake you up if they have to leave their seats.

 

 

 

I've taken Eva's premium economy R/T NYC (Newark) to BKK . It was worth a few hundred extra bucks, but certainly not double the economy fare. However, Eva has the least intuitive and hardest-to-maneuver Website of any, with about 1,000 different ticket options depending on date, day of the week, etc. It can be very hard to get an accurate idea of what the cheapest ticket is.

 

 

 

In terms of the flight and service, I had no problems at all with Eva.

You are a bit off the mark here.

 

You are referring to Virgin's UPPER CLASS product, whose prices are aimed at other airlines' Business Class product.

In response to another post "Elite" is Evas premium economy brand name.

 

5" bigger seat seat pitch than economy but certainly no bar to sit at.Food now the same as economy.

Certainly not double the price of economy but from uk about £200 extra.

 

Seating is 2-4-2 across.

I just purchase delux/elite seating for my next trip to bkk on eva. I flew my last trip on them as well. the delux/elite is not comparable to any airlines business class. but for $200 more roundtrip it is worth the extra room to me. upside the seat is about 4 incehs wider than coach for most airlines. that means for me I am not sitting waist to waist with the passenger next to me. The downside the center armrests between the seats are about 4 inches across and hard plastic and fixed. Even if you have an empty seat next to you it is not going to do you any good. My last trip I had empty seat next to me for sfo-tpe and tpe-sfo. with the centere consoles there it did me no good. But the extra leg room is nice. I used to always fly united but they fucked me over so much the last couple of years that I have stopped flying them. The delux seat have about 3-4 inches more room than united premier seats. But on a united flight if the seat next to you is vacant you roll up the armrst and strech out.

IMO The EVA Elite class (Enhanced Economy) is now a poor product on the 777s which are in use from Heathrow. There are many posts that will back this up in this section if you do a search. If you are flying on a route where they still use the 747s then it is worth using. In the UK the price of the Elite rose significantly on introduction of the 777s on the route for a far more cramped and inferior service.

A much better option from the UK at the moment is the China Air upgrade, which costs slightly more, but you travel in the full Biz class cabin/seat and have use of Biz lounges. (Just a 20Kg baggage allowance tho'), or look around for other "Full Buisness Class" offers, which get close to EVAs Elite price.

The Elite seats are only available on London and Los Angeles routes. The other routes are still using the Evergreen Deluxe seating.

for those willing to spend the extra cash there is an option for business class. Phillipine airlines has a very inexpensive business class about 2300 us to manila. from there you can catch a cebu paicfic flight to bkk. For the christmas season when you face $US1700 -2300 for coach paying the $US2300 for business class for the long leg and then another $us100 for the short flight in coach makes sense to me and you can make a side trip to bkk while you are there.

If the information on flight searches is correct, EVA is planning to switch to 777's and Evergreen Elite for the SEA - TPE flights as well. I suspect the 747 that had been in service is being rotated out. In any event, it appears that the inferior upgrade of Elite (as opposed to Deluxe) is now going to be the order of the day from still yet another departure point.

I read EVA is converting all of their 747s to cargo. I flew Elite into and out of Bangkok. Loved the media center in the seat back. The larger seat and leg room was much appreciated. I felt more comfortable in the 747 though. The difference in price was less than $5 per hour in the air. I thought it was money well spent. Just looked at EVA for October from LAX to BKK. RT less than $1000 with 7500 EVA FF miles.

Yeah, Seattle departure for EVA Elite is running just over $1,000 for autumn (all in), but without the need to kick in 7,500 miles. It looks like I'm going to be on Northwest next month, though, as they sent me as discount coupon and if I go ahead and fly them, I'll be within spitting distance of a free first class flight on Cathay Pacific for my next trip over. From what I hear, while Northwest is always Northwest, the trek is a little more civilized on the newer Airbus 300's. God, let's hope so.

I know Northwest doesn't own any 300's -- I was abbreviating that it was in the Airbus 300-class of planes. The SEA / NRT / BKK routing is served specifically by A330-200's.

 

And yes, Northwest seems to polarize fliers like no other airline seems to be able to do. As I said, the miles will put me very close to a First Class freebie on Cathay Pacific, and that's too good to pass up. Once I cash that in, I'll probably be moving my allegiances to Star Alliance and using Thai or Singapore to get to LOS. Even with all of that being said, if it was still the old Northwest 747's with no personal video screens or power ports, I'd be putting my butt in another carrier's seats. I did the 747 version of the trip with Northwest once and that was more than enough for me.

They are still using the 747's on the Amsterdam-Bangkok route. Evergreen Deluxe much more comfortable than Elite. Same 38" seat pitch but wider seats and space at the rear to stand up from time to time if you wish without being in everyone's way. I have booked my last few trips on Eva's website costing 200 Euro more than economy. Well worth the extra IMO.

Yeah, I'm going to miss Deluxe instead of Elite. Shame when things that are working perfectly well and being enjoyed have to go the way of the dinosaur. Good that we've got Thai and a few others with their enhanced economy, even if they do go for a higher tariff than EVA.

To be fair to EVA, it was probably difficult to know quite where to pitch their Elite product, as there has been a huge improvement in their Economy seating on the 777.

Fair point, Jack. I've enjoyed coach seating on 777's in a handful of different airline designs. Like I wrote earlier, if nothing else, it's got me try new alternatives like Thai and Singapore, and there's nothing so wrong with giving them a few trips-worth of business.
