Is this the most expensive taxes/surcharge yet ??

Just received email from lazy vacation stating availability of seats in august at £530, plus a whopping £307 addition for tax/surcharges in an economy seat !! :nod ;)

THAI is probably close to or at the top of "extra" charges. The reason is that all fare rises have to be approved by the government at a formal cabinet meeting. That doesn't happen often, but several understandable reasons, so the airline puts on extra charges.

Also been looking at flights in August and with Westeast Travel they have Thai Airways

at £615.00 which is made up with the fare at just £305, but the TAX is a massive £310.

Amazing TAX price and just a sign of the difficult times we are in now.

That is because it isnt a tax ,it is a charge made up of varius charges ie security, airport charges etc but MAINLY it is a FUEL SURCHARGE that all airlines use these days,it makes the cost of a ticket sound less expensive when you first see it.

If oil went back down to $20 per barrel would these charges disapear again ? :moon I think not.

I read somewhere this week that a barrel of crude as dropped from $147 to $133, still double what it was this time last year but hopefully the worse is over, can we expect to see the fuel surcharges dropping if this is the case? don`t hold your breath on BA but I would hope that some of the foreign airlines take note

Bloomberg showing $129 for Brent spot...

BA are offering some good deals for Sept/Oct, the problem is you get BA service and Heathrow thrown in when they should be thrown out.

The price of a barrel of crude has now dropped to below $125 a barrel and oil companies claim a stabilisation of pricing.

Hopefully the worst may be over for now, partly because the demand for the product has clearly dropped.
