I am totally confused by how this works or what it is supposed to achieve :beer :D

I understand rules of Board and totally agree with them :D

I understand warning system (copped 2 myself ,1 totally deserved 1 borderline IMHO)

Yet I have noticed a numder of BM who seem to come back and back and back.

The only thing that changes is the Nickname :party

So if they are deemed to be counterproductive to the Board WHY are they allowed to continue to return???

Not only return ,But return in the full knowledge of Mods and MM himself (MM actually posting replys to these guys naming there previouse Nickname and giving them cautions)

So does Banned actually mean you have to come up with a NEW Nickname???

Would like to get others fair dinkum opinions, not character asasinations or personal slanging matches as I and many others have noticed an influx of this situation lately.

bruiser, you ask a good question. :thumbup

Here's my position. If it gets to the point that some poster/userid gets suspended (I don't use the BAN feature because it's a hassle, so a problem poster is just suspended from the board for a couple of decades instead), that userid is gone from the board.

I have suspended people for a short time, just to give them a vacation from the board, in the hopes that when they come back, they will be less disruptive on their return. It could be a week or a month, but seldom more. These are sometimes posters who are going through a rough time in their lives and lately feel the need to get attention by being a twat. They might have been good or humorous contributors in the past, but have gotten out of control. A vacation of a week or a month sometimes gives them a chance to reflect on what got them the short term suspension.

Now, for those who get the big kahuna, a 2 decade suspension -- that means that poster and that posting personality is gone. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the person making the posts. It's the culmination of a generally long period of being disruptive and argumentative with the board membership or the board admin (me) to the point where I say "Enough".

So, suppose someone comes back under another userid, and it's abundantly clear it's someone who has been suspended for long time before. I don't really care. I evaluate what the new userid is doing, not who the person was or how they behaved under a previous userid.

I try my best to detach the person from the poster. I am moderating the posts. If someone has been suspended before, and I know they have come back, I'm okay with that...until they start exhibiting the same behavior or some form of disruptive behavior again as a poster. Chances are, in that case, that the first warning will result in a long suspension.

I hope that helps clear up the situation on this board for you.

An excellent explanation and one of the reasons why I like this board so much compared to the others. :clueless I copped the banning a few years ago but was allowed back in. It certainly worked with me.

Nothing more to be said on the issue.

Thanks for that MM, very good and clear explanation, even for a Bogan like myself :clueless :thumbup

So does that mean my 2 warnings will be cleared ,or do they stay for ever as you intermated to me quite a while ago?

It would seem only FAIR ,But up to you and not that it really matters now,as I understand Banning/suspending system..

Look forward to catching up soon with you and all the staff

And checking out the Band with new lead guitar (Best Band in Patts IMHO, so should be even better now :clueless )

(I don't use the BAN feature because it's a hassle, so a problem poster is just suspended from the board for a couple of decades instead),

Are there more buttons to push to ban someone ??

I was under the impression forum owners dont Ban people as they dont want their "member" numbers to decline, in that respect people just get suspended/Mod watched etc etc.

I wanted to ask this myself. I wanted one to be gone, next thing you know. "They're Back!" (like in Poltergeist)

A banned member still counts as a member in the total count. Admin can delete a member and all their posts too, but that rarely happens because it messes up threads.

To ban someone, admin has to open the ACP (Admin Control Panel) and go to the Ban screen, add the member or the IP address.

To suspend someone, admin can do it from the offending post while reading the board. It's considerably easier and achieves the same result...no more posts from that userid.

And you will know them by their posts. Some suspended members start out reasonably. Some come out with a vengeance, laying into everyone left and right. The latter get suspended right away, the former are ok until they start it again.

Some, like Siam Sam, come back and are fine.

So being banned means that you get the chance to come back as somebody completely different but with the slate wiped clean...maybe not such a bad idea after all!

What a sickenly sycophantic reply!

Now I can see how you have managed to amass nearly 10,000 posts on this board, by keeping your nose clean...or brown in your case.

You do, but if you straight off start doing the same thing, you might get suspended again.

I know you, but can't make a positive identification...yet.

However, I will say that I am quite sure you've been here before, been suspended, and have come back.

You're not exactly keeping a low profile.

I'm just feeling my way around here fella, working out the ground rules.

In the meantime any advice you care to give me would be gratefully received....
