Will the English media ever learn

when will they learn to keep things in perspective, since the draw was made for the group stages of the W C, they have been coming out with all the usual crap about how well they will do in the tournament, as soon as the draw was made, they where at it , a couple of headlines read, "The best english group since the Beatles"

Slovenia

Yanks

 

Parry on talksport, had England into the semi finals, and he said, "with a little bit of luck we should make it to the final" this was even before a ball was kicked, now i am all for having a bit of belief in your team and hoping they can do well, but these guys just don't know where to draw the line, there arrogance and complete disregard for the teams they are facing is at times breathtaking, will they ever learn to give other teams the respect they deserve and stop under estimating every team the face.

Even during the abysmal borefest against Algeria. The English commentator was saying that it was possible to draw the first two games and win the competition He was in denial that the inept squad couldn't lace Argetinas or Brazils boots. It's probably better they go home before being humiliated by the first good team they meet. Let's hope they pick a decent manager next time. And maybe cap hungrier players.

It 'ain't all down to the Media- but they don't help !

 

The only two England players who seem to have any passion for representing their country, are David Beckham and John Terry. Both were made captain for this reason. The rest just seem to ' turn up ' for the match.

 

The media are cruelist when a mistake is made by the goalie, such as happened in the first game. He is playing for England mate- he needs a bit of support, not to be harassed by some overweight, nicotine stained fingered hack, who has spent months thinking up a headline for every eventuality, while sitting on his arse at a desk.

 

Yes critisize, by all means, but not humiliate.

 

Today's International football has moved on. Most of the Algerian team were born in and could play for France. By look of things, they would have played better than the French team did.

 

I remember Ian Botham being crusified by the Tabloids when he was caught smoking weed. A few weeks later, he took 8

W. Indian wickets and was a hero.

It's hard to say whether the media actually believe what they write though, stories sell, I see it no different to the media getting behind out troops in a war situation, stirring up some good old fashioned patriotism.

 

As for the perfomance, most England fans (that know something about football) know we are nowhere near teams like the skills of Argentina or even the cool proffesional composure of the Germany's, but after the way we qualified in a convincing manner, you would be forgiven for thinking we stand something of a chance of progressing to somewhere further than a group stage.

 

It's all gone tits up big style, but then I see teams like Germany losing as well and think, maybe it's something in the air, seems a strange World Cup all round so far.

 

I might have a bet on the Swiss to win it.

I still think England will qualify from that group, and progress farther in the tournament, how far who knows, they have the players to do it, but they must start playing as a team,

 

individualy they have some cracking players, but there is something missing, maybee thats down to Capello and what he's doing with them in training, but they certainly are a shadow of the team that qualified so convincingly.

Like Ian Darke or another UK commentator said during the ESPN WC broadcast yesterday,too bad the WC wasn't played in '09 instead for UK as they were in fine form then.

But it seems several WC teams have continued their qualifying quality,or lack thereof,into the WC,like FrOnce, Mexico,Holland,Brazil,ect.

I believe it is about 1 in 3 EPL players are available to play for England.

 

The vast majority of traveling English fans, are supporters of lower clubs ( notice the Brentfrord flag at the US game ? ) It is our money that pays the England teams expenses. Wayne Rooney has apologised for his remark about the reaction of the fans to the Algerian game- so he should.

 

Almost every W.C team has a player from the English leagues lower divisions too.

 

Brentford had Tom Smith, the Kiwi lad on loan for a few months. He was desperate to play football for us, rather than sit on a bench of a higher club where he would not be seen. He is a good old fashion defender, with just the touch of aggression you need. Knowing he was a possible W.C. player for N.Z, kept him on his toes. How many other teams had someone in the same situation? There can be some good come from foreign players at lower levels, but.....

 

The majority of English supporters may well see a player from their club playing in the W.C, but it will be for the opposition. The difference being, those players are honoured to be there.

You sound like the Canadians bitxhing about losing to the US in hockey, the Americans whining about losing to Italy in basketball and the Dominican Republic crying about a loss to Holland in baseball. It is what HAPPENS in club sports versus international competitions.

Players whose only means of expression is their feet suddenly have feet of clay and want to go on telly and radio and talk about their "souffrance" (Ribery), tell the manager he's a cunt (Anelka, he's never done THAT before - could be true...) - I assume that's what he said, no one seems to know... really, enjoy their fans booing (Rooney - well if they're booing, they ain't your fans Wayne...duh!) and then say sorry that they noticed it, or come over all captainy and sweaty with it (Shagger Terry).

Too bad the 5+4 rule was shot down.It would have been great for domestic players IMO.Teams in PL and Serie A would have to totally revamp their lineups.

The UK's biggest region, once again going it alone, is up against one of the smaller regions of the former Yugoslavia in a few hours -- and could be in trouble. As you know, Slovenia only need a draw, England have to win. And morale is very publicly in the kharzi.

If England lose today, my greatest sympathy will be for the traveling fans, who have spent thousands to be there for our team. They played their part, so far the team hasn't.

 

As I have said before, the large majority of England's away support, is drawn from lower clubs. These supporters never get to see the Premiership players live, unless their club has a lucky F.A cup draw against them. I have not watched a 'first division' side play for over 40 years. Tickets for England games at Wembley are a joke.

 

In their season, they don't get to watch games at Old Trafford, Emirates, Stanford Bridge..... so when they have traveled thousands of miles at great personal cost, it grieves me that they have to witness and endure such a bad effort from the very players they support out of a patriotic desire for them to be world champions. How many will still be there when England depart should they lose today ?

 

I hope the chaps get their act together. I don't mind getting beaten if we are plating our strongest team, players in the right positions, with the right formation on the field- so far that hasn't happened and it can be very frustrating to have an Italian making these crucial decisions.

 

When Wayne Bridge refused to play for England after John Terry bonked his ex girlfriend, the joke flying around mobile phones was- " Can he go and bonk Emil Heskey's missus too ? "

 

When Heskey kicked that ball straight at the U.S keeper, with only him to beat, it sort of illustrated what the joke was about.
