I was wondering what clothes I should take on my trip. I don't want to be slouching around in a t-shirt, shorts and thongs. (Flip-flops for non aussies)

I have read that you can't get into temples and such if you aren't neatly dressed, with enclosed shoes and such.

Should add that my trip is last week in Oct, 1st week in Nov. Thanks!

I have mostley cargo shorts and a couple pair of jeans. Polo shirts.

The fact that you are asking the question predicts you will be fine in whatever you are comfortable with.

Check out some of the youtube vids on walking street. Some real fashion statements there.

For visiting temples smart / casual dress is respectful, but of course as with entering any dwelling, shoes must be left outside.

Shorts are O.K. for daytime but from experience, wear long trousers at night, or the Mossies will have a field day with your legs.

Personally, i hate to see guys with no shirt on in restaurants, (girls dressed like this are fine by me :clueless)

Keep clothing light and comfortable, showers are taken several times a day here, the problem is, that as you are drying yourself off, you start sweating again. :rotflmao

Hi,

I'd wear a linen(full length) trousers as jeans are too hot in LOS climate. Wear a linen or silk shirt. You'll stay cool and look cool unlike some of the more "well known" boardies on here. :clueless

I tend to dress appropriately ... A white vest/singlet, a tight pair of speedos, knee length white socks and black sandals. If you are going to a sacred place like FLB then I suggest that you wear a loud Hawaiian shirt so that you fit in.

T-shirts, shorts and canvas plimsolls/sneakers (All Star type) during the day and if going out at night cotton cargo pants or jeans, polo shirt and trainers/leather deck shoes.

Bring your fave baseball cap or buy a hat here....... if it's your first time you do not wanted to get blindsided with a bout of sunstroke.

One hint, if you like to go for walk in the daytime and are not from a hot climate, put some sunscreen on the TOP of your feet, I got burnt once and it was painful.

You can wear pretty much what you want, when you want.

The Thais like CLEAN and FRAGRANT, so stock up on the deodorant and shower often.

If you plan a temple visit, a shirt with a collar and long trousers will suffice.

Some excellent suggestions there. How about laundry? Are there places you would recommend/avoid?

Hi,

Laundries are in hotels and all over the place. Usually cheaper to find your own rather than use hotel.

Hmm, I like to leave mine out to 'cover the pockets'.......

I am too old and self centred to worry about 'looking stupid' (to whom...... some halfwit with no shirt, a bunch of tattoos, who chain smokes?) Anyhow let them laugh.... they don't look too smart scrambling on the floor like chickens after corn bare assed when the ping-pong balls come out..

Pattaya is a beach resort, casual is the norm, shorts and shirt/ T-shirt. Sandals not flip-flops is better for walking around, and for heavens sake don't wear socks under them with shorts. Long pants more normal in Bangkok in the evenings. Religious sites long pants and shirt.

Laundries everywhere.

Sandals and socks, the biggest fashion faux-pas.

However, seems to be quite normal amongst the old gits in Pattaya, as are the Bobby Charlton comb-overs and the occasional syrup !

Why wear a wig in this climate ?

To cover up the tattoes......?

  • 4 weeks later...

Just don't bring too many clothes - too difficult to carry bags around. I usually buy a new lot of shorts, t-shirts, polo shirts when I get to Thailand that will keep me going in Australia until the next trip. If you actually find time to visit a temple whilst in Pattaya (and I'm buggered if I know how) then just buy a pair of light long pants (so cheap and so easy) when you need them. Oh, sometimes I have to buy another quite cheap backpack to get my new clobber home - Bugger!
