The New York Yankees is the most profitable professional sports franchise in the world and most would argue it is the most successful by any measure, whether in terms of sport or business. The interlocking N and Y is the best-known sports logo in the U.S. and has been used by the Yankess since 1909. For all these reasons, the Yankees' logo could be considered lucky in Asia.

I'm just guessing, but most likely a clothing counterfeiter in China or Thailand slapped it on baseball caps as being the most appropriate symbol. You see a lot of them because they are widely available and cheap in Pattaya.

Yes, and my guess in this case is that the hats start out in China, where the Yankees have made a real push in both marketing and talent scouting. However, lots of teams and leagues make their souvenir shorts, jackets and caps in Thailand and some of those "fall off the truck" as well. In some cases, you can buy the real, authentic made-for-US-idiots merchandise as well -- although most of it is knockoffs.

It's 2010 in Thailand, and there are several Thais who watch TV shows and movies made overseas and know what they're buying -- in general, even if they can't tell you how far it is into the right-centre gap in Yankee Stadium (385 feet). But I (also again) guess that most of the Yankees hats are sold because people want to be just like the others.

Since your not a sports fan in the US, I"ll try to help.First off,it's a baseball CAP,not baseball HAT.Second, the Yankees logo is the most recognizable in sports, making it a popular choice. The Yankees cap has always been THE cap of choice. Also, fans traveling outside the US wear it to annonce where they hail from.If you were a Colorado Rockies fan while traveling, locals would think you were a Crown Royal fan.

Holy, Jesus! You're another one who sends PMs asking for a whole host of advice and information and then tries to stick the knife in on the open board. Did you pick up that particular skill during your bible-bashing sessions, or what? You can mutter all the Hail Mary's you want but you'll end up stoking the fires at this rate! If you get there before me, be sure to keep my seat warm though.

Anyway, I thought you were fucking off to another board, or something :clueless

I like the new cap that has the 'N' on it's side so it looks like a 'Z'. It's referred to as a "Zoo York" cap.

Seems logical to me.

Half the new hip hop videos have at least one person wearing a Yankees cap.

Put a dead chipmunk on your head and make gangstah signs with your fingers in a hip hop video and see how long it takes bar girls to pick up on the new fashion.

Not sure why anyone (not residing in NY) would want to wear an "Evil Empire" cap.

What does "residing" in New York would have to do with it? I can think of a whole bunch of reasons. The Yankee network YES is about the only baseball shown in Thailand during the regular season of US club baseball. Lots of people grew up watching or listening to the Yankees. People may like the Yankees after watching Wang Chien-Ming. A lot of people in East Asia appreciate the big money poured into baseball development by the Yankees. People mentioned the rap videos. People already mentioned the cheap knockoffishness of it all, a nice in-the-sun cap for 100 baht. Japanese semi-worshipped Hideki Matsui.... and that just partially covers some of the reasons for cap-wearers in the the Thailand region, not completely by any means.

And of course people from extreme western Yurp can buy Yankee hats in the Manu kit store.

If a sports team wants me to be a walking 'billboard' for them, they can pay me. Fuck 'em. They have too much money already.

When I wear a cap it has my name on it....in Thai. I also have a cap that says in Thai, "Tosacan". What does that mean? Look it up.

I sent you a few PMs over 2 years ago about leasing your place because you mentioned you may be leaving.I didn't ask for "a whole host of advice",just a few questions.Don't worry, there won't be any more as there hasn't been in 2 years.

Carry on...........
