With prices going up on everything it seems to me that it would be much tighter now then just a couple of years ago.

 

Now I realize that many will ask ? Well how often do you bar-hop ? My question to that is. Once you are their at ground zero for more then 6 months do you really have that urge to go out all the time to the bars ?

 

I would think by then your cell phone should have enough short and long timers willing to stop by ?

I would say yes (at first glance I thought you were asking 30k baht/month, which would be a NO!).

This is 75k baht/month which is sufficient...

No partying every night though!

A bad formulation of your question: Local currency is baht, not dollar, so depends if a dollar is 20 baht or 40 baht...

BTW 30,000 US$ is about 77,675 baht/month today and many live in Pattaya with half of that.

The government wants you to have 800,000 Baht to live on in a year. That is their requirement for a retirement visa. So I'm sure than many can live on that much. Not sure why I can't do it. I would think that depends on the exchange rate. Today it's 30 baht to the dollar.....If it takes a plunge (this is Thailand and you never really know what's gonna happen) you're gonna be going home.

It's a lot easier than you think. Like I said, I don't live big. Occasionally, I do have a big night out. You got to remember, flying over here, I was limited to two bags, and a carry on. Every thing else has to be bought. Want to cook an egg in the morning? You have to buy a burner, a tank of propane, hoses and regulator to hook it up. Buy a pan, a plate, and a fork, add toast, and you have to buy a toaster, a knife, bread, butter, and the egg. Like coffee with your breakfast? add a microwave, coffee, a cup, a spoon and a bottle of milk. Then buy a bag to put the trash in, and a can to put the bag in, and pay someone to pick it up and haul it away.

 

Don't get me started on the cost of TV, internet, or owning a motorcycle, or air-con, or refundable security deposits, that are not returned. Did I mention my monthly stop by the BIB and contributing to their retirement fund?

They still need to be depreciated and maintained. Even 2nd hand, a basic truck isn't cheap and you've then got to add on servicing and repairs, cleaning, insurance and fuel.

 

It isn't necessities that blow your cost of living estimates, but all the other things that seem to crop up with monotonous regularity.

I am moving over to LOS (Patts) at the end of Feb 1st week in March and as an average over a year will be looking at about the same budget.

 

On my previous visits I have regarded them as holidays and as such was out drinking most nights, BF 5 nights out of the 7, eating out etc. however when I move there I will not be treating it as a holiday but as moving to live there and as such my expenses will drop. When I have come over with a friend my expenses have been as much as 10,000B per day! No way I could sustain that!

 

You will save money like this i.e.

 

I doubt I will be out every night, may be 4 or 5 nights

 

2 or 3 LT's during the week (that may be difficult)

 

My room/condo will have cooking facilities (instead of between 500B to 1000B per night in a hotel a condo for maybe 250B equivalent per night) so save money without restaurants every night

 

Motorcy rental (will prob buy a cheap manual, may be 10,000B for an old banger)

 

This is why it is important to find a good comfortable condo, decent telly for watching movies etc. So you can also enjoy time at home.

yep, 285/40/20 tyres dont have the best life expectancy, infact a few months ago I destroyed 2 left front tyres within a week of each other due to the fucked pot hole riddled roads, at 13,000 per tyre it gets real annoying.
