I've followed the situation on the floods, as many of you have I'm sure. I'm not so worried about getting to and around Los, but I am curious as to what the situation is with availability of supplies in the shops etc. I usually try to travel light and buy locally what I need for my stay, stuff like shaving cream, toothpaste, and other toiletries/cosmetics. I've read the reports about shortages of beer and other spirits, but I'm not too concerned with that. Nice to have but not my main reason for going to Los.

Can I get a resident BM to volunteer some info on what is in short supply in the local shops, ie., Family Marts and 7/11. Your input would be greatly appreciated. In a nutshell, are the shelves bare?

Thanks,

CM

Oddly enough, a few days ago, toilet paper was out of stock everywhere. I'm not sure if that shortage has been resolved or not.

You can eat well, drink well, sleep in air conditioning, and there are quite a few girls around. Is there some other reason you come to Pattaya?

If you're worried bring a tube of toothpaste with you. If beer supplies are low, tough shit they are low all around for everyone. They might have better beer supply at home but beer supply isn't why people come to Pats, is it?

Not sure about anybody else but drinking beer is a pretty large portion of my trip! :chogdee

I just went to the booze dealer and got some SML no problem. (price up to 850)

But they didn't have Chang soda water, only where I have to give them a case of empty ones, haven't got one.

Went to 7-11, shelves looked okay, loads of bottled water now, but no soda water.

I noticed this, too. But yesterday, at Tops in the basement of TukCom, toilet paper was back in stock, although only in the big 16-roll packages. I got one and saw that just about everyone else in the checkout lines also had one.

Still no instant ramen-style noodles and only a few bottles of some brand of water of which I'd never heard (didn't buy any). No Coke Zero or Pepsi Max, only a few "six packs" of regular Pepsi and 7-Up, but plenty of domestic soft drinks and bottled tea, juices and fruit drinks, Snack foods like potato chips were back in stock, but the choice was very limited.

Evil

Then a large portion of your trip to Pattaya will be sublime.

I just use the arse squirter MM and "dab" my pert bum dry. 4 sheets of paper a day is enough for any man.

See you in a few days fella, hope FLB has plenty of beer :chogdee

To be honest I was impressed at the usage of ass paper, I usually sit there post dump/water squirt and play angry birds for a few minutes whilst I drip dry.

I had reason to wander in the rear rooms of a beer-bar yesterday and there was beer and soft drinks stacked to the rafters in a room back there. It seemed rather a lot for the particular bar. A lot of hoarding going on, along with supply issues, this is exacerbating the shortages.

I thought that the following was of interest. Seems that the Thai floods have world wide implications.

The scarcity of hard disk drives will only get worse in the coming weeks and months, according to an analyst at Piper Jaffray.

"We could run out of drives by the end of November," Piper Jaffray analyst Gus Richard said in an interview Tuesday while discussing the shortage in the wake of the severe flooding in Thailand, where roughly half of the world's production of HDDs takes place.

"Availability is really going to tighten up. I'm seeing prices quoted anywhere from up 10 to up 60 percent," he said. And Richard said he is not focusing on retail but canvassing the world's largest PC makers to get a read on the supply situation. "We're calling up Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo," he said.

The status quo can be deceiving, he said. "Nobody seems to be really paying attention. Everyone overreacted to the disaster in Japan. And now I think they're underreacting," he said.
