Forum Software upgraded today

It seems a lot more user friendly today. Those boxes with red crosses in that were below everyone's user information have disappeared and the vote up and down option is back. The site doesn't seem to like animated avatars either. Getting used to the smileys is going to take time but I can live with that. The colour scheme needs livening up a bit if you ask me.........

Initially didn't like the new forum software set up (no one likes change !), but after playing around with it am impressed....

How do you blank out avatars for those of us having a discreet look at the site while at work?

 

I don't think the board will do that. You can go into your browser and tell it not to show images, or only show text -- something like that, depending on your browser. Usually under "Internet Options" --> Content

I seem to have lost the option to determine the default number of posts/threads per page - I used to set it at 40. I think it used to be hidden away under subscription options within your profile, but that whole chunk seems to have disappeared.

After the last upgrade, if you hit a thread which had come up from "View New Posts", it took you to the last entry you had read. Now we are back to it showing the first entry in the thread.

 

Also, on my 'phone, there is now no listing of pages. So, for example, on Chivas's post which is some 27 pages long, I have to start at the first page in order to get to the entry on the 27th.

Reg the last entry...to the left of the topic description is a clickable icon. Hover your mouse over that and it will say something like "go to first unread post". Click on it, and that's what should happen....or at least the first unread page.

I've not been using the mobile theme, but have chosen the full forum , IP.Board. Next time I use the mobile theme, I'll check out out.

 

Is this different behavior than the prior version, or is it something you just noticed about the mobile version?

At the bottom of the screen, click on CHANGE THEME.

 

Choose IP.Board if you are running on a PC.

 

Choose IP.Board Mobile if running on a mobile.

 

See if that helps.

I am sure everything works but somethings are in a different place, but it seems that I can only view new posts that I have not posted in, if that makes any sense. The white back ground that I an seeing with blue edge is very harsh on the eye, and that seems to be the only skin available apart from the Mobile one.

* click on "New Content",

* click on "by Time",

* click on "Content I have not read".

Very strange. What I am seeing with the IP.Board Mobile skin is the following:

 

When I first open the forum, I get a list of subforums.

 

 

 

Then I click the box with squares in it to the right of the forum name and get

 

 

I click NEW CONTENT and get this:

 

 

Now, you can filter your new topic results by TYPE, by DATE or by clicking MORE, get choices about topics you've started, participated in, etc.

 

I click the star or circle to the left of the topic title to get to the first unread post....not sure what the difference is yet between the star and circle.

 

So, it appears you and I are using different skins or something. Yours doesn't appear to be the IP Board standard mobile skin, so I don't know how to help you.

Thanks. I cannot see anywhere where I can choose a different skin on my 'phone. My guess is that it is a result of the board software not being designed with my 'phone's OS (Enea OSE apparently) in mind. Another price I pay for having a small 'phone!

In the other skins, the choice to change skins is at the very bottom of the page, saying something like CHANGE THEME or USE MOBILE VERSION.

 

What confounds me is where did that skin you use come from? It's not like anything I've seen Invision produce, and I don't know if they produce a skin for each phone type.

I've upgraded the tapatalk version on the forum server, so it should be working now.

As you might notice, animated gifs can be set as avatars...just not most of them

 

I think it has to do with either the size of the .gif file in bytes, or the dimensions of the file.

 

I'm looking for the setting that controls those limits, but they have moved them or removed them.

 

I consider the ability to set a pseudo-pornographic moving avatar as a very low priority at this point.

 

Another issue that is of more importance is that the 10 photo limit on uploads is back, and I have to find the correct place to modify the code (again).
