I was wondering what locals and business people consider the right dress for Pattaya (assuming there is such a thing) and what they would like to see.

I was reading a thread recently and it got me thinking. A Boardie mentioned that all he needed to bring to Pattaya was two pair of shorts and some shirts and he was OK as far as clothes was concerned. I just happen to be of the older school that still wears (most times) at night a pair of long pants and a shirt with a collar, be it a polo or more formal type. Now then, here is my question.

Do bar owners, management or whoever in Pattaya want, expect, or would like to see a dress standard or have they given up or just dont care?

Do the girls care, react or just dont notice what someone is wearing?

Have you any suggestions for right, wrong, appropriate or inappropriate dess in Pattaya?

Just can't stand seeing some of these(usually) loud mouthed slobs clad in their sweaty Singha singlet, "proudly displayed"(it's all paid for ya know!) beer gut, scruffy shorts and flip flops. Usually

Not enough "tats" to e Brits, they must be Americans

I have to agree wit Joe here. In Pattaya you can get away with shorts and sandals However, Thai's are very class conscious. I know some will say, "who cares what a whore thinks" But every one you

I also wear long cotton trousers and a shirt with collar at night. I almost always wear sandals though. Mate of mine was wearing some very expensive casual gear and a bg asked him why he "not dress nice like your friend" so I guess they do notice.

NO SHIRT is bad form away from the beach and will get you some looks from the thais, even the poorest thai usually has a shirt on. I have acgtually seen falangs get fined for motorbike riding without a shirt on, its against the traffic law apparently.

Usually Brits I'm not afraid to say. I firmly believe that the girls appreciate it when we take the trouble to dress up a bit. Minimum evening wear for me is a smart well pressed short sleeved shirt and clean pressed shorts or slacks. No excuses for wearing dirty kit when there are so many laundries around. No shirt usually indicates a drunk, or a drunk looking for a fight, to be avoided at all costs.

I could not agree more :thumbup

+1. That's my impression as well. The shirtless guys are drunk troublemakers at best, out-and-out psychos at worst.

I could care less, as long as they're wearing a shirt, pants, and some sort of shoes.

No shirt, no service is a good rule.

Was in a go go on soi 8 , when a tall , not well built , but not out of shape , young guy came in just in a beach towel and sporting a shoulder bag ,

he was on his own , you could see he was up for a laugh

,

the girls all had a smile for him , as did the management ,

would the rule be apply in this case ?

You bet they notice. Girls in Pattaya are a lot like girls. They prefer someone who looks "smart". They may settle for slobs but they prefer otherwise. In Asia, in public, lack of shirt off the beach is frowned on, considered quite low class. Pattaya is a place you can get away with shorts, though - that is also frowned on in most places.

Nuts! It always takes me days to get this one out of the mind. Great song. Great group. One of the truly great rock sounds.

I was always a warrior against the snobbish long trousers, shirts with collar bullshit ( OK, agree with the no shirt, no service rules ) .... i'm OK with my bum looking dress code, I never felt any disadvantages... however looking on the russkies football shorts ( really short, until the middle of their thigh ), the wife beater athlete shirts and the plastic slippers... I turned to be a snob... it's too much even for me...

Agree.... many, many girls reported me, my chances increased, because I smell clean and like a perfume store... ( NOT perfumed to kill the sweat smell, but perfumed on my clean body ) And they can to differ the genuine brands from the cheapo deodorants... For my big surprise many of them can name of my brand perfumes...just smelling on me...

The thread title is "Appropriate Dress for Pattaya". Appropriate behaviour is a whole different matter. I would say the "norm" was dress sensible, behave sensible, however we've all seen people, intoxicated and being a pain and taken the odd excursion ourselves. I would admit to taking a tumble on the FLB dance floor when attempting to limbo dance too low.

I'm only saying what the rule is in one bar, not all bars.

I remember the occasion well - it was in the Drucken Duck. You were very friendly and you were wearing a shirt. A black one with a collar.

I know some will say, "who cares what a whore thinks" But every one you come in contact with, isn't a whore. Those that are, would still rather be seen with you, if you are wearing a shirt with a collar, long pants, and shoes. It puts you above a farm worker, lets face it, they left the farm to get away from that. As much as you like arm candy, the ladies like it too. I can't tell you how many times I've been with women and seen a man that was shirtless, or wearing flip flops, and the lady saying that she was glad that I never dress that way.

Many times I seen posters ask how to meet a "nice girl" well, dressing like you aren't a farm worker, or flat broke is a good start.
