Last night I had dinner at Bert's bar. I ordered fish and chips. The fish was cooked just the way I like it. Golden brown, not overcooked or under cooked. Fish was very tasty. Excellent service at a reasonable cost.

Why not tell us how much it was and let us decide if it is reasonable?

One man's reasonable may be another's pricey

I like Goose's, but it certainly isn't cheap.

If you want something light, I think the fish and chips/baked potato/rice at Sizzler is good value for under 210 Baht (considering you also have the unlimited soup, salad and jelly/mousse thrown in). I like Bert (and what he does on behalf of The Legion), but he's a walking advert of what his food will do for you.

Jolly friar.

Small dory (not that small at all) 60 baht

Small chips (again, a decent size) 40 baht.

I will try TB's as it does seem to get decent reviews

I didn't for one minute think that Bert has always looked like he does now. I believe he was a bit of a racing snake in his army days. :thumbup

I eat breakfast at Bert's almost everyday when I'm in Pattaya. Bert has the Bangkok Post and Pattaya Mail available to read for free.

I used to eat at Tropical Berts most days on my last trip. The best Full English breakfast that I've eaten in Patts. Consistantly good over several months. Whenever I wanted Falang food as an evening meal again it would be at Tropical Bert's. They serve up a lot of food there and have loads of regular customers. Even fucking German war vets eat and drink there because it's so good. The staff there are top notch too.

Another good thing is you can eat the Breakfast that comes with the room any time the kitchen is still open. That's up to 11pm usually. Quite often I'd be eating my breakfast at 6 or 7 pm having woken up at 3pm.

Can't remember ever eating the included breakfast at other hotels and guesthouses where they stop serving breakfast at noon or even 10am.

One of the Waitresses will bring it to your room if you want breakfast in bed.

Cannot agree with you on Gooses Jacko I went there with a friend on the recommendations of several from this board . I found it expensive greasy and heavy on batter light on fish ! I agree with Big D and others about berts its good food and reasonable. Try the slightly healty option of his sandwiches they are excellent lovely fresh white bread packed full of whatever your filling !

These places run hot and cold, and I must admit I haven't been back for a bit as it isn't on my normal route. I have even stopped ordering fish and chips wherever I end up as all too often I am getting some unknown type of fish that has turned to mush. Goosies at least told me what type of fish was on offer..... now I only have it when I am back in the UK, particularly at Colman's in South Shields.

Thanks for the review. I've walked into this area a few times and saw the 'Fish and Chips' menu item. I'll give it a try.

P.S. I am also a regular diner at Sizzler for their salad bar and either BBQ chicken or Fish and chips economy meals when I don't have the appetite for the Shabushi buffet.

In the UK gotta be, 'The Seashell' Lisson Grove. The rows of Rolls parked outside on the Jewish Sabbath a testament to the quality.
