But I'd never watch it again. Too saccharine for my taste, and the thread is series you'd like to see again.

yeah, Bonanza was definitely too goody-two-shoes for my liking, or pretty much ANYTHING Landon was in.

Married with Children, I bought one season on DVD when I was living in Rayong, still have it, but never watched it more than once.

X-Files, tried re-watching it, but it's just not the same as when things unfolded the first time I watched it.

There are some episodes that are great stand-alone though, like the one of the shape-shifter or of the family of inbreeds who had their mother locked up in the house, WILD !

Wishbone was in Rawhide alright

I remember being hooked on the series..

Rich Man Poor Man (with Nick Nolte) as a kid.

Some of the BBC stuff was entertaining too....

Edward the king.

The Onedin Line

And I never went out for a pint until

Spitting Image was done.

I'm into all this nostalgia. I often order stuff from Amazon to be sent to my brother's address. I go back to London once or more a year depending on who's died....... By the time I get there I've long forgotten what I've ordered and it's like Christmas morning opening all the packages.

The recent winners have been, Steptoe and Son, Callan, Yes Prime Minister..........All of which really hold up and still surprise.

The top of this last batch however was the film, "School for Scoundrels' ..........It's still so funny!

A series I really got into, some years after it was produced, being shown on Star World while I was in Saudi...

House of Cards.

To be honest a night in-front of the TV years ago in the UK was quite entertaining, some good stuff at 8pm.

It has been a sad decline, all I see now is silly cooking programs, quizzes, people auctioning off their old crap (advised by an orange man with incredulous hair) and those looking to buy a house in 1995.

I'm sick of all the Talent shows of late, American Idol, X Factor, The Voice, So You Think You Can Dance, etc. etc.

This reminds me that I bought Auf wiedersehen, Pet last week from iTunes.

Now that WAS a great British show.

Boys from the Blackstuff

Auf Wiedersehen Pet

Edge of Darkness- although that one would need a new story.

Triangle !!! Regularly voted as one of the worst ever series ever made in the UK, especially by anyone connected to the maritime trade. If it was that bad it must have comic mileage !

The greatest ever...

Excellent series... (especially if you watch it in the intended order (not the broadcast order))

Mine?

Monty Python...

no problems finding the old TV sereis if you have foxtel or HD TV all the makeshift chanels are full of re runs, problem is they arent as good as i rember them with a few exceptions Cheers , Mash and , (Seinfeld if it qulifies).

Used to love The Fall Guy , Dukes of hazard, The Goodies, The Young ones, Doctor Who, Prisoner (Cell Block H) etc when i was growing up , still on TV but there just not any good. Movies tend to stand the test of time but very few TV shows do , the poor production quality and acting seems to show up over time.

I agree with Nus01 we were easier to please then and most of these shows would not be the hits they were today....unless they were jazzed up. But that almost doesn't matter....... I brought back with me from my last trip......... numerous old tv series that i just wanted to see, 'one more time'.

The cars, the street furniture and the clothes of the London I grew up in........The social mores and attitudes that have changed.......(some for the better), I've enjoyed, for one reason or another all the stuff I crammed into my case and brought 'home' to Thailand. But there's not much I'd show my son and say, "You'll love this"

For me they're a personal journey, from the pre-PC and banned early, 'Popeye cartoons' to the still edgy and gritty, "Callan The Monochrome Years".

As Paul Simon said...."Preserve your memories they're all that's left you"

Bought that on dvd a while back, as someone said, got to be watched in the right (wrong) order. I recorded the remake last year but haven't watched it yet. Ditto Life On Mars...the original UK version.

I was confined to my room in Jomtien for a month three years ago, got the set of Blackadder from that place on 2nd Rd. I got converted to the US version of The Office at the same time.

Ive also got some Hill St Blues on tape.....I fear it may age badly when its time to view it again.

Next purchase may be AufWeidersehn Pet, I don't think series 3 or 4 were ever shown here. (Oz)

And nobody from Britland has nominated Rumpole yet? For shame....

Meanwhile, I'll just wait for Sgt Bilko to come back. :whistling:

Yes, St. Elsewhere was very good as well...Homicide was superb, and I'm glad you mentioned it.

Andre Braugher was one of the best series actors I have ever seen.

Really, there were some riveting series back then

What was the one that Caruso became famous in?

Big tick for Picket Fences....Fyvush Finkel and Ray Walston just superb.

Naked City was a very popular American crime series in the UK (there are 8 milliion stories etc etc).

Wagon Train and Rawhide were also very popular. My favourite was Wells Fargo.
