Anybody seen them in Pattaya?

I'm not talking about a rock band but the little furry things. Not many trees in Pattaya but if you look high up in the tree tops you might catch sight of them jumping from branch to branch. If I remember correctly they have a flash of bright yellow on their fur.

When I was recovering from a heart attack at the Pattaya International Hospital on Soi 4, I'd sometimes unplug myself from all the wires and drips and sit out on the balcony for a smoke. Daybreak was usually the best time to have a sneaky smoke because the Nurses seemed to be busy with whatever they do. I used to watch the antics of these Squirrels. Something I'd never usually be lucky enough to witness being a night person and usually sailing three sheets to the wind. Being an animal lover they were fascinating and amusing to watch.

Anybody else seen them or was it just the Morphine, lol.

Not morphine, there are many of them in Pattaya :)

The easiest way to see them probably is to go walk in the national park on the hill, under Pattaya view point (with the Statue Admiral Prince Krom Louang Chumphon Khet monument). Don't make noise and look upper in trees, they are everywere :)

No more big parks in Pattaya itself now, but many places with big enough trees still have squirels. I saw 2 of them Saturday morning crossing Soi Buakhao on phone wires not far than Rehab Club ;)

I used to see a Thai kind of squirel for sell in markets but looks like they stop selling them. Not sure if illegal or what, but many were I thing way too young to be sold. Schoolgirls seems to like them though. Often seen one on a girl shoulder. Seems to be friendly pets...

One jumped off the wall into my pool once, scrambled out and away as me and the cat watched. I thought it was a rat at first. It must have been hot!

Funny thing, people in the US traditionally won't hunt and cook rats but they will squirrels even though squire's are just rats with good PR.

In between wives, I stayed in a rented house in Penn, Buckinghamshire...........One morning I opened an airing cupboard to find a 'glis glis' sitting on a pile of my Calvin Kleins......it sat there blinking at me. I got a good look at him and could tell it was nether rat nor squirrel........It was a very rare creature called a 'glis glis'

The 'Glis Glis' or fat doormouse is edible........The Roman's loved 'em. In England they are considered a protected species and although a pest, you need to get permission to deal with them. We can thank one of the Rothschilds....(The one that drove a team of Zebras to Buckingham Palace to prove his point that Zebras can be tamed), and the 'Great Glis Glis Breakout' from Rothschild's Zoo in Tring for this lovely mammal's presence in a very small part of England.

It wasn't my house and so it was fun to share digs with this family of squirrel-like creatures. As they grew bolder they'd pop out from time to time.......Their unexpected appearance would always make any 'totty' invited round clutch at their neither regions and scream......And yet when I'd peeled the girl off the ceiling and explained in my best 'Richard Attenborough' it's harmless nature and rarity they found themselves deeply moved by my kindness and forebearence towards God's creatures.

Galore's or the black and white Thai squirrels, are fun to watch capering in the trees at Cabbages and Condoms......Brings back warm memories of olde England and all those happy shags.

Ps did you know that squirrels swim on their backs ... to keep their 'nuts' dry?

Squirrel tastes good. Very lean. Have yet to try rat, passed on it when it was offered to me at the village in Surin. Probably tastes the same but just the thought of sewer rats was enough.

I couldn't believe it but the TGF brought a dead one when she came back from the market yesterday.

('What the hell are you going to do with that, make Tom Yam' I asked). She was all upset as it had been hit by a car (road kill dinner)....

I will never understand them and thank heaven a dog wasn't hit!

The ex once said, with real horror, "Lao eat dog, Thai no eat dog."

More commonly I hear that if it has legs then Thai will eat; No legs then it is Lao food. They seem to find that hilarious !..........Me, not so much, coz it just ain't true !!!!!!
