BA took delivery of the first of 12 Airbus A380's on thursday morning , this first plane goes into service in early autumn and this new fleet will replace BA's aging 747's on it's long haul routes , this new plane has already had the wing modification work carried out so there will be no delays into putting it into service.....!

I think it suits the BA livery very well, but prepare for the Boeing boys to call it ugly!

We have the new Boing 787 Dreamliner flying from San Jose, Ca to Narita, Japan again after battery problems.

Both planes are nice enough looking from the outside. What matters is if it is safe and how individual airlines mess with the cabin in regards to passenger comfort.

I would fly either. I can't believe anybody would chose a flight based on the looks of the plane but there are many stranger things in life.

But, since I like EVA's arrival time at BKK, I will more than likely go 50 miles north to SFO and fly them - and they are Star Alliance now! They fly 777s and retired (I think) the 747s I flew on Taipei to BKK before. At least one can hope.

I liked EVA's old 747-400 Combi-s, but most of them, if not all, have been taken out of passenger service.

Looks like there are still a few in passenger service, http://www.evaair.com/en-us/flying-with-us/fleet-facts/passenger/

Just found this,

EVA Air's long-haul fleet is based on the Boeing 777-300ER, with the carrier's initial order for 15 all delivered by 2011. In 2006, the airline decided against its existing three Boeing 777-200LR orders (stating that with the 777-300ERs it has sufficient passenger capacity), and the 777-200LR orders were converted into 777-300ER orders. Despite the airline's focus on cargo operations, EVA Air in 2007 indicated it had no current plans to acquire the Boeing 777 Freighter. Instead, with the arrival of additional passenger Boeing 777 aircraft, EVA Air transferred more Boeing 747 aircraft to freighter operations. In late 2010, EVA Air indicated it planned to lease three A330-300 aircraft for Asian routes in 2011. In mid-2011, EVA Air announced plans to acquire further 777-300ERs to complete the replacement of its 747-400 aircraft on Europe and U.S. routes, along with A321 series narrow-body jets to replace its MD-90 fleet. On May 8, 2012, EVA Air signed orders with Boeing for 3 additional 777-300ERs, and also announced its lease of 4 more 777-300ERs from GECAS. More at Wikipedia

Hi,

People tell me that BA has a very old fleet. It's good that they are buying new planes and the Airbus A380 is the best plane for the long haul routes East. Should be plenty of new orders for this great success.

Be nice if they took this opportunity to replace some of their ageing cabin crew at the same time, lol.

Yes it looks good in their livery. Bad news I just checked seat guru and economy is showing only 31in seat pitch, so same as all the other BA planes.

I did too! The Eva Delux seating was up front.

Yes it was, and that is where many airlines moved their first class compartment after the introduction of the larger upper deck with the 747-300 and 747-400.

I read that there was another fire on a Boeing Dreamliner somewhere so the A380 may not have any competition for a while.

They don't compete. Two different sized aircraft for two different markets. The closest competitor to the A380 is the Boeing 747-8i (Intercontinental). ULA (ultra large aircraft) has become a niche market and neither the A380 or 747-8 have sold as well as their manufacturers would have hoped.

The Ethiopian Airlines one parked at Heathrow? Also a 787 had to turn back to Manchester due to a problem.

I believe the carrying of liquids restriction on aircraft will soon be modified for 787 flights, as it is recommended passengers bring their own fire extinguishers.

Hi,

Good one. :bhappy It's not a funny situation however. Fire on an aircraft must be the most frightening thing.
