How the hell does something like that happen on Beach road?

Unbelievable.

The way some of those double story tourist buses move along beach road, i would hate to see the carnage they would cuase in the event of an accident

The news article says Jomtien Beach Road not Pattaya Beach Road so that might account for somewhat higher speed, I suppose.

The guy ripped through a bunch of parked motorbikes from what I understand. That's how the amount of vehicles involved was so high. They park them in a mass right there on the corner.

To my bigoted shame, when I first started reading this thread, I thought a couple of Hi-So Thai offspring had been hot-rodding down Jomtiem beach Rd.

If you look up the Spanish translation of Pajero, (South American), it seems apt!

It would have be worse if on Pattaya Beach Road.

Since cars have 3 free lines, they often drive at way to high speed,

mainly late at night or early morning when nearly no traffic.

"1 dead, 14 injured, German arrested, following Jomtien Beach Road Crash

Posted on November 9, 2013 at 4:12 am

A 72 Year Old German man was arrested following a serious road crash which occurred on Jomtien Beach Road on Friday Night which left 1 dead, 14 injured and 13 vehicles damaged.

The crash occurred in front of the Somprasong Plaza on Jomtien Beach Road just after 8pm and led to the arrest of Mr. Juergen Heinze aged 72. He had been assaulted by others involved in the crash and was in a dazed state. The suspect was subjected to a breathalyzer test but it came back negative for alcohol in his system. Inside his damaged Mitsubishi Pajero prescription medication was found which led Police to believe he may have become impaired due to the drugs.

Witnesses saw the car being driven at speed and erratically and after hitting 10 parked motorbikes it then hit two other cars and a Baht Bus full of Thai and foreign customers.

The deceased victim was described as female, aged around 35 and of Russian decent. 7 Thai’s and 7 Russians were injured and taken to various Hospitals around Pattaya for emergency treatment.

At the Police Station communication with the suspect was difficult so it was decided to continue the interview on Saturday after the effects of any medication he may have taken have a chance to wear-off.

That was actually taken from the name of their rescue unit in Pattaya, หน่วยกู้ภัยสว่างบริบูรณ์, which translates in gOOgle to "Rescue brightness of age".

Sawang สว่าง = bright

Boriboon บริบูรณ์ = bountiful or complete

Not sure where Age came into it.

Seems meds were to blame. I investigate commercial vehicle accidents for a living. Lately several buses have been badly damaged and passengers sent to the hospital by elderly drivers on new medications. Meds can actually be worse than alcohol but not as bad as driving tired which is the most dangerous driving act you can commit.

Have the speed bumps on Jomtien beach road been added since this accident, or have I just never noticed them before. The paint on them kind of looks new, but there already seems to have a lot of grime on them already.
