Very nice selection of meats (beef (2 kinds well and medium), pork,chicken and lamb)

 

Great selection of other food such as mashed potato's, gravy, vegetables and breads

 

Limited deserts available

 

Drink price was very reasonable @ 40 baht for water

 

Well worth the visit..!

Had my favorite (shrimp cocktail) and mashed potato's and gravy

 

No breads of any kind offered

 

Limited amount of deserts

 

Drink price was very reasonable @ 40 baht for water

 

You can do better elsewhere for a carvery

Cost : 279 Baht

 

There is a reason it is 279 Baht. This is not your normal carvery, as there is not a display of any meats on the buffet line. It seems to be a selection of warmed up deli meats

Meats : Turkey, ham and beef

 

One selection of bread (no butter), mashed potato's and gravy, one soup, Yorkshire pudding and some unsightly looking vegetables (from a can). I did notice a cottage pie and some type of chicken. Other dishes were on the line, but this is a low grade attempt at a carvery

 

No desserts offered

 

Drink price was 29 Baht for Water

 

You can do far better than this place

I've always enjoyed the food at the Queen Vic. Try the fish & chips. Never had a bad meal there.

I tried the Queen Vic Sunday carvery once. Pretty good. Still, for 370 baht you had better be fairly hungry. That's a lot of money to pay if you don't eat much. I guess that's true for most such deals. They're a good deal if you eat a lot. Otherwise, maybe not.

sooner go to pig n whistle half the price of the others and plenty

off it great meal lamb,beef,chicken why pay silly prices at the

other places to eat the same

 

425 at sportmans you must be joking you that's like 2 and a half

Kudos to Greg for the reviews.

 

But I'm with js007. As I've gotten older -- sigh -- I've found myself eating less. If I were in my 20s, I could make all of those buffets pay for offering all-you-can eat to me. But these days, I don't eat like I used to (and still gain weight), so buffets are not in my economic sweet zone. I'd rather pay a more to get really high *quality* food than worry about pigging out at mid-level quality food for the same price.

 

Just my dos centavos.

I've just returned from a long-awaited visit to Dicey O'Rs on Second Road....I'm not normally a buffet/carvery guy but Greg Bs review above and another by Evil P convinced me to try this place. I'm glad I did!!

 

I wasn't sure I was hungry enough for a carvery,as two plates seem a minimum ROI for these places,but I thought I would get there early and give it a go.

 

Nice ambience,good air con,well-spaced out tables,a low-key crooner warbling away and quality furnishings made for a good setting.A smallish crowd (numerically) to begin with but others drifted in as one o'clock approached. No Singha wifebeaters to be seen,or football shirts,or tattooed gobshites from the Chav and Bogan communities. It was looking good.

 

A gorgeous Russian femme-fatale took my drinks order.....bit of a surprise there but she was polite,charming and emminently do-able.

 

The food was delicious.

 

The biggest attraction for me,incredible though it may sound,was the sprouts,peas and bacon menage a trois....I saw photos of this dish previously and so was on the hook. Sprouts maketh a good Sunday roast in my HO. The bacon pieces had substantial layers of fat,but it was easy to cut that away and carry on regardless.

 

The mains? Well I plated up twice,with a full load of beef,pork,chicken and cottage pie each time. The Yorkshires looked a bit raw and wouldn't go well with my low-fat diet that I try to enforce so I passed on those. The cottage pie had a layer of melted cheese,like a lasagne layer,but was gorgeous. The roast potatoes were nice too,I prefer them to have crisp and sharp edges and a little burned but these were solid biege with no optical blemishes. They also has a crinkle cut external pattern,never seen that before on roast pots.

 

The gravy was delish too.

 

I missed out on a plethora of other dishes,having set my targets from the get-go.

 

Desserts.....tiny delicate creamy spongy creations....to die for. My cardiologist would be booking me an angiogram if he saw what I had.

 

So...two huge plates of terrific food,two plates of dreamy cakes and a Pepsi Max....all in all a bill o 470-ish including tax but not service (carvery is 399 and drink was 70 ish).

 

Was it worth it?? OMG yeah! Quality eats in a very nice setting.

I keep reading that the mashed potatoes were great , but no mention of roasted potatoes which is what makes it a roast dinner. Do they not roast potatoes in Thailand.

 

Quite a few restaurants that offer a Sunday dinner will have roast potatoes on the menu. I've had roasties at Punch & Judy; Pig & Whistle; Nicky's; Queen Vic; and a few others. However, I've found them to be disappointing for the most part. The explanations I've heard have ranged from the correct sort of potato for roasting not being available in Thailand to the oven not being hot enough. Also, roast potatoes don't do well on a chafing dish, they should be served straight from the oven.

I went to Dicey's yesterday.

 

Had the Turkey. Great selection. The roast potatoes were not to my liking.........apart from that pretty good.

 

My daughter loves the Tom Yam Gung in there too..... Top quality ingredients..

I'm not convinced about the potato variety argument. Some restaurants have used the same explanation in regard to the chips (fries) they serve and yet other restaurants produce the same quality as is the norm in western Europe. Palmers in Soi 13/4 serves up exceptionally delicious chips...so if they can do it,why not others?

 

Next time I'm in Pattaya I'll try the roast there....pretty sure the potatoes will be what I'm used to in the West.

Just pigged out at Diceys again.....fabulous buffet as per usual.

 

Arrived just before 13.00hr....and was lucky to be seated. A big crowd in there already,and just one empty table. Not everyone was there for the Carvery....a group of UK squaddies were planning the hiring a boat and were eating burgers,a big crowd of Americans were there drinking water and having a question and answer session about something or other,and the bar was populated by single men drinking pints and playing on ipads. Otherwise,the all-you-can-eat 399 thb was the main event.

 

Plenty of seats outside,but the sun was fierce and air-conditioning was required.

 

Inside,a female singer filled the air with popular western songs,the lighting was low and the air-con was just right.

 

An English waiter directed me to my table. Last visit it was a Russian girl,this time a Brit. How do they get work permits??

 

So,on to the food. Only three meats this time (turkey,pork,beef) but all were cooked to perfection. The roast potatoes were normal wedges,not crinkle cut,and the gravy was gorgeous. The sprouts were served mixed with onions,peas and sweecorn....no bacon bits this time. Plenty of other sides too,including a delicious cottage pie.

 

I loaded a plate with all the above,and wolfed it down in no time! The lady carver was shocked to see me return to the carving station so quickly and re-fill my plate again....this time no pork but extra beef. The beef was totally delightful. Not over-cooked,not tough. So,I gobbled that as before....probably too quickly as I got the meat sweats.

 

Next stop....the cake zone. Yet again,superb delicate creamy and spongy creations. I grabbed a few,knowing I had over-eaten on the mains and eaten too quickly as well,and forced them down.

 

Now I wasn't feeling great.....too much food eaten far too quickly.

 

Check bin....399 for the food plus 79 for a Pepsi Max. I popped a purple shopping voucher in the wallet and dragged my carcass out into the blazing sunshine.

 

Second Road was bumper-to-bumper,a seething traffic jam. Another reason not to sit outside and have to suck up all that pollution. Motorcycles with overloud pipes roared through any gap they could find. The contrast from a dark,climate-controlled peaceful setting with sweet music percolating through to this carnage of the senses was remarkable!

 

Back to the hotel to lie down.

 

So,the Carvery on Sunday at Dicey O'Rs.......fantastic value. Great food,great surroundings,and a fair price. Drinks are slightly toppy,but thats the way it goes.

 

Very very highly recommended if you are hungry and want to eat two dinners.

 

Open 12.00-16.00 Sundays. Get there early to guarantee a table.

 

Next time I'm going to eat slowly so I can do justice to those beautiful cakes they have.
