Weird Altercation on Walking Street

Does anyone know what this was all about? Not a very serious fight- mostly arm flailing and pushing- but I'm surprised more Thai males didn't intervene when the most aggressive of the ME-looking guys started slapping the girls (or were they lady boys?). It doesn't seem like a resounding success for the Happy Zone policy. And I felt bit sorry for the elderly police volunteer at the beginning of the video. Nobody came to help him.

I was surprised that the Thai men didn't open up the can of whop ass on them, then again the guy had his hands full with the girl

I know this altercation (I won't call it a fight) lends itself to jokes, but does anyone have an idea of what really touched it off? Seemed to be a rather complicated situation.

You supplied a much better video and link than I got from Thai Visa earlier.... glad I watched more of it as it got to be more fun after 3 minutes.

Who knows... I still remember a normally quiet girl behind the bar at Daves GB Bar on the Beach Rd, exploding at a drunken Arab customer in the wee hours and I helped him gently to move on. I think he had slapped her.

A few of observations:

1. Dear ME guys.....don't throw punches like girls. It makes you look bad, like sissies. Don't come overhand with an open palm. Stay down tight, then fire hips, then shoulders, fist direct to jaw.

2. Was there a sale on those black and white design shirts that were 2-for-1? I don't think I'd go out drinking with my boys all wearing the same shirt like we're a bowling team.

3. If they had stuck around, I give the angry Thai ladies 2 to 1 that they'd have kicked the two guys asses.

Their style of slapping (it ain't fighting) tells me they don't have experience from street confrontations. It also meant none of the participants got badly injured. Contrast that with the Songkran video of the passenger in a car who beat up and knocked unconscious a defenseless older man on Pattaya Klang.

2. Was there a sale on those black and white design shirts that were 2-for-1? I don't think I'd go out drinking with my boys all wearing the same shirt like we're a bowling team.

Maybe it was a "Buy 1, get 1 free deal" deal. However , it isn't unusual to see members of the same club, association, group, etc. wearing identical shirts. Think sports fans on a game day.

It does remind me from an experience during my university years many years ago. On weekends, I had a job that was the best possible preparation for dealing with farang expats in Pattaya as well as some BMs on the punter boards: I worked as an aide at an institution for the mentally handicapped, nowadays called people with intellectual disabilities. The inmates were adults with severe retardation (in the clinical sense) who couldn't fend for themselves but didn't have family and were institutionalized by court order.

University students were hired as aides for weekend outings to parks or special events like parades, street fairs and festivals. All the inmates wore identical outfits so they could be spotted easier if one wandered off, or, in the worst case, a description could be given to law enforcement. In winter, they all wore the same style of parka in a bright orange color. Any time I see a group of people wearing the same T-shirt, I think about those outings.

3. If they had stuck around, I give the angry Thai ladies 2 to 1 that they'd have kicked the two guys asses.

On several occasions, I've seen bar girls do significant damage to aggressive punters, although spiked heels and/or bottles usually came into play. Luck yfor the ME guys that none of those girls had a boy friend among the WS moto drivers or security staff.

Slightly off topic but better here than anywhere else I can think of.

As I waited at some lights yesterday I witnessed a scrap in a car waiting to turn right, the passenger window was down.

A Thai guy, driver, punching a Thai woman passenger from appearances. Although she was putting up some spirited resistance. Shocked me how he was using fists. First thought, pull up and drag him out of his car, second thought, mind yer own and get on home!

As I drove off I saw the car turn right then attempt to stop in the middle of the road !

Now that I've had a few days to think; maybe it'd be better if all the fights in Pattaya were with palms and overhand like that. Pattaya could be a safer place.

Beats rocks, iron bars and large pieces of wood.

  • 2 weeks later...

So many idiots on Walking Street these days. Seems that tourists, especially Arabs and Indians and Chinese think WS is the only place they can go in Pattaya. They are welcome to it if they want to cause trouble, they'll find out the hard way.

Can always have a good time in Patts without ever going to Walking Street as long as you are polite and friendly and respect others people's feelings.
