I was thinking of staying at the Areca again but thought I would ask for a recommendation for a comparable hotel halfway between WS and LK Metro.

Thanks in advance.

edit:

I have been looking at street maps and two that look about what I might like are Sandy Springs and Inn House.

West side of Sandy Spring was The Haven Hotel which has been demolished and is now a construction site.

Very good suggestion...Cheap, open air and all you need to bring is your hammock...

I don't know when the last time that you stayed at the Areca was but one thing may interest you about the place, being as you have shown an interest in English footie..

The small beer garden out front now has a big screen that (last season) showed the footie. When my sons visited last April and stayed there we also used the hotel outside bar which had quite competitive beer prices IIRC...

Isn't Inn house opposite the site that was the Haven?

Yes. And if you stay there, make sure you are not given an inter-connecting room.

A few months ago, a friend stayed at the Golden Sea and was very impressed by it. It is just off Soi Buakhao, and an easy walk to Metro, and on the Baht bus route to WS if you don't want the hike down there. http://www.goldenseapattaya.com

Another in the same area which gets good reports is Nature View. http://www.natureviewpattaya.com/

Natureview was on the list of places that my sons gave me to check out for them. It was fully booked when I visited so I didn't see the rooms but they decided not to stay there when I told them there was no shaded areas by the pool and it seemed not enough chairs for those that did want to sunbathe.....Areca was a far better choice for this particular aspect of accommodation.....

Note: My son's wife is ginger haired so the shade was probably more important to them than other guests though...

I've just checked the location on Booking.com (which is sometimes wrong,of course) and I am not sure whether the road it is shown to be on is accessible from both ends or if you have to walk all the way around to get to the baht bus on soi buakhao if your destination is Lengkee/Dianna or NP etc.. For going to WS you'd have to walk along soi 15, cross 2nd road and you'd be so far down beach road you might aswell walk all the way...

The reason I'm thinking this is I am unsure whether the R-Con blue swimming pool blocks off the road shown on the map or not.... I shall take a walk either today or tomorrow and report back..

One good thing though.....Not far for MLC to walk to PBG to buy me a Long Island Iced Tea. I shall have to wear a low-cut, loose fitting T-Shirt so that he can ogle my ample cleavage...

Just to add my opinion. If you can afford the Areca why bother moving? Seems that the location, facilities, ease of having a joiner etc makes this a good destination.

I have been fighting the urge to say the same thing but instead just trying to answer the question ...

That does sound nice as I have become a fan of your league. Are you speaking of where Cherry Bar is roughly next door?

When I first went to Pattaya nine years ago. I could walk from South Pattaya to the Dolphins and back and here and there and everywhere. It was nothing but time to walk to WS and back or Soi 8 (Cherry Bar) in the evening even after all of that.

Unfortunately, I can't walk as far without pain now (knees). I still love to walk but thought it better to find a place roughly halfway between WS and Soi Diana (Cherry Bar/ LK Metro bars. Those are my haunts. Yes I can take motorized transport but still try to push my body a bit.

I'm wrong!

It isn't blocked but it is a dirt track which today had a 2m puddle, amongst other smaller puddles, stretching accross the track....somewhat resembling a farm track without the cow shit..

Lovely hotel though! but I couldn't check a room because there were about 30 or so people checking in who had bizarelly walked in from Second road dragging their suitcases....No idea why..

Here is another thing that crossed my mind this morning...Did you know that the Areca has expanded and has it's own access to soi 15 behind "The Avenue"..???

They were building behind the pool the last time I stayed there. I did read that that building has a separate lobby. Perhaps that is on Soi 15. The soi always struck me as off the beaten path. I know from a previous comment that The Whisper Hotel is off that soi and the Mercure is there.

A motorbike taxi took me down that soi to Second Road and almost got us splatted by a baht bus.
