Where are you getting your cheese from Expats?

Recommended Posts

Popped into Fever in the Bong Koch area yesterday to see no cheese available. What's going on? Cheese being one of those special treats from my past life. I usually go for English ones... but no, no crumby Lancashire, Red Leicester or mature cheddar, fine Fettle Yorkshire, Cheshire Blue etc etc.

Is Thailand stopping us enjoying this import? Will a Welsh rarebit become even rarer?

I suspect the reason for no cheese dates back to September when the authorities started clamping down on places that would sell food products that were packaged in non-FDA approved facilities. Siamburi’s had to temporarily close for that reason. The cheese they were selling was bought in bulk and then repackaged into smaller packages for sale, thus the reason the Thai FDA got involved.

I suspect you are correct. I asked the girl in Fever, but she gave me some nonsense answer, as the adage goes, even if they don't know, they will tell you anyhow.

I don't want to go so far out as Siambury's, nor those Pratumnak Expat shops, but looking on Google Maps, Britshop looks okay for a little ride out on the bike, anybody know that place?

Otherwise, can I still get some cheese at Foodland, a short stroll from my Big-CX shop?  They were always limited to mainly Gouda and Edam, neither particularly exciting, but will have to do!

Friendship used to have some good Aussie made cheeses, including a nice extra mature cheddar. No doubt more expensive than the expat shops but a nice treat.

Appreciate the feedback but I really hate the Tai area....

I found a fair selection in Tops, Central Festival, a bit pricey though.

I spotted some cheese at 04:26, Pratumnak Soi 5. Double up with an English Breakfast next door at 'The Old Rogues Retreat', Best I've had in Pattaya

Appreciate the input, but Pratumnak is so far out of the way for me.

I saw a big display in the bigC extra on Klang, that was in February.

Yes that is convenient for me, but they are a rather pricey... I took a stroll to Foodland from there and found some. What I used to buy previously at Fever was a decent sized chunk of good cheese at very reasonable prices. Plus only a slight detour heading out of town.

Its been a while since I bought cheese in Pattaya but there is a supermarket halfway up the left had side of central Pattaya road If going towards Sukhumvit, that used to have a huge but rather expensive selection with my favourite, Stilton, at around £48 a kilo. In all honesty that was far to expensive as I only pay about £13/14 a kilo at home so bought a few other blue cheeses that were much more economical.

Not Friendship as that's on South Pattaya road and their cheese selection is abysmal unless you are a fan of Aussie Cheddar, It's not bad but it's by no means a great cheese. The place I'm thinking off is just past the the Big C that was on central Pattaya road but further up than that it has a big car park ala Friendship but has a wider selection.

Yes, it's Foodland, as Bruce said.

Oddly, that's what I meant to type but it came out as Friendship! I think I'm loosing it. 😫

Central Pattaya Rd?

Not Foodland maybe?

I buy Edam and Gouda there, but limited choice otherwise. The selection in Big-CX is much better nowadays but far from cheap. They sell some rather puny pieces!

They do free delivery "within Pattaya" so it might be worth a phone call or email to see if it includes you.

I use them here in Ubon as my preferred choice when I need a bulk delivery of lamb, sausages, cheese and other frozen stuff that catches my eye...

For me they use Inter Express for frozen stuff and Kerry for dry deliveries. There are a couple of places in Ubon City but they are not well stocked and well over an hours drive away.. I have also used Manston but Siamburis has a broader choice including the lamb..

I am very happy using them and recommending them especially for the lamb ...

Note: I like their current selection of lamb ..... 🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑

Having read the replies ,yes its called Foodland and for a small place like Pattaya it has a great selection of foreign foods, IMHO. The prices are a little high when compared to at home but if you want a taste of home , and some years I have spent 4 months in Pattaya , then a few extra baht is worth the expense.
