Is that SAS? I have used them a couple of times but lately it seemed they were not sound. I thought they were close to going bankrupt and feared flights might suddenly get cancelled with people being stranded. I used them many years ago and there was a problem with the long haul aircraft, they told me it got hit by lightening and they had to downgrade me to economy. I got a refund voucher and could get the cash in Bangkok.... airlines are usually not so compliant with refunds.. seemed like extra spending money.

Pai is very touristy, but these pics make me feel like visiting again. I have done the Mai Hong Son loop a couple of times, once many years ago using public transport, and another later in a truck. Stopped in a little tree house over a river valley in Pang Mapha. I was surprised how pleasant it was. Great coffee and breakfasts. I recall finding a bar run by a Thai lady whose Scottish husband was away working, but was selling off rather generous samples of his single malt collection for 60 baht a glass. I also recall changing money in the bank in Mae Hong Son and getting the best rate I ever saw for my sterling. Caught a bus from there and had the scariest ride ever where I thought we would be over the edge, or rolling back out of control to our demise. It broke down in the middle of nowhere and we were stranded for many hours.

It is where the Expats Club meets on Fridays. Yes the pool area has had some work, a few slides and showers to make it appeal to children, and is quite decent, although it has been hemmed in by condo buildings around. There is a coffee shop type of place and meals served around the pool. Not been in a room for a while but remember they used to be small dog friendly, although I think that was reserved for particular floors. My problem with the place is they now get many Indian customers. Sometimes a coach load arrives in the morning and it seems they have breakfast included and will pack the coffee shop.

Is the issue mostly price as I find flights of 15.0 -> 17.0 hours quite easily, and mostly landing early morning in Manchester. (That is the topic)? I find the European carriers, like BA and KLM now schedule with late Manchester arrivals, which doesn't suit me at all.

The flight Helsinki to Bangkok with Finn Air is okay BUT the flight from Manchester to/from Helsinki is on some budget carrier and for me was bad. My friend flew Oman and spoke highly of it. Personally I am an Emirates fan though. Avoid BA!

You do right to be wary. Quite a few Thais renting cars only have regular insurance, and in the event of an accident I would be worried whether it would apply. I too suggest you talk to Pool Hustler.

Interesting. That makes me wonder wrt the health of Emirates. All that investment on capacity and numbers dropping.

But you all should get out of the vehicle which is a bit of a drag. Particularly if it is hot and you are still in your travel togs. I still use Mr Toom... it is his son now as the old boy died. That is pickup and return to Pattaya, the other way I drive myself and the Mrs brings the truck back. Need to do my share destroying the environment!

My favourite is 'it will bounce back". It is a long time coming or a bit of a dead cat bounce. Sitting waiting for it to 'bounce back' has likely cost me plenty and I am running on fumes now.
