I was there this morning to first pick up my passport with a new extension to stay, and then do my 90 day report. Getting the passport back was quick, but close to an hour wait until my number came up for the 90 day report. Usually in and out in minutes, but wasn't surprised by the delay today given yesterday was a holiday and another closure coming up on the 26th. I've been several times now for the 90 day report with just the bar coded receipt. Never been asked for copies of anything, so don't bother anymore. Wish we didn't have to jump through the 90 day report hoop, but have to say sin

Finished the Washington Spies series. Overall a well done series. Thanks to whomever posted the recommendation for the series.

Just had a look at Scottrade's residency requirement and the only thing I see that you ran afoul of was the requirement for a US phone number. Easily rectified as js007 posted using Skype In or Google Voice. Suggest getting one set up and registering it with Scottrade. They would then have no reason to require you to liquidate your account. If they still insist you can not maintain an account with them, then start taking names and let them know you'll be filing a complaint with the SEC.

What second childhood, haven't finished the first. Been pretty much my philosophy to living these past six decades. Seen during those years a few close friends lose that spark for fun with the result they aged rather quickly. My parents quite often questioned my lifestyle choices and were quite vocal in their disapproval. Sad really as with my own adult children I remain mute on imposing my will on how they live their lives. Instead I take pride in how they are finding their own path in life. Another motto I've always lived by is "work is a means to afford my time off". I think that's

Good to see this exchange had some connection to the Ageing thread.

It was a no frills, hole in the wall, ST place. Think Telephone Bar, but with more room inside. IMHO, the Pattaya of old was more diversified in choices of upscale and downscale bars and clubs. What I see now is Pattaya is slowly becoming more like western cities with more glitzy bars, clubs, malls, hotels replacing the old hole in the wall places. It'll be another sad day when the Tin Cup is replaced by a McD or Burger King.

Yes, it's sad we had to give up the A-Team bar for another package tour hotel.

Stickman's site still is accepting and posting reader submissions, some of which, IMHO, have been well written and thoughtful. One such was posted a few days ago titled The Years Of Our Lives, an essay on growing old and how we choose to deal with all that entails. Most of what the author wrote resonated with my own approach to life. Thought I'd give it a mention here in case anyone's interested in a good read.

Not entirely unfair. I had two other UPS units bought at Tukcom that within a year I noticed battery acid leaking. When I opened the case I found the once sealed batteries were bulging and had cracked. Either the batteries were of poor quality or the charging electronics were shit and were overcharging the batteries.

I lost a computer and printer to a lighting strike a few years back. I had both plugged into a UPS bought from Tukcom, but as like quite a few products in Thailand, it was lacking in quality and my electronic gear paid the price. I now have everything in my home office plugged into the APC 1400 which is large enough to handle the load of everything in the office. It also has a monitor/status app that tracks how often electrical events occur. Here's an example of what the UPS has had to deal with over the last 24 weeks.

The chilli burger in Evil's post reminded me of one my favorites, Sloppy Joes. Might be another good addition to the GASC menu. Here's one reciepe I grabbed off the internet. In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, onion, and green pepper; drain off liquids. Stir in the garlic powder, mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar; mix thoroughly. Reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

I've noticed that too. Thai police are worse than useless in controlling traffic. Just make the traffic backups worse.
-
Noticed the construction backup yesterday too. Didn't venture down Klang so no idea why it should have been backed up as it was. Other days traffic was moving, albeit slowly, but still moving. Yesterday it looked like traffic was at a standstill. As for construction time. They seem to be moving along at a good clip so the construction bottleneck should soon move past the Arunothai/Klang intersection. At that point you'll have more options to bypass the construction area.

He might have to wait for for the underpass to flood... or live in Houston.

Apparently 24 min and 3 sec

In case you missed it, reported by Pattaya One News. Most interesting in the article was the report the underpass extractor fans weren't working. Another fine example of Thai workmanship at its best. Police repeat restrictions for Pattaya underpass On Tuesday August 29th, the head of Pattaya police held a press conference to highlight the restrictions to using the new underpass, which only recently opened. He said that the restrictions were in place for the safety of the people using the underpass, and that heavy fines would be made should the rules be broken. At the moment, restrict

They're actually being smart about the digging. Only doing small sections at a time to minimize the traffic disruption. Once one section is completed they back fill and cover and then move on to the next.

Thought it would be interesting to compare the old Klang intersection to the new. No doubt it looks quite a bit better. Was it worth the estimated 1 billion baht cost...

The photo record wouldn't be complete w/o a pic of the opened underpass. Taken this morning... My first photo of the construction was on 11 Jan, 2015. Since then 2 years, 7 months and 14 days have elapsed to yesterday's opening. Even with the missed opening dates, the original reports called for three years of construction. So by that measure I'd have to give them credit for finishing within that period. For those interested, here's a link to a photo album of the construction from start to finish.

Cable burying is happening on Klang. They started about a week ago, but suspended operations yesterday as I imagine the VIP motorcade wouldn't like it if they had to wait for lowly construction workers. This is a pic of the area they're currently digging up.

The long awaited underpass opening is happening today. According to the E-sign the opening is at 22:00. The previously covered sign is now uncovered. BIB making sure no one turns left on to Klang as it is now VIP parking. Small party at the underpass control booth. More BIB directing traffic at the Klang intersection. Looks like the big dig for burying the electric is suspended for the day. Klang intersection almost open for business. U-turn from southbound to northbound is open. View to the south Southbound Klang intersection is a clusterfuck though. Five lanes re

So it's elephant joke time... How do you tell if an elephant has been making love in your backyard? If all your trashcan liners are missing.

Used to enjoy having a cold one and watching the world go by from the Sutus Court bar, called Cup-Fa. Good, friendly staff, but unfortunately management for the past couple of months can't seem to figure out how to properly stock their bar. Most times they're out of my drink of choice, SangSom. Of late they have also been running out of Leo. Shame really as the seating area is a bit higher than the other bars on Soi Bhuakhao, so less road noise and a better breeze flows through the bar area.

Don't doubt there are some dodgy sellers out there, but the dodgy ones can be avoided by sticking to sellers with a high rating over a period time longer than a year. Also, if the price sounds too good to be true... Coincidentally, just replaced my Samsung S6 with a OnePlus 3T that I bought on Lazada last week. Working great unlike the S6 that was freezing up on me with increasing frequency. Looked around locally for a case, but everyplace said "no hab". Placed an order on Lazada on Monday for a case, arrived on Tuesday. As Idefix pointed out in his post, I look for sellers in Thailand, so
