Did a photo recon this afternoon of the construction progress. Looks to me like it'll be another month or two until they have this project done. Here's some topside pics. Looking north. Pretty chaotic with traffic criss crossing in front of the gas station to get on the left most lane or the lane feeding into the Hwy 7 entrance. Looking south. Shouldn't be long before the Klang intersection is open again. Bit of decoration to admire while you're stuck in traffic at the Klang intersection. For those heading north, this is why traffic is so backed up. Working on the masonar

A few topside shots. Looking north Looking south Klang intersection Free car/bike wash today A photo history of the Sukhumvit underpass construction can be found at this link.

Looked like a quiet day on the construction site, so using my trusty mtn bike did a photo recon below ground. Starting from the southbound entrance Asking his buddies which blue rock to use next... Not much progress on the wiring since my last recon a few weeks ago. Out in the sun again, looking north Southbound exit ready for a coat of asphalt Paving of the northbound entrance almost done

Think if they see a car roll up with passengers in the back and only the driver in the front the assumption is taxi. A few years ago they tried the same thing on at BKK. Driver just asked that I sit in the front seat to give the illusion of a friend driving me to the airport.

Photo recon of the underpass from this afternoon. Lights are up that will tell you if the underpass lane is open, or not. Trying to puzzle this one out. The underpass design doesn't allow for routing all traffic from a particular direction into both sides of the underpass. Guess they could use the signs to warn motorists when the underpass is flooded, but I doubt a lighted sign is going to be much good for stopping traffic from trying. Maybe movable barriers are yet to come. Southbound entrance with decorative panels installed. Touch up on a plaque. Guess it's good you'll have

Internet 90 day reporting...broken for all or just me?
forcebwithu replied to MM's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I agree. That's one of the scarier aspects of Thailand's drive to control all through a single gateway. What they'll have with a single gateway is a single point failure node for the entire Thailand Internet backbone. Almost guaranteed some Thai IT guy is going to fat finger something sooner, rather than later, and crash the entire Thai Internet. -
With apologies to monkeyman for the TF, saw on another board an announcement that Samran has signed the Inner Soul Band to play Thursday thru Sunday, 8:30 pm to 11 pm beginning on the 21st.

Just started the series. One episode in and I'm hooked. Using 123movies.is to watch the series.

I was curious about the maze at the SCC intersection a BM on another forum reported on. So had a look a closer look at the intersection this afternoon. Looks to me like the smaller paths are for pedestrians crossing Suk. These pics were taken with SCC at my back. Looks like there will be two footpaths on either side of SCC that merge into one and cross northbound Suk at the police box. Just south of the SCC intersection the U Turn is now open to both motorbikes and vehicles. That will make it a bit easier getting to darkside from the brightside. Construction barriers are also

First of the decorative panels on the underpass in place. Wonder if this is just a see how it looks test as I didn't see any materials laying around that would indicate they're going to put more of the same up. Light post decorations are going up too. Although I have to agree with another BM; this being Pattaya, a bit of chrome on the light posts and go go lady caricatures might be more appropriate. Resurfacing work continues And shinny new lights getting installed And here's how the approach to north side entrance is shaping up.

Today's update. Looking south. Looks like work on the rebuild of the Klang intersection has begun. View to the north. If you're on a motorbike, you can squeeze through the barricades and make a U turn from north bound to south bound at the SCC intersection.

Did my extension last month. Same experience as jacko. Jomtien Immigration to their credit runs a very efficient operation. That efficiency though is dependent on ex-pats coming prepared. In my case I was two numbers from being called, but cooled my heels for around 20 minutes while the two buffoons ahead of me were sent away to get copies made of their passport pages. Would have been nice if the ladies at the information counter had caught that and not issued a number, or the immigration official dealt with the next customer in line while the unprepared were sent away to make copies. I wa

Noticed they moved the barricades in north of the walkover bridge, so thought I'd get another photo update posted. Looking to the north from the walkover bridge, looks like they're working on the finishing touches. Same with the north side underpass entrance. South of the walkover construction isn't quite as far along with one gap in the underpass roof to concrete over. And a bit of cleanup needed on the south side entrance.

Server switch to be scheduled sometime soon
forcebwithu replied to MM's topic in == Announcements ==
Congratulations on an apparently seamless transition to the new server. Given all the possible problems you might have encountered on the switch, that's quite an accomplishment. -
I read somewhere the expected completion date is Feb, 2017. From the state of the current construction progress they just might finish it on time.

For all you armchair walkers, another photo update for you. South end of construction. For those traveling north, nice jog in the road. No idea what for though. North end of construction. Lot of traffic coming into Pattaya this afternoon. Siesta time, salon time for the workers. New pedestrian bridge looking pretty good. Electric is still a bit close for comfort though. Access gates are closed, so no mtn bike ride today for up close and personal shots. Zoom will have to do. Can see light at the end of the tunnel for this project.

Word of warning when getting the bank draft, make sure it's a bank draft and not a cashier's check. Heard today a few showed up at the embassy outreach with a cashier's check and were sent away to get a bank draft. No idea why it should matter.

Wish I could modify the thread title to Excellence In Thai Engineering/Thinking. Just got the following email from Kasikorn which had me laughing. -

Price is right for Brothers Karamazov on Amazon... free. No excuse for anyone with a Kindle or computer to not give it a try, including me. Edited to add: I must have caught Amazon on a generous day. Just checked and the price is now $1.99.

For those using US Embassy outreach services, just got the following email. Love the bureaucracy and the hoops we have to jump through to comply. Please be advised the U.S. embassy will no longer accept cash (U.S. Dollars and Thai Baht) at Outreach Events for American Citizen Services. This is a worldwide policy, and no exceptions can be considered. All future payments at U.S. Embassy Outreach Events must be made in the form of a BANK DRAFT ยท Purchased from Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn Bank, or Siam Commercial Bank (SCB). o You do not need an account at the bank to purchase a b

They're doing quite a bit of shoulder work on Suk topside. That work and the construction of the police box makes me think they just might make a March opening date. Here's my first pic of the start of construction from 11 Jan, 2015, so not quite two years. For those that would like a photo trip down memory lane, I've uploaded all my photos to Flickr.
