  1. Hi. Just a good thing about Pattaya City Hospital and the Thai Health System : When it's too difficult or they can't cure someone, they don't insist. After a few days here and a huge quantity of drugs, they send a friend of mine to Chulabhorn Hospital, in Bangkok, that is "the" Thai hospital specialized in Cancer... I can't imagine a better place for her to be cured right now.
  2. Search on Google for "MidTown Villa", it's the name of this "village". Looks like many are for sale (re-sale) from about 4'000'000+ B. (4.2M) Many are for rent too, (exemple: 20'000, 22'000...) so surely you can get one for less than 20'000/month. Seems a bit of a ghost-town. Never saw any security (Google Map neither). You must like stairs. No pool.
  3. Hi. Most of Lalana studios ads on the Internet announce 41 or 42 sqm, so yes this 44 may sound strange ?? It's not only about the monthly charge, but a 5 or 8% difference on the price by square-meter... If this studio "is different", the best would be to indicate the exact value shown on the Chanote, IMHO
  4. Hi. My experience at Jomtien/Pattaya for "Retirement Extension" this Wednesday May 27th: Required documents for my case (Retirement Ext. with proof of revenues) - TM.7 filled, signed, with photo - Embassy Attestation (that revenues > 65'000 baht/month) - Passport copies: - - data page (name, photo, ...) - - last Extension stamp - - initial Non-O Visa (or page with transfer on new passport) - - entry stamp + TM.6 (Departure Card) - Proof of address : Electric bill is ok - Bank Passbook (copy of first and last page) - 1'900 baht fee Nota: - The utility bill was already asked to me last year - It's the first ever time I have to show a Bank Passbook ! PS: Arrived at about 8:05am, the place nearly empty. I was out at 8:14am :)
  5. > And today now booking bus drivers. Why can't the busses use the car park The buses you show are parked on the 1st traffic line, not on the bus park. > And a ticket for you miss and you can collect your bike later from the compound She will collect it very soon, and at Soi 9 Police Office.
  6. If I understand well, you go on Pattaya Klang towards the sea and you turn left in 3rd Road towards South Pattaya, then yes there is a "Turn Left Waiting Light" board ! Edit: Confirmation on GoogleStreetView
  7. No, but many people make confusion between So is 16 & 17 Soi 16 starts at Second Rd opposite Soi Diamond Soi 17 starts at Second Rd at VC hotel. :)
  8. Yes. They are that big. A full flower can exit of it. Yes I suppose the sign means "2 baht each". I hesitated on the "2" but can't see what character else it could be. Edit: Thanks to tall guy for the sign meaning, below.
  9. I think they are seeds for some orchid flowers, and I also think that the Thai spelling on the green board is wrong... Thanks for these pics. :)
  10. - Euro Optic, opposite Soi Garden on 2nd Rd - First Optic, on 2nd Rd Soi 16 near 3rd Rd (here)
  11. Hi. I arrived at Bangkok airport 2 days ago. As usual, there were hostesses at the exit of the plane distributing free Happy SIM card I got one more, and of course no registration asked for this one ... Here is what they gave me : and this time it was in a small envelope :
  12. Hi. I don't know what is your problem with toilets? Seems to me that they are many of them in many places ?? BTW the good think with the new Bangkok Airport is that it is "a no-queue airport" ... and I can prove it : "Queue" to register to Europe: 4 people in front of me... "Queue" at Immigration to exit Thailand "Queue" at Immigration coming back Thailand. More officers than travellers
  13. A "steak dinner" ??? Food certainly must be the reason why English and French made so many wars ! I never ever eat a steak at dinner ! Steak is a lunch dish, not a dinner one... ... at least in France. PS: at least this steak cooking level is good here, probably rare level. I saw so many bad "well done" cooking in US. Like eating shoe sole
  14. Hi Jacko. Many people reported on ThaiVisa that they managed to use the website to do their report. They went through the 4-steps form and got a number and a "notification". Next step is a 7-days periods for Immigration to confirm/accept this report, but I didn't see yet anyone reporting this last confirmation. (BTW this officially started on the 1st, they have 7 (working?) days, and we are the 7th...) Notification found on another forum:
  15. And what about this discussion on this forum... http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/topic/64235-online-90-days-report-soon/
  16. Why Pattaya bars promote beer so much : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pnODdAfX2M
  17. Hi. A very interesting point in this month French Embassy's Newsletter. This concerns all European people (and people who own lands, house... in Europe ?) It's about The New EU Regulation 650/2012 on International Successions that will apply to successions opened from 17 August 2015. In short this regulation will make things easier in the general case : Only your country of residence will manage your succession, even for goods you own in other countries. The principle: application of the law of the State in which the deceased will have his/her habitual residence at the time of death, even if this is the law of a State that is not a member of the European Union. A single law will govern the whole succession. Expats in Thailand : It's Thai law that will apply on your goods or house in Europe... Of course you can modify this "by default" rule by making a will, but from my Embassy very few expats make one... until today. Articles on this subject : http://www.notaries-of-europe.eu//index.php?pageID=9836 http://www.retiringtoitaly.it/eu-regulation-6502012-cross-border-succession--effective-from-17-08-2015.html Google "EU regulation 650/2012" ...
  18. Hi MM. I saw these signs too. I think they may not be in the same category... ?? The recent city check on signs was for "immobile/fixed" signs, so on Walking Street mainly the big fixed electric signs. These ones could block a very high vehicle. (Firemen truck?) Signs on your pics are not electric and are not fixed, they are just thin suspended boards. If ever a vehicle touch them, they will not block it, they will bow/rotate. I don't say it's authorised, but I may understand what they are trying to do to continue to have low signs. The future will say what the police think about that
  19. Online 90-day reporting effective in April ? Foreign citizens staying in Thailand are able to report their address every 90 days online via the Immigration Bureau's website, effective from April, the immigration spokesman said on Thursday. http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general/509342/online-90-day-reporting-for-foreigners-from-april
  20. For those in Thailand, you can probably choose all the limits you want for you card (and account) from the bank website. At least it's the case for my Kasikorn accounts: You specified the max for daily withdrawal, for online payments, ... one more solution to reduce risks.
  21. Probably Aoen. It was the one who didn't had the 150 tax during a long time too. Now their ATM at BigC Xtra is 20k max and 180 fee and the one near HomeWorks is gone for at least 1 year already.
  22. Hi. I think most ATMs of big banks in Pattaya have a limit of 20 notes, so 20'000 baht at max. There used to be a few ones at 25 or 30 notes, but the ones I knew all have been changed to 20. You can make several successive withdrawals as long as you don't reach your card limit, but you will have to pay the ATM tax (180 baht) for each of them.
  23. There are things far more important than Immigration IMHO. Just look at Pattaya news: it's not rare to see an article, about any kind of accident, that mentions that the farang as not any ID document on it. If he his unconscious, that means that the police cannot contact anyone and that the hospital may only do basic vital care/treatment, waiting to know that he will be paid... About the plastic copy, in Pattaya most Kodak shop (or photos shop) will do them, and I suppose many will do it too Bangkok.
  24. I didn't check recently, but last year at 8am there was already a waiting queue, and if desks-work starts at 8:30, they started to give tickets at about 8:15
