You make a good point and to add to that I wonder if Pattaya is the perfect place for a holiday for disabled people? Sure, I don't mean the pot holes and the lack of pavements but I have seen the girls do all that they can in gogo clubs to make people in wheelchairs comfortable and at ease. While it is easy to criticise the girls for having an indifferent attitude compared with days past, I have seen some really happy guys taken out of their confined world.

Open Source "Office" programme.
teelack replied to teelack's topic in Technical problems or questions.
Odense! What can I tell you. When someone bends the law to make my life easier I can hardly identify the solution or the supplier of the solution. I think that you are smart enough to figure it out. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk -
Open Source "Office" programme.
teelack replied to teelack's topic in Technical problems or questions.
I am pleased that I raised the question. Besides learning something about open source a member came to my rescue and showed me one of the priveledges of being on this board. I wont name the member or the solution but I am grateful. -
Surely there is a pool on the roof? Very small and very little shade. Friend of mine moved there recently and said that the service was good and worth the money. His girlfriend whispered to me that he was delusional. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

Thanks Evil. Will do. I simply don't use these programmes enough to make the cost worth while. -
Open Source "Office" programme.
teelack replied to teelack's topic in Technical problems or questions.
Exactly but what I am asking is what Open Office is best. Kingsoft is Open Office but as I have pointed out it is becoming a pain. -
A couple of years ago I asked the question about "Office" programmes that would intergrate with MS Office but came free. I was advised that possibly the best of them was Kingsoft and it has been fine. Recently however there is a wait while it loads and advert and then another 5 second wait until you can skip the ad. Its a pain. I realise that there are a mountain of programmes out there like Libre and Apache but I wonder if anyone has a programme running that they can recommend.

I have no problems finding a missed call reminder app (MCR) for my Samsung phone on the internet. What I do have problem with is trying to sort out the claims and reviews of a MCR for one that works with second tier carriers such as Line and WhatsApp. Can anyone who has successfully installed such an app let me know. I am loath to install something and pay if it wont work as it should do. Thanks.

Some years ago I had Faststone installed but found that there was enough bells and buzzers with Picasa so I discarded it. I downloaded Faststone the other night and it is as close to Picasa as I need and has a hell of a lot more bells and whistles. If your looking for a programme I recommend that you give it a try.

I have to admit that I totally miss Picasa for ease of operation. I was able to sort all my photos into easy order and editing was simple. Exporting/Uploading was easy and now I am lost because I simply cannot find a programme that is as user friendly. I would really appreciate any help with a simple storage system. some basic editing and uploading with the ability to chance the pixel account. If anyone feels like me on this subject and knows a source where I can download a SAFE copy of Picasa I would appreciate that.

I am not a keen Soi Six person but next time I go to Pattaya I will try to spend more time and spend more money there. The ladies may be hurting and I would like to do just a little to help the cause. I quite like an early evening beer and Soi Six is a good cause.

Sometime around 1956 I read a boolk that set me off on a life time search for answers and I have read what I can on the subject. The book in question was "The scourge of the swastika" and was the first attempt to document the Holocaust in total. I recall that I didn't discuss this book much with parents or school friends as the subject matter was overwhelming. Over the years I have returned to the subject to try to understand two aspects and these are; " How did it occur?" and "How could a civilized nation be so guilty?". My latest reading has helped to clear some of the fog. THE HOLOCAUST by LAURENCE REES. This is a fast paced book and I had no problems working through over 400 pages. It starts in the early 1920's and gives a wealth of information as to the political situation that the German race found itself in after the first world war. There was untold political factions from the far right to the far left looking to capitalise on the level of unrest. Hitler had the advantage of being imprisoned for a couple of years and to some become a bit of a martyr for his beliefs. More importantly he had the time to write his Mein Kampf which was a blue print for his politics. The book details the twists and turns and it is 150 pages before we get to the war starting in Poland. There is therefore a good background into the whys and wherefores that lead up to the war but more importantly, what set Hitler apart form hundreds of other aspiring leaders of the rudderless German nation. There is no way that a book like this can avoid the horrors of the war and new, never published interviews and recently located documents lend clarity to the history. It does however not get to Auschwitz until page 355 so he spends time on all the smaller actions and political meandering that lead to the horrific killing machine. In summary I would recommend this book to anyone interested in modern history or the specific subject. For me, I understood the politics and history of the period better because this is fast paced and well written book. I did however get no nearer to understanding the individual actions and attitudes of the German nation and have chosen to believe that I never will.

First time traveller, hotel suggestions
teelack replied to starbuck1968's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Having said that there are now quite a lot of accommodation places in Soi Honey and more seem to be getting refurbished all the time. I went for a look around the 24/7 Boutique Hotel a year or two ago and was quite impressed with the quality of some of the rooms and it had a pool. I reckon that a walk down the soi and a look in the doors might be a profitable couple of hours for anyone looking for a room in that area. -

True but he may want to start his holiday in style by going next door to the Sabai soapie! -

Yes, as you say more often than not there is a baht bus taking a short cut down soi 2 so this is no problem. I did however think that the perfect walks were to Soi 6, Soi 8 and no problem getting to the PBG. One other thing in favour of Soi 2 is the Big C Centre ( who's new name eludes me) at the top of the soi. Besides all the shops, movies and supermarket, money exchanges there are so many eating options to make you dizzy and at very reasonable prices. -

Also look at the Saibai Inn. I always stayed there and much preferred it to the Saibai. You use the same pool and restaurant but it was very friendly and helpful and all the staff got to know you. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk -

Here is a thought for you. Get onto the Internet and look at Pattaya and decide the are that you think might be best for you. Do a search, be it Google of Agoda and then give us a short list to comment on. On line reviews can be a bit ropy but there is sure to be someone on the forum that has stayed at the places that you have short listed. -
You are already half way there. You found this forum and asked the question. There is so much to learn about Pattaya just by reading the various topics, taking notes and asking even more questions. There is up to date information on taxis, bars, restaurants, gogo bars etc. I did exactly this when I went to Pattaya and Phuket first time and it made life so much easier. As someone else said, don't worry if you miss something. You will be back. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

Thanks but also note that a crap home in Auckland is now in the million dollar range. It is now considered one of the most unaffordable cities in the world so we all have our problems or indeed our advantages. By the way, NZ fish is magnificent which is why I cook my own fish and chips so that isn't an issue either.

I have always understood that living on the edge of the world required some sacrifices. Having said that I recall going to the UK in the mid nineties and getting about 32 pence for my dollar. Today I would get 55/56. On that basis which economy do you think I prefer being part of? Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

Paid for my next flight yesterday. For the first time in about three years I will be flying Thai Air. This is my only direct flight but with prices $700/$800 above what I expect to pay I have avoided them. The final price was under NZ$1000

The price that you paid was your choice. I recently had the PBG cheese. burger at 140 baht and the beef burger at Bob Palmer's for 129 baht. Both of these we were substantial meals and l don't think that your Jims burger signals that prices in Pattaya are at UK levels. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

I think that you also have an on site Gentlemen's Club on site at the Max? Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
