  1. Gary the owner of the Alamo Bar on soi 8 has a decent condo. I'll see him later this week and ask if he still has it for sale. I like the sound of that later this week.
  2. Guess what hotel has a KING SIZE BED in room 101. Ya, it's my old stand by www.skytoppattaya.com It's cheap, clean good location on 2nd Road and it's only 1 block to Beach Road. AC,TV,fridge and in room safe. High speed internet café and guest friendly. I'm staying there next week.
  3. Not eligible for frequent flyer miles.
  4. You forgot black socks and shoes.
  5. No dress code, it they let a fashion disaster like myself in, your good to go. Areca Lodge is a good place to stay. Bring money! Lots of it.
  6. Check out www.bkktonite.com for up to date info on BKK. Check for my PM.
  7. I'm stunned also. Beach what beach. About two years ago, Pattaya brought on line a sewage treatment plant but there are a few pipes dumping raw waste into the bay. If you want to swim go to Jomtiem and go far down the beach as possible and away from civilization.
  8. Do you carry commercial use vehicle insurance and license and any problem smoking with the window open? Good luck with your business.
  9. Lots of good hotels available at different price points. How much do you want to spend? I'm in town from 13 October thru 30 October. PM me and we can hook up.
  10. I'll be able to answer this question in 15 days.
  11. I have a Thai bank account and as the nice lady told me no interest for farang.
  12. As the lessee, I control what happens on the property. I figure a 30 year lease should see me into the grave as I'm 58.
  13. I figure 10 rai of land with a house planted dead center will keep my neighbors far enough away. The 10 foot wall will help also.
  14. At first I thought it was the Beach Road crew taking their early morning break or maybe it was their mid morning break. Then again it could be their before lunch break.
  15. The credit card I use has trip insurance as one of the free benefits. Most airlines will work with the customer especially if your a repeat customer in allowing you to rebook within one year. Good luck on your medical treatment.
  16. I'm a pretty good neighbor, I maintain our home keep the grass cut. If I see any trash, I'll pick it up. When I designed my home theater, I like to play music loud so I spent a fair amount of design time exploring various methods of sound proofing so I wouldn't disturb my wife when she's sleeping and also the neighbors.
  17. When we make the move in two years, I plan on a initial short term lease with a detached rental house. I personally don't like condo, apartment living. Your at the mercy of Thai management and possible obnoxious neighbors living next door.
  18. Check the Meeting Section and look for the reliable car and driver topic. Lots of recommendations.
  19. Zero interest for farang in LOS. another example of the "screw the foreign devil" policy of the current government. Another example of Thai logic, cut yourself off from extra capital. Pretty women dumb SOB.
  20. FWIW, I've changed my position on using a private car & driver. When I book a trip, I use a credit card to pay for the airfare. One of the benefits with this is the free travel insurance and medical coverage. For this to kick in I have to use a registered taxi or car service like Thai limo or the service at the airport. This will cost more money but I think in this instance it's worth it. Most likely Alex and the other small services are not licensed. Personally I don't plan on taking that risk. Since I already booked Alex for my next trip, I'll use him but I plan on changing vendors.
  21. October is slow but these hotels are very popular with punters. Your not the only guy who reads the hotel reviews.
  22. I have to agree in this case asking for a discount could hurt. Next time bring a Thai with you they will get 10% for bringing you in.
  23. Owen, I had a quote from them two years ago and I may have remembered the quote wrong. Sorry if I mislead you.
  24. Owen, As a retired postal employee, I pay $100USD per month for family coverage including prescription drugs. HMO covers 100% of medical costs in LOS. BUPA insurance is cheap and has various levels of coverage. Cost is $3-500USD per annum. Civil servants take care of civil servants.
  25. Health insurance is available here. Cost around $3-500USD per annum. Age goes to 70 I think?. I would start getting every major body system checked out. It's a good idea to know what condition your condition is in before you come here. My HMO will pay for health care in LOS. I pay up front get a bill submit it and they will reimburse me. Do a google on BUPA.
